I forget if we've done this already, it's been suggested before but I'm unsure if it's been done yet, but we should try posting a GalNet article asking anyone (NPCs) who has come into contact with a Barnacle to step forward with information. This is because it mentions people who have seen them in the description for Meta-alloys.

I don't think the NPCs will talk. There are probably big credits to be made if you know the location.

I think today I will go buy a 1.3 billion dollar powerball lottery ticket while I'm at work. Then after I win it and magically increase my LCK stat in-game.. I will go ahead and find these barnacles for us. Because thats the only possible way I see it happening now. On another note.. 1.3 billion.. holy crap.

A short report from the surface of Merope 1B:

Waited until Merope 1A was between 1B and the sun to check out if any barnaces will show in the shadows, none of them did, what a surprise.

But I can confirm a huge amount of fog once the surface is in the dark. It gets darker the deeper you get - also, you cannot see very far, view distance is 100 to 200 m. So it doesn´t make any sense to search with the ship as you wouldn´t be able to see any "green lights" through this fog, same applies to "something dark".

One of MB posts was about barnacles can be found either from ship or srv. Due to this i tend to rule out the theory that it would take "dense fog" for them to appear. It´s hard to find anything under these conditions, close to impossible.

Hmmmm....

He also said if you were at their coordinates you'd definitely see them (a where). He didn't say that it would have to be dark (a when).

We're taking a lot from the trailer, and let's face it if you were putting a scene together like that you'd want it dark and spooky. Doesn't mean they're always in the dark though.

We're talking about consistency in a game where you can find wreckages 50k LY from Sol guys, keep it real.

For what is worth I think the only way to truly find the barnacle is to organize and prepare an expedition, 6-8 wings per planet, no PoI on SRV, just orbital scouting.
Do we still have the exploration force needed? I heard there was some kind of trip to the core, it would be a shame if only few of us were left searching the nebula.

It was said that they cannot be seen from orbital cruise, so you have to drop down and at that point it's an astronomical amount of time to search that many planets. That's why I feel there must be a clue as to where to search on an planet say side of a crater, etc.

I think we are getting off track, a little space madness setting in. We are getting so desperate for hints or clues we are starting to analyze MB's general replies to comments for them lol

Maybe Michael's answer is a clue lol but a clever one.... "elder gods" lets say Atlas ? mmmm if so a nice one......

This is getting like the Tech press parsing the hell out of an Apple keynote invitation (analysing shapes/colours/wording)..... we're getting so paranoid and/or desperate :)

Edit: Cthulhu is an 'elder god' though given we were talking about those statues..... but then why wouldn't he quote .... he's saying another phrase.... its maddening
Definitely space madness ;)

I see your point, but IF the barnacles show in the ship sensors as blue areas that would at least alert you to their presence even in dense fog conditions. Then you could land your ship and look for them following the signal in your SRV sensors. And it wouldn't surprise me that's the way the guys at FD have designed a first encounter with the barnacles, as a glowing structure slowly getting unveiled ahead of you as you drive through fog is much more dramatic than the same structure plonked in some open space with no atmospherics.

But who knows... Until someone actually finds one it's all speculation.
