UAs, Barnacles & More Thread 5 - The Canonn

After spending the last 2 days in the California Nebula I can say that it apparently is a rather cold place. Most landable planets that I have found in a quite large number of systems are iceballs. Only few are high metal worlds. I have landed and cruised several planets, both ice and metal, and found nothing but my first mining thingy, guarded by defense turrets. Having made acquaintance with my first Goliath recently I figured I'd call in air support right-away and proceeded to take them out with the Cobra.

If nothing else this trip has given me new energy to head back to the Pleiades to rejoin in the search over there. And gold, 19 tons of it, which I now have to drag back to Obsidian Orbital...

That video featuring creepy noises on Merope 3C has made me think something;

What if the wave scanner DOES pick up the barnacles, and from a large distance, but we ONLY have audio to go on? Did the CMDR who recorded that sound follow it around to see if it got louder/changed at all?

Call me a pessimist but it's quite easy to record footage and then overlay a fitting, creepy noise ;)

I picked it up on Merope 3C and tried to follow it and yes, it did appear to be directional, but if it was pointing at something it must've been bloody miles away - I got through most of a fuel tank without finding anything.

At the co-ordinates.
There is a Stinger drone flying several hundred metres up for some reason.

Edit: A Sentry as well.

MIght as well head over I'm in the area, you'll p;robably be done with it by the time I arrive.

was a mining outpost, only thing i have noticed is that i get strange reading on the scanner in the area, you srat getting close and the it moved (same readings if it were a ship)

and the wierdest bug yet "you have landed successfully" not satying my piloting skills are awesome but i was 5km above the surface... still scanning all deep craters in the area

One thing I have not really seen discussed is that in the trailer, the SRV driving through the barnacles does not seem to be in any danger; it's not firing at them, and they are not firing back. Almost all man-made objects found at POIs are guarded and the game play almost always involves first destroying defenses before you can explore (find data, cargo or materials). The first CMDR who encounters a POI should not simply try to blow it up to find out what's inside, especially if it does not fire at you first.

I just had one of those at 8km. No controls work at all, and thinks I am am at 0m (although I can clearly see a Tea Factory and SRV light 8km directly below me). Only option was to load 1.5 and recover to orbit.

CMDR TFW Primus and I spend probably the last 45 minutes here exploring, nothing but some POIs, gold and tea

I did notice some of the weird things that others have mentioned though. There was some kind of drone really high up. There was a canister POI with no drones. Hopefully someone stumbles upon something interesting.

That's a bit weird.

I had that samebug about 30 mins ago on Merope 3c.

Was quite close to the ground but no landing gear deployed, suddenly "Landing successful". Eh? Double checked genuinely no gear deployed yet somehow I'd landed, had to thrust up to relaunch like a normal landing would.

Never seen that before.
