How to make Slave smuggling more immersive.

So a couple of friends and I were talking about smuggling and how to improve it, and we came up with a few ideas i thought i'd run past the people here.

1. First off we all know how sometimes you'll get overheated and the cargo hatch will start pumping the slaves out. But how about a warning first? Our idea was adding a few extra sounds like banging on the hull, maybe even yelling and screaming to indicate what they're experiencing back there. It might be kinda morbid, but smuggling shouldn't be happy and cheerful anyways, especially when dealing with slaves.
EDIT: We have established that the slaves are in cryostasis so this suggestion wouldn't make much sense. However i'm looking for something that would indicate just what a horrible practice this is, since right now there's no real difference in the punishment if you're caught smuggling narcotics or humans, except a much bigger payout. If something was added to make it more risky the worse your cargo was, it might help with the whole Robigo industry, and make it feel like you're doing more than just moving illegal cargo from A to B.

2. Another one had to do with pirate outposts. Right now those places seem to be the safest places to smuggle to, but how about adding some extra kind of risk? Say they see your hull is full of cargo, so they decline your offer but tell you you'll be fired upon by the station if you don't turn them over for free.

3. The last one is regarding the security forces, and the constant "follow me" dudes that stalk you all over the place. Now in real life there's corruption in almost every security force in the world, so in the future it would seem strange that so many systems and people are suddenly all straight arrows. I'd never wanna go with any of the "follow me" dudes since the offers they make are just downright silly (40k for my 4 mill mission that i'm close to dropping off? I'll pass). But if you were intercepted by a security force and they told you to either give them a bribe or they'd scan/shoot you, i would most certainly consider it.

Everything is in cargo pods so you wouldn't get any screaming or banging on the hull. They are not roaming around your cargo hold.

They are still named "Cargo pods" though, and since i've found other pods drifting around in space named "CryoPods" i assumed the ones we're using didn't have them cooled down.

I like the idea of screaming.
Obviously you shouldn't really be able to hear that but nonetheless cool.

Perhaps some sort of lifesigns indicator...

They have a limited lifespan once they are dropped. You can see it decrease when you target them.

some great ideas! btw., i would love to have abolition-fighters spawning when you transport slaves, at least if you are flying through civilized space :)

you'll be fired upon by the station if you don't turn them over for free.

yes, please. or at least a wing of pirates camping anarchy stations once in a while.

either give them a bribe or they'd scan/shoot you, i would most certainly consider it.

bribing was possible in elite2 ff., so i'm sure we are getting there at some point.

I'll tell you what, that'd definitely put a damper on the cmdrs who use the excuse "they're not real people." well, some of them anyway.

I mean, if they can create such a traumatic experience like suffocating when you run out of power, doing something like that for "live cargo" wouldn't be too hard.

They are slaves, not really free to run around and scream on your ship. I'm pretty sure they are in stasis or something like that.

And slaves who scream all the time and annoy there owners do not live healthy or long. Slavers aren't exactly the nice sort of people, the horrible truth is: Slaves who live longer try to behave and not get attention. Its all really messed up stuff.

I think that slaves would try to keep their spirits up..so what about cheery singing, say, 'Kumbaya my Lord..' coming from the cargo hold?

I like this idea, pretty cool.

I would really like to see a bribe option for when you are scanned. It would have a very low chance of success and cost the same as the fine, but it would allow you to still complete a no-scan mission after being scanned. I feel that negotiation with authorities when caught is a big part of intergalactic smuggling and should be a part of this game!

Great answers from everyone in this thread so far, i appreciate you taking the time :) If you have any suggestions on how these things could be implemented or if you think they might work better if changed somehow, i'd also love to hear it.

I believe we should have a tetris-style minigame to stack them into our hull.
I lolled. Maybe not that great for immersion, but i can't say i wouldn't enjoy it nonetheless :p

Why not add to the horror you are proposing. Have body parts and blood smear all over your canopy as the pods expire and you see them silently scream in the vacuum of space.

A nice relaxing way to spend an hour after work. Maybe we can get someone beating a puppy.

Well that's a bit of an overreaction.

My point of the first suggestion i made was to make slave smuggling feel terrible, since it's a terrible business. Right now there's really no difference between smuggling narcotics or slaves, but my friends and I all agreed it didn't feel like the cruel practice it really is.
Like GeoFalke mentioned, it's already a pretty terrifying experience when you suffocate, so i don't feel something along the lines of what i suggested would be that much worse. If you disagree that's fine of course, i actually welcome any ideas on how else something like this could be implemented as you might see in my previous post. However if we could keep it somewhat civil and constructive, without bringing bringing in beatings of puppies or the like, i'd appreciate it.

I imagine they would be in stasis during transportation.

Or perhaps they are made to wear VR headsets that convince them they are living a free life, working and paying off the mortgage etc.

Now THAT's cruel!

But yeah, giving that they seem to be in cryostasis i guess banging on the hull and screaming wouldn't make sense. I still think there could be something added that better displays the cruel business one is in, when smuggling people bound for slavery.

You're the one who started with screaming people banging on the bulkheads. You said its morbid. Mine are no more over the top then that. It's a fantasy game in space . I never realized i should be having a moral dilemma every time i look at missions.
I guess humans are ok with implied suffering, i guess you don't have to see the puppies being hit, just their squeals in the cargo hold. Along with the slaves banging on the bulkheads.

Terrifying when you suffocate? Your damn right it is, I hope you never experience it.It sucks.
I'd appreciate it if you don't induce ptsd in other players.

But explain to me then how you're seemingly ok with the suffocating effect this game has, but consider my suggestion to be too much? And also, would something way less drastic be ok then? What i'm looking for is to make smuggling and slavery feel like you're doing something bad. Right now it's clearly the best way to make money, and i have friends who'd never even consider pirating since they think it's too cruel, but smuggling slaves is completely ok to them and i guess alot of others, despite (in my mind) being just as bad if not worse. If there was something that would indicate just how evil this job is, people might think twice about doing it, and instead focus on legal and less evil jobs.
