are the barnacles/thargoid warships sellable/destroyable/scannable?

The *belief* is that the Barnacles are sites which possibly yield Meta-Alloys since they're linked in the description of said commodity.

So, no - the Barnacles aren't, but they might give us something that is.

Something about what MB said toward the end of the last thread suggests that the Meta-Alloys might actually be a sideshow to the Barnacles' main event, though ;)

Does anyone have any idea how large these Barnacles are? I'm guessing we are assuming two things; 1) They are quite large. 2) They have lights.

I recently went searching for the crashed Anaconda in Orrere, and despite having the co-ordinates of 43, -173 this was still not enough to locate the wreck (although it was night time). That said in day time the Anaconda can be seen from quite a distance.

If the only way to find these is by eyeball, it could well take a long time. The Anaconda is crashed in a sort of half valley / crater. Not sure if that helps with the Barnacles, after all we don't know if they are buildings or ships yet do we?
OMG ! OBSIDIAN ! IS THAT REALLY YOU ?! OH WOW ! love your videos man ! keep up the awesome work !
yes we can confirm that they are about 2 or 3 meters high according the comparison between the srv and the barnacles in the trailer , also that they should emit green light
and yes you are absoloutly right i actually propesed this theory after an experiment and i can now confirm that the barnacles should be spotted 2 km above because of the game mechanics however a light from any POI can be detected from even 9 km if the settings are at ultra ;)
hope this information helps you :)

lol, poor Npc test subjects :)

Vee managed to "convince" a Keelback, ezery ozer subject were... weaker... But zee experiment could be considered a success, zee means justify zee ends az vey say !

Electra 3- 1.16g

Electra 1 - 1.39
Electra 2 - 1.35

Electra 3 is blooming foggy!

Those sound exactly like what we're looking for (wheel thruster wise). And the fogginess only increases my interest !

Thinking I may target my first searches in 'dark' areas.... under the assumption 1> they 'glow' and would be more readily visible, and 2> they won't show up as POI's... though I'll visually check POI's as a just in case. I'll also likely go by the >1g assumption due to the thruster positioning. Gears up.

I think it would be useful to casual readers (like me) if someone that is actively participating in this thread could post an update every 4 or 5 pages. That way, you don't have to read some 600+ pages to see where the research project is. I've read the opening post of this new thread but now I'm finding posts where people are talking about "barnacles". So, I went back to see where barnacles were first mentioned but after some 20 pages from the 4th thread, I still have no clue.

Just a thought. I just don't have the time to read every single post in those threads but I'm interested to see where that project is going. If I missed some kind of update that is readily available, I apologize, didn't see anything mentioned in the opening post.

How in the eff are we almost at 20 pages already??

I was trying to reply to stuff in thread 4 but then the buttons disappeared. I haven't caught up with the end of the last thread and the beginning of this one but I gotta get some stuff off my chest:

Anyway, I've seen some complaints about MB having to come into the thread to point us in the right direction and how he shouldn't have had to do that if there were clues in game. Then I read a bunch of posts about looking for stuff in Maia and whatnot because it's in the Pleiades.

Guys... guys...

They literally put a sphere in the game centered around Merope with UAs that always point to Merope and we're looking in Maia?? They couldn't have made a more obvious signpost that what we're looking for is in Merope unless they actually made a giant flashing arrow in the galaxy map pointing to Merope that said "Look for cool stuff here!". We overthinking it... again! Let's get together and search every searchable thing in Merope. If something's not in Merope then the people I put on blast above are actually right and the clues were . But I don't think we've put enough of a concerted effort into searching there to declare that yet.

The requiement of a high G world would directly support the metal planet idea. Metal planets have more mass than rocky or icy (in that order) so they will be more likely to be high G worlds.

Also for Obisian ant.... if the trailer is indeed features a snippet of a large barnacle (see image posted earlier) I'd guess that it is a pretty large structure. Certainly looks like it will be bigger than an SRV if you don't consider all the spires and additional bits. This is assuming of course that what is shown in the trailer is actually the Barnacles we're looking for which they may well not be it.

I've trying to setup a good fly configuration to cover bigger areas. I've noted flying above 4km, POIs like mine extractors, 2 buildings, etc, are visible only if you spot directly to ground, then i fly inverted, 75% thrust and 3 ~3.5 km above normal ground. In low G that is easy.

When Rizal is back from his trip he has said he will be updating the 2nd post in the thread with all relevant information, so it will be there soon(tm)

I think it would be very wise for us to not assume that the trailer scene is depicting Barnacles.... we don't know that, and we don't know what that is. For all we know that's something totally different. Don't train your eye for green light only that will cause us to leave plenty of stones unturned. Remember when asked David Braben responded that there is stuff out there... we doin't know what that stuff is, how much of it, and how many different types of it.

Something a few dozen of my ingame friends have been doing, so far theyve had as much luck as the people searching the 7 sisters nebula that micheal brookes referred to. Obvsioualy this is a massively multiplayer Grind. Thousands of players doing 40-50 POIs each and no one has found anything, thats gotta be a 1 in million exceedingly rare spawn, once hte fixed POIs are known then they can be farmed.

That and ive sold another 10 UAs to the maia outpost today, so that should help move the UA mystery along as well, im debating if the station should be crashed, but the teams are working overtime, so perhaps we can also sell increasing amounts of unknwon artifacts and see if a station malfunction moves the meta alloy thing along

Still no luck, but another observation from the trailer:
Before the important shot, I spotted an crashed Anaconda behind the crashed T9...

Yes, I noticed that too. I think this was shot on the 'potato' moon that FD did loads of the promo stuff from. There's a vid showing the ship graveyard, and I think this scene was shot there.

Here Cmdr Deltasnake, ready to contribute with data to spreadsheet.
Done. :)

I've done some testing after a CMDR in the previous thread tried to figur out the type of planet in the trailer usin the SRVs thrusters.
So at 1g thrusters are off.
< 1g thrusters point up.
> 1g thrusters point down.
Good method for working out possible gravity worlds. Let's not completely ignore the lower g worlds though, eh?

+1 G

TL =Tidaly locked

Atlas : none

Electra:

1 - no data
2 - 1.35 TL
3 - 1.16 TL

Maia

A 7 - 1.96 TL

these are the ones that i know ... if someone can place it on the sheet
Noted, thank you.

Slow down people! This thread started today and we're already at 300 posts!

This has become a verrry popular topic, especially with micheal brookes sending it into overdrive. What better way to turn a 1 in one million needle in a haystack grindfest into a public event then to encourage more, the only reward at the moment is youre name in the news ( which is very good anyway)

If any new peeps are coming out to maia, drop off 135-150LY out grab a unknown artifact and come sell it on the black market in maia, that research needs to be continued to
