UAs, Barnacles & More Thread 5 - The Canonn

Limping a bit behind, due to actually playing Elite: Dangerous. and thus this info might have already been posted:
1. The Spires respawn after a certain time. I went to one and shot them all off, and not long later they returned, without me having to refresh the instance. (though two other CMDR came in).
2. They do not drop Meta-Alloys all the time. First pass yielded nothing, 2nd dropped two. (Not on the mission, btw).

I still don't think they are too common.

One location was found by pure luck, a second one was indicated through galnet. There are about 4 found but they are on two planets and pretty close to each other (on their respective planets. Is there a third planet with barnacles found yet?

Theory time !

Barnacles are mining installations (the barnacle grows spikes around it with pods containing refined elements)

UAs are vessels from the mining installations to wherever the minerals must be delivered (stored in those cylindrical pods along the spine and the meta alloys is contained in the bulb)

I also love that Meta-alloys are the answer to repairing the broken stations. I will definitely be ferrying some back and forth to help with the repairs at Obsidian.

Have we discovered the criteria for Barnacle discovery?

I don't think meta-alloys is confirmed to repair stations yet...

Also, the criteria seems to be anywhere in the Pleiades in sandy craters.

This might be a stupid question, but if we're thinking the the meta-alloys can reverse the station damage that the UAs cause, has anyone checked to see if carrying some meta-alloys in your hold protects against ship damage from a UA?

Yes and so far it's negative.

Been tested, does not work.

Summary of today's EXCITING findings.
@Rizal72, if you need to pick from the list, I've tried to list them here as they were posted.
Let's see, there may be 5-6-7 findings, we need to get the coords and locations into spreadsheets and plotting.

Okai, I lost count. (Sorry mobile device users, I'm using spoilers, lots of text)

Q:Now that one has been found, can you be a little more candid with your responses?
What other nebulae are they found in? And is Lagoon nebula one of those nebulae?
A: MB comment:

Congratulations Commanders, a really awesome job.
Respect. o7

You are a real Panzer! Thanks 1000!

I had to totally quit and log back in. Anyhow I did all my search in open. But there still is a bug

Gotta be honest this is getting bloomin stupid.

It's got the the point where you cannot have a discussion any more.

How can anyone possibly engage in a thread that gets 5500 posts in 6 days??

Seriously?

You're not the first to have said so, and I completely agree.

What we basically have here is multiple threads all mixed into one, with no ability to separate them.

I was checking those exclusively in the beginning.

What's the pirate situation like?

Despite my attempts to reason with the SDC they seem intent to keep up the blockade.
I have not received another reply from them, and cannot currently find a comment saying the blockade is over. But I'm on mobile, so I could have missed it.
Also, due to it now being apparent that the UAs and barnacles indeed are related part of my argument is quickly falling apart.
And I think that guy from Code now hates me.

Just would like to state that barnacles appear in OPEN and SOLO , no problem here (in my case at least).

Congratulations to the CMDR who first made the discovery!

I toured the barnacle site. Had to visit in Open, as it would not appear in Solo or Group modes. Very interesting, certainly appears to be a life form, but whether it is one transplanted to it's current location, or a native, who knows.

I collected a Meta-Alloy from the site while there in Open. Are these now confirmed to be of significance for stopping/reversing station failures? Will be interesting to know if they also prevent UAs from degrading ships.

Anyway, holding on to the Meta-Alloy for now, until more is known.

Terrific fun getting out there on the hunt, POI bug not withstanding.
