But, I'm in the lucky position of being in a non-official mod capacity and as such I get to see only a very a little of what goes on under the bonnet (Hood for our US Cousins) I can promise you that they are in no way shape or form a mercenary corporate entity just out for every penny they can screw out of their customer base.

Neither is EA or Activision. Wealth moves the world and profit rules it and Frontier should never be ashamed to have joined their club of noble business practices. I hope Frontier will grow exponentially and one day become a bulging titan of a game company.

Typical of this forum, "Its a business they have to make money" somehow excuses peoples complaints?!!? What a joke. This game is no different than many other games, but many of those other games do a much better job, with MUCH less money

I weep buckets of tears that the small company Frontier tried to maximise their own profits over those of the behemoth Steam.

Well OP, i'm glad they released when they did. Thanks to that i've had over a year for fun and enjoyment, bugs and all.

Pricing, pfft, not an issue. I'm not rich, but 60 Euro for beta didn't break the bank. Neither did buying the lifetime pass in 2015.

Steam - that was just one massive wave of entitlement. FD said from the start they would consider adding to Steam but obviously were not ready at the time, but once the demands started it snowballed putting pressure on FD to move forward and get it done. The result I feel was it possibly pushed FD into a weak bargaining position with Steam, instead of being able to discuss things with Steam on their own terms. Naturally i have nothing to base this on, just a feeling. If FD could have waited a few months as well, they might then have known that Horizons was going to have to be 64 bit, not possible on the Mac, and therefore known in advance that they wouldn't be able to add Horizons as a DLC to the Base Game, and therefore taken that into consideration when addding the game to Steam.

Well buying the game for $100 in the early days and not getting a copy of horizons is not cool.
The game is empty and im not chalking money up for a "DLC early access" what ever the hell that is.
Half the people in here saying they have to make money is true, but it goes both ways.
What this is is bad business selling dlc as early access besides that, the base game being bland and empty, most people didnt even know what the "season" thing even meant(justification for full-priced EARLY ACCESS DLC) horrible communication from the company and to add to that if some of those people came here and complained or asked about it they simply get told "they have to make money"
good riddance to this game and forum.

FD hate you and DB is currently chuckling his evil chuckle while stroking his white cat, sat on his evil revolving chair on top of a mountain of your money.

You forgot when they scratched the offline SP and a huge wave of hate started with tons of backers demanding refunds, which they reluctantly investigated.

Not that I care. Who needs offline SP modes anyway?

Have paid 65 ukp total for the Dangerous and Horizons releases. Have logged 450 hours of game time. Seems like value for money to me. The Elite universe is simply a nice place to just be. Can't say I ever got into powerplay, which seemed to take a lot of development so is one mis-step for me but otherwise, totally happy.

Regarding price itself, I think that is not the issue. The issue is how it is explained to the customers. Instead what FD did with Horizons expansion I would do things differently:

(looking at current prices)

1) Base game contains only Elite: Dangerous is 26,99€
2) New Early access season Horizons including Elite: Dangerous base game 53,99€
3) New early access season Horizons only 43,19€ (for those who own base game Elite Dangerous)

(I assume it is 20% discount or whatever percentage is)

Even though 2 and 3 would be technically same thing, it is much easier for customer to understand instead of discounts or non discounts or what is what. And I think it is easy to present it as such to the customers. I hope next season will be better explained. Then again I raise question about season 3. How it will be treated? Will Season 3 53,99€ include both Season 1 and 2 or just 1? Or just 2? Or none? Or it will be if you own Season 1 you will get discount 10% or if both seasons another 10%?

Best buy was for those who purchased Premium beta or Standard beta + Lifetime expansion pass ( * raises hand * ), but for new players, they need to be well informed and not to feel tricked nor manipulated. I know that word "discount" sounds so nice but as we saw, it created so much confusion. It fell on us players to explain to new potential players what is what.

As for the lack of content, that is entirely another thing. I used to be role play like and not to trade slaves or narcotics but here I am in Robigo doing exactly that. Why? I don't care anymore who is who in this game because it essentially doesn't make sense. I can be a King in Empire and yet pledge for Felicia Winters - because of "logic". There is no initiative for me to be all that dedicated for any of known factions mini factions, sub-mini factions or anyone in the game. All I just want is more money to do whatever I want and not to worry about rebuy costs.

But its a good way to keep the new players in the same area. Who new player wants to suddenly buy 3 different games and spend 150€?

Even if they save money, but I already have played 3 years before that.

I think that FDEV should name a Station 'The Palace' so all of the Drama Queens can hang out there. As there appears to be so many of them on this forum 8)
