Is this a rip off? Or is this Frontier first encounters all over again?

Sometimes I wonder what would have happened if FD had set the estimated release date at March 2015, instead of March 2014 in the KS.

In this 'I want it now' age, which we see quite often in these very forums, would enough people have decided not to fund it because they felt that 2 years was too long to wait for a KS game. The effect would have been adverse, especially considering it would have had a release date after SC's published KS release date.

Had ED attracted 20% fewer bakers, the project would have failed.

It seems that the retail version of the game is planned for "towards the end of the year". Gamma has to last at least three months, no ?

and I stand by my Christmas 2014 estimate for release.

The Kickstarter "estimated delivery dates" ? haha.. I knew from the beginning that these dates are impossible to meet.

So there was a little bit of fudging of some of the dates so that we could all get the Elite we have always wanted. I forgive him. This March for release was never realistic in my eyes, but as long as I get a good game at the end of it all that all that matters to me.

..

Instant gratification is not fast enough....

...speaking of which, off to play some alpha 3.0

I don't remember hearing that it has to take 3 months. I may have missed that though. I thought all phases will take as long as they have to. Considering where we are now and the state of the game, how long it's taken to get to where we are now and Gamma is basically a full release to just backers then I'd be careful about reassuring people that Gamma will be less than 6 months away. It could be much more than 6 months.

I thought estimates were just estimates any way? we shouldn't expect FD to meet them. 2014 release is an estimate as far as I'm aware.

I think a 2014 release of retail is looking very unlikely, and we now know we can't rely on FD estimates of when anything will happen. They were on-target with initial Alpha, but since then it has become a long, slow, drawn-out slog. Which is OK if the quality is there, but Blizzard said the same about Diablo3!

DB did say that Gamma would be an extended phase. But Gamma release was originally slated for around now, yet it's barely halfway through Alpha

Also, right now I think trade shows are slowing things down. As a developer, the last thing you want at a trade show is for something to break, so they would be diverting effort into making those happen right rather than pressing ahead with the final product.

Possibly, but those who actually may know are not saying.

The next date the non-insiders have is that the upgrade to alpha orders will cease on 25 April. So after that there will probably be a bit more alpha, then a series of betas.

The official word is that "Beta will happen when alpha is done", so to follow that logic to it's natural conclusion... ;)

However, Elite celebrates its 30 year anniversary in September of this year, as David Braben is well aware of, so make of that what you will.

It was due in March but I think the current plan is May. It May come out.

Seriously ? I know you are miffed the game is a little behind schedule but there is nothing to show there is even the remotest chance of it not coming out. I would wager you everything I own that it WILL come out at some point in the next 12 months........(though I would want a none biased middle man to hold the funds)

I'd rather have a game that worked and had as much polish as possible on release than a bug ridden midden. Some games (not mentioning them) have not been entirely playable until six months after release. Until then, let's continue to iron out the bugs and help make this better for all.

Shok.
