Where are the abandoned ships and huge shipwrecks on planets?

Hey guys, I want to start off by saying that I love this game and the devs, that is why I have played for over a year, I want to make it clear that I am not whining, more like asking. Does anyone remember the Horizons live streams made by the devs before Horizons came out? I remember in one particular stream that on the surface of one planet was an abandoned anaconda, half burried in the sand surrounded by valuable resources and drones, apparently a pirate cache. Does anyone remember that news letter where there was a crashed Type-9 on the surface ? Where are those now? Admittedly I have only ever run into one point of interest. However, I have not heard of anyone finding these points of interest and I was wondering if they were actually in the game?

Sincerely, CMDR Kbear

I've searched atleast 20 places and have not seen a single one of those large shipwrecks the devs boasted about in the livestreams. My only guess is they were scraped and they hoped we would forget about them by not bringing it up.

I've searched lots and lots of points of interest (Was actually farming them for escape pods), across at least a dozen planets now. I've yet to see a single proper shipwreck or abandoned ship. Plenty of SRV wrecks and extremely tiny debris piles though.

As I thought, the devs never added them, shame. I hope they are added in the future. :/

Hey, that's a good point, haven't seen a single one since Horizons released !

I understand that ships don't just fall out of the sky but (and especially around the hotspots like Sol/Achenar etc) they should be, if not regular, at least have a two digit percentage to spawn.
What would be a fun little detail would be to have the planet's gravity taken into account in the equation. Which could translate to: (Population*Gravity*Security) + considering the allegiance? = % of spawn modifier.

Of course this is extremely crude and there is a (several) reason(s) why I'm not a dev with Frontier (or any other studio for that matter), but you get the general idea. Achenar 3 should be a 40% spawner :p

*gasp* even the slavers agree! We must be doing some thing right! ;)

Large POI's on planets seem to be quite rare. My theory is that anything big enough is going to be visible from orbit or a flyover, which means it's likely to get noticed and picked apart by scavengers/pirates/hunters pretty quickly, or it has to be somewhat mobile so it can move when it gets detected. I came across something large on Coltan, in the Dahan system, some time ago. It looked like four huge hangars in a complex, but I had run out of time and couldn't explore them further, so I parked my ship in the hills overlooking the site and logged out. When I logged back in a few days later, they were gone.

It was the biggest thing I had seen so far in Horizons, so I took a screenshot. It's still the biggest thing I've seen since, and I'm kicking myself every day for not spending a few more hours that night to check it out. I had assumed it'd still be there when I came back. Guess not. But hey, maybe you can use the coordinates from the pic to go there yourself, and if you're lucky it'll be there again.

THEY EXIST! Well, I've seen one first hand. https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/3y3r0g/awesome_and_mysterious_local_news/

As I said on another thread today (here):

"Wasn't easy to find, but it's definitely there & persistent. I went back a couple of times to be sure. Persistent, though the salvage respawned each time I visited ... ... big enough to drive the buggy on and peer into the flight deck I don't want to spoil it for people, but have screenshots and exact lat/long if anyone's interested message me. Happy to share."

Hopefully they'll be added sometime soon, but I suspect that anything crashing on a populated planet would be picked clean fairly rapidly something like this:D...

I've seen at least a couple of posts from people saying they have received missions from rare POI's on planets as well. Apparently those missions can daisy-chain and lead to larger finds. This seems to be a very new thing in Horizons and I'm looking forward to finding it, but I've driven around on alot of planets so far and these sorts of interesting things seem to be extremely rare, so for anyone else looking for these kinds of experiences, you might have to test your patience.

Well that was uncalled for :D

but imperial slavery =/= slavery etc. etc. As true as it is, you've heard it before.
Note the slavery part of imperial slavery. :p

It is actually very nice to hear that not only are these abandoned ships rare, but are persistent as well! Of course, I could be a huge sucker right about now.

Reckon I'll fly back to the location again tonight and check that wreck is actually still there - it certainly was. I hope it's daylight though - was tough to find in pitch black.

They are in there, I've found a couple, they weren't worth all that much, but they were cool.

Someone posted a screenshot of a T9 wreck site this morning (no I don't remember where - probably the UA or meta alloys thread). It looked quite cool with a trail of wreckage leading up to the ship, and they said it was static - didn't disappear if you logged out etc.

So they do exist, although I haven't seen one myself. Anyone care for a cup of tea? And please take one of these gold bricks with you on the way out, I'm trying to get rid of them.

I can confirm, yes, this wreck is definitely still here. I'm looking at it right now. :)
Even knowing the exact lat/long coords it was still hard to find. Hard trying to follow lat/lngs from orbit. Wish there was a compass, or better still a way of setting a lat/lng waypoint to fly to). Also it was dark again so I couldn't actually see the ground till really close with the headlights on, but there it was in the shadows.

Could you post a screenshot please? I would love to see it. :)

The models don't exist. FDEV doesn't employ many (3d objects) assets makers. I think they have like 2 on part time, based on how much assets they put in the game.
I wonder how many marketing managers and live stream speakers do they employ. I bet a lot.
