Fuel Rats under attack?

So I had to use the Rats Tuesday night.

First off: Tight operation that they're running there. I loved it.
Second: The griefer threat has been somewhat mitigated. I was pulled into a private group made by the rat that came to help me out, not a mass PG.
Third: Once he was done giving me enough fuel to reach the next scoopable star, I was unfriended and sent on my way after giving my thanks.

They've got it handled and are an awesome group of players.

Simple. wing up with an armed escort - a rat with teeth! One can refuel, one can deal with interlopers.

I like the idea, and can't speak for the FR community as a whole, but it seemed to me that the priority is using every rat for refueling, rather than dedicating anyone to fighting. In other words, it would be more beneficial to dispatch 3 rats to refuel, because if one or two of them get shot down, at least one of them made it.

You know, I've played this game for over a year, and have never realized it was that easy to create a single player group for that purpose. Always figured there was something more to it.

Thanks for enlightening me. I'll have to learn more, since I'm sure I'll have the opportunity to use it.

No, I thought that was hilarious. But I also think creating gameplay is much different than the scenario being discussed here. Plus I know most of you guys have a heart of gold protected by varying amounts of hardened layers. ;)

Edit: This is also why the rats recommend the stranded pilot sending friend requests, rather than the other way around.

I've never seen a rat as far as I know and don't know how I'd tell one from any other player.

From what I can tell by my limited observations of their irc channel, a potential victim rat could be lured into an ambush by someone posing as a person in need of fuel. Also, the irc channel makes it very easy to know exactly where and when a rat will show up.

It's not a matter of random pirates happening upon refueling ops, it's more like targeted efforts using the rats' own systems against them. That's my assumption.

Last night on Xbox, as some of you will know, we had a few CMDRs some call 'griefers', attacking Sidewinder pilots at the starter systems.
Our advice wasn't to go solo. We teamed up - a lot of us - and headed on over.
The offending pilots got in Eagles, afraid of the rebuy. Then they got in their Corvettes and Cutters, and I'm afraid to say that some deaths occurred.

Theirs.

Eventually, outnumbered and outmatched, they called it a night.
The answer isn't solo; the answer, when someone kills an ally, is to kill them right back.

Keep open safe. Keep it yours. Good luck, gentlemen.

Glad to see someone finally realizing this...

Instead of finger pointing at players that act outside of accepted "norm," maybe take some time to protect the "norm" people abide by so much instead of just posting a few complaints that rally nothing behind it.

I think due to the nature of the Xbox you would get players up for it. Sadly on pC the older generation of gamers enjoy trading and exploring more and have been totally put off open. It would be awesome to get something like that organised. I can live in hope.

Oh and the fuelrats are off limits as targets. One day these people may run out of fuel and may have to self destruct. Or choke

Someone did a poll on the FB XB1 Elite page, and the majority of players were around 40. I'm 45 and I bought an Xbox just to play Elite: Dangerous.

We're not console players, we're Elite players ;)

Yeah but I would guess console players will be more "gamer" than many PC Elite players these days.

Judging by the pics on a well know PVE Facebook group, 45 is young!

Unfortunately just as in real life there are intellectually challenged folks out there who throw rocks at firefighters and paramedics. Lowlife.

Unfortunately, as in real life, there are folks who have a poor grasp of perspective out there who actually directly compare people who physically attack real firefighters and paramedics with people who play computer games and shoot at other people playing computer games.

;)

I don't support it but I certainly don't equate it to actually being a criminal in real life. Sometimes, games need a bad guy. It would be dull as dishwater if they didn't.

Um yeah, sorry, but Fuel Rats only deliver fuel. No matter what. Armed escorts not needed. Rats know how to evade.

We ain't fighting, nor are we warmongering.

No matter what "representatives" may say.

This game is designed to play in solo and private more than pvp unfortunately, The solution to have pvp and funtime is to create a situation that require and attract people.
Imho this is the reason why such people attack the FR or other group.
This is the fun part, create escort for the rats, organize yourself and dont run in private!!!!
Im pretty sure this is the reason mainly, and honestly there is nothing wrong in this, space is dangerous, there are good, bad and pirate and griefers...
Again, the game does not offer a lot of fun for pvpers other than the boring CG gank pvp parties....

Not The CODE

I can only think the Grinning puppy farm oop's sorry the Smiling Dog Crew (Hysterical name) might be involved or maybe Code have come up with a really great in/out of game reason for attacking the Rats - either way, gratz on getting a tail! :)

Hello

The group attacking us is not The Code, we have a great relationship with them and all of the attacks have been from a group of players unattached to any player group as far as we can tell. I just had to step in and clear The Codes name here as it would be unfair and unjust to call them out for something they have no part in. I cannot however give out the names of those attacking us as it would be against our philosophy as a group and may break Frontiers Terms of Service

Many thanks for you concern CMDR o7

Private Group player here (private as in rl friends on ts), old fart.

Regardless of how improbable this would look to me even a few weeks ago, I have to admit: this conversation of yours, FR and C, finally looks interesting enough to make me think to take my mates into Open. You're into something right with these few last comments. I like the direction both groups are going.

Good work.

There are easier ways to organize PvP funtime. the Hutton Truckers and Code recently held a big pvp battle against (with) each other. PvP player groups do this all the time. Trying to make pvp happen with a strictly non-pvp group isn't going to happen.

This. We deliver fuel to commanders in need. We don't fight and I don't want to see a "witch hunt" or any "naming and shaming". We will keep calm and carry on in our own way and any methods we employ are not for outsiders to debate

Cannot tell if you are trolling or a prime example of everything that is wrong with this game.

I think you are angry because not everyone wants to play with you and be your victim. Because others would like to enjoy multiplayer as they see fit. Seriously, I think you have entitlement issues.

I used to let fuel rats go when pirating, as after all they usually don't have much cargo except limpets.
However I have come to the realization that fuel rats are taking this game in the wrong direction. The game is already easy enough, with way too many mechanics in place to let people get away with stupidity, lack of preparedness and utter failure at resource management.
Unfortunately, the rats are offering them yet another way out of trouble and to make things worse, they're offering it for free, killing all prospects of emerging content in the form of a competing service. This is in my mind going against the very nature of what this game should be about.
Now I don't have any personal grudge with the rats, rather their clients, so as much as possible I'll avoid just blowing you guys up, but I'll do all I can to get your rescue to fail.*

Nothing will of course stop the asocial types from running to a private groups instead of putting their money where their mouth is and hiring an escort.

*certainly I'm not above forgetting all my principles if a dozen tons of gold are involved.
