Hardware & Technical Controller method

Any idea's on what control methods will be used ingame?

I see from the vids, the dev crew were all using console controllers. I really can't play with these things. I'm a mouse and keyboard person.

I could get away with joysticks, but that would then mean I need to go and buy one (or two)

will the FFE method of mouse/keyboard be a significant feature?

If I'm going to have to use one of those silly console controllers, I might as well pull my pledge, as I'll never get used to it, I've tried.

Thats not meant as a threat, its just as much as I want to see the game released, why would anyone pay £100 for something they know they're never going to be able to use/play.

It's very likely the game will have options Bikky, be it mouse & keyboard, Joystick or controller. Its a pretty standard practice these days for simulation games, be they aircraft or space sims to have a whole range of options. :)

Agree with Geraldine .. I used to be a pure KB man (Elite days) then moved to mouse/kb for things like helicopters in BF2/3 - bit of a cabbage with joysticks so a variety of control methods is normal and expected.

Agreed Geraldine, one of the (quite a lot of) things I didn't like about Freelancer was the mouse-only control. I've been dusting off my old Saitek Cyborg in readiness....:)

No1 son and I have this "discussion" on a regular basis. I'm a K/b & Mouse player and him being a Xbox player is obviously a Controller.

I'm right of course :D

Of course you are .. very similar to the "discussions" I have with my wife .. she's a Wii player (so controller) and I'm KB/Mouse and we always debated as to who was the better games player but couldn't a game that supported both ... I think that wait is almost over now :D

I used to have a joystick, but unless I was playing Flight Sims, it'd just gather dust. Keyboard and Mouse is obviously the best combo for First Person Shooters, but for platformers, third person shooters and modern flight games, I much prefer a control pad. (The g/f thinks this is sacrilege and will use a keyboard and mouse till it kills her. :p)

Hopefully E:D will support most input options and allow full configuring of controls for those awkward types who want to use trackpads and banjos as input devices. :p

Listen to the G/F she is wise in the way of control methods. (Most are to be honest :D )

I am going to get one of those Xbox joypad and try it with that, see how it works.
If I don't like it I will go back to the mouse.

Judging by the combat, the ability to match speed with an enemy looks to be crucial and only one control method can reliably do that: a joystick with an analogue throttle control.

Yeah, I will be getting a HOTAS set up for launch. The Thrustmaster Warthog is very appealing but the Mrs will not agree. I wonder if the Thrustmaster MFDs will be supported?

yeah, I was thinking along the lines of JS for flight. I am good with JS, better with mouse and KB, but as you say, analogue throttle control will be essential for combat..

Joystick or mouse..

I would use my joystick most probably just because my interest in flight sims. Mouse seemed to work allright in latest X-Series games though so might be an option too. I'm sure I'll learn no matter what :)

Though sometimes I dream that these kind of games would support 3D mouse too.. That would be sweet!

I would love to play this with a force-feedback joystick or yoke. I find that much more comfortable for long periods of time than a the more modern game controllers.

I plan to use this as a controller :p

Actually you know what? Someone should Kickstart a controller that has a ZX spectrum case, that would be a talking point ;-)

ARGH! a Big picture Someone shrink it please!

This has been in another topic already but when it comes to controllers I do prefer game console controllers over JS's I don't mind K/M.

If controllers are used I would love to have a PS3 controller setup written in so that I just need to connect my PS3 controller without having to set up a 3rd party program to control it then input all the controls and then set up force feedback and adjust the sensitivity of it and test it over and over just to get it right.

It really irks me that 360 controllers are the only ones written into games, think Microsoft could be brought up against the monopolies commission again for this?

I just hope that the classic BBC Control Keys (S X < > and A to fire) can be used. For me it wouldn't be Elite without them! :D

Fully user configurable controls.

from original BBC keyboard only controls to modern day console pad control (and everthing in between: mouse keyboard/Joystick etc).

Choice is everything.
