Oculus SDK 0.8 + Horizons 64bit + Win 7 64bit + SteamVR = Formula for success finally!

I have followed all the steps and was able to get Elite to work with 0.8 and steam VR but no matter what I set my resolution and refresh rate to frame rate is locked at 10 FPS.
I have also tried all the different beta versions of Steam VR and tried different video card drivers for my GTX 980
Runs fine with 0.5 and 0.6 in Extended mode.
Anyone else also have this issue and able to fix it?

Has anyone found a fix for the fact that the rift view is locked to your primary monitor refresh rate?

The most I can overclock it is from 60 to 61, no reducation of res allows anything higher.

It being locked at 60 makes it have a nasty double image when you move your head.

I run a triple screen (surround) setup at 60hz, and Elite runs fine in the rift with the mirror display on the center monitor. I am using 0.8SDK and version 359.06 nVidia drivers and I don't seem to have a dependency on 75hz refresh rate for the monitor(s).

Not sure if that info helps anyone.

Ok I need help, I've only just got a DK2 from a friend so I'm a noob with VR, but I just can't get Elite to work with the DK2.
I appreciate this guide is for NVidia but I figured all that is different is the GPU driver setup.

I'm using ...

Win 10 Home 64Bit
DK2 on Runtime 0.8
AMD 7970 on Catalyst (version 15.11.1 Beta) as per Oculus site recommendation (This is only temporary as my GTX980Ti is RMA'd ... grrrrr)
VorpX installed (version 0.9.1.0 Beta)
Steam VR installed (version 1451350295)

My monitor is 3440x1440 60Hz max, however ... due to the 7970 the monitor is connected via the DVI so that has a max refresh of 30Hz, while the DK2 is connected via the HDMI which is @ 60Hz

I can use the Rift using the 0.8 runtime "Show Demo Scene" and have successfully calibrated it in SteamVR (grey room with circular grid).

I can get Fallout 4 running on the Rift using vorpx and I was able to see Elite on the Rift using vorpx but it was only a 2D screen, there was no head tracking, so I've disabled that.

I've tried using the switch runtime method (0.5, 0.6, 0.7) but I always get a "Service not available" in the Oculus config tool, I suspect that is a Win 10 thing.

I've followed the steps in this guide and I just don't see any mirror screen pop-up, or don't see anything in the Rift.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

So, I have this working sort of....

Direct mode ok, Steam VR ok, had to change my res to 1024 * 768 on the monitor in windows to get 75 hz and finally disabled SLI and running on one card.

In game it is the smoothest I have even seen it.

However, a significant issue is that I cannot recentre my Rift - F12 does a screenshot and the joystick button I have assigned (and reassigned a few times) has no effect. Any ideas?

Thanks
Nosh

Unbind or rebind the f12 screenshot key in Steam overlay.

Perhaps you want to make sure you've gone through my "Critical Steps" post a few above yours.

You might start with 1c to see where you are at.

mine runs lovely with a solid 75fps in win10 0.8 even in the stations but as soon as i land on a planet its unplayable struggling to get 25fps cant understand it

I have the basic ED version and thanks to Thorvald's instructions in this thread my SDK2 works ... well almost perfectly: the one spoiler is that it's no longer immersive. Like telc mentions above Elite is viewable in the HMD and 3d but only in what could be considered a window in front of me, it's not a proper immersive HMD view. For example I cannot see anything on the side (from the corner of my eye) nor can I see anything when I turn my head ~360 degrees (this used to work in previous runtime versions). Is this how SteamVR is supposed to view it or does any of you have a remedy for this? Any advice is greatly appreciated!!!

NO please reread my comment in detail. SteamVR works VERY well when its aligned and running right, I have many hours of immersive ED now in .8 SteamVR Win7.

Please try the alignment check, redo the SteamVR config etc. I did PREVIOUSLY have your exact problem but it corrected when I sorted all this out.

Go through the steps I listed again and I think you'll be rewarded.

Nothing on the steps gets rid of the primary screen being locked to its refresh rate though.

My primary screen cannot be over clocked past 61, which the HMD will then match, but past that the screen goes black with a hardware error message and reducing resolution does not allow any refresh rates higher.

It creates a double image when you move your head that makes any movement have a second image about 20 degrees off where you are looking to and it slowly matches to each other when you stop moving.

It is almost as if the movement prediction is spazzing out, but I see no settings to adjust that anywhere

You can try to set it to fullscreen in game graphics settings
EDIT: also try to start the game through Virtual Desktop. Run VD, turn off monitor and start the game

Did you try 1024 x 768? That is the only resolution most everyday monitors will run at 75HZ otherwise you probably need a different monitor. I have 3 pretty cheap 27 inch monitors one a ViewSonic another is an Acer and both of those will run that one resolution at 75.

Mine runs exactly like OP is describing where when I go in game Graphics it is at 0 HZ, I set it to 1024 x 768 and 75.3 HZ locks in regardless of my monitor being at 1920 x 1080. Select HMD Headphones in the 3D setting and it runs consistently at 75. I use an I7 4790K CPU overclocked to 48000 MHZ, a Ge Force 980 I overclock to boost at 1400MHZ, 16 G of Ram on an Asus V97 Pro MB

Malic, i can honestly say that i run a pretty old oled screen that cant do 75 at all. But it doesent matetr, with the steamVR overlay and direct you can keep your screen at 60hz. The trick is to change the ingame resolution, which only affect the second game window that pops up on your screen. Set that to 1024x768x75hz and full screen. And your Rift will smooth as silk.

My primary screen is TV based, not computer monitor based, it cannot run any faster then 61 Hz without it turning itself off with a hardware error message as "signal cannot be decoded" message

The refresh rate no matter what res it is set to shows 59.9, 60.0, and 60.02 for all resolutions.

Mine is the same however when using the new Performance Hud and MSI Afterburner, I still get 75 fps locked when using the rift. Even though my desktop is either at 30hz or 60hz (for some dumb reason sometimes when I run at 4k it defaults to 30hz). So on my particular setup the desktop window and desktop settings are completely independent of the Dk2.

So those settings in the graphics upper portion don't matter now. The only confusion in this is that some people are reporting "un-solvable" lag/judder unless they make their desktop window full screen and a 75hz setting. Weird.

The only place (so far) that I get re-producible judder is in stations. Though I have found that there are instances where stations are perfect at 75fps but it only lasts for a short while before it "bungs up" again and starts juddering unless I drop the in game res to low setting default.

Yes, using the performance HUD I am at 75 but if I alt-tab out of the client window instantly to the 60 my monitor is running. Alt - tab back to the client and window and bam back to 75. I have a 1024 x 768 75 HZ set in the NVidea control panel that is always an option in game in graphics so I grab that but my actual monitor is set to 1980 x 1020 60 HZ.

Thanks Raptoid, I'll give that a try just for the hell of it tonight and see if it makes a difference for me.

Cheers!
Tim

Hmm, didn't work for me. Even with a custom Nvidia Resolution setup for 1920x1080 75hz it doesn't show up as an option in the graphics options menu, still only goes to 60hz.

Wolfox, what is the purpose of using VorpX? Just curious. Isn't that for games that don't natively support VR or are you using it to be able to record?
