UAs, Barnacles & More Thread 5 - The Canonn

Yeah, this is exactly what I'm thinking. I'm almost certain that these "Barnacles" are simply mining outposts to gather materials for and synthesize Meta-alloys. The spikes are probably what do the "mining" and synthesizing, as we get materials and/or Meta-alloys by destroying them. This also explains the rumbling and cracking sounds that the spikes make. As for the main structure, maybe that's what stores them once complete?

speaking of that rumbling, maybe it systematically indicating the progress or rate at which its doing it. Or scanning for materials. Who knows. let's get someone to decipher that mang.

Also note (kind of an exploit) you can relog in solo play (and I assume if nobody else is around in open/private) the spikes will regenerate.

I appear to have lodged myself inside a spike

This is not an exploit, it has been noted several times in this thread that the spikes regenerate over time, even if you stay within the same instance they eventually grow back. Leaving then returning effectively speeds up the regeneration process.

I took a journey to Barnard's Loop.

Do we have any information or best guesses on planet requirements other than binary, and looking in mineral deposit-like fields?

This is how much the game hates my attempts at finding interesting things in ED: can't even find these buggers where they have been found.
Screw these 'events' until there's more than 1: waste tons of time and find the goal / 2: waste tons of time and find nothing at all. No inbetween where you find atleast a hint.
Couple dozens of crashed satellites and wreckages but of course none would hold hints, why shoud they even, we're supposed to find it by pure luck.

after doing some testing with my beam laser and the barbacle i found if i hit the middle "not the outer shell" that i got an code of flashing ligths in short and long flashes iv been able to recreate the the flashing lights

Honestly, after all that... all I feel is disappointment.
Not because I didn't find them first, but because I never even had a chance. I suffer from the same bug causing people to relog to get it to appear.
I can't actively participate in the search for more, because nine times out of ten, if I find a persistent site it wouldn't appear.
I'm also suspicious that less than 24 hours after some mysterious downtime that not just one but several barnacles were found less than twelve hours apart.

I'm disappointed in FDev for this whole crapshow(and 2.0 in general), and I'm slightly suspicious of FDev for possibly covering up the fact that they were bugged.

I sincerely hope that the rest of this years updates restore my faith in FDev.

I posted an image of the logo & similarity to Bernard's Loop earlier on. But as another CMDR pointed out the bottom part is missing. I looked at the loop from different angle within the map, and with some imagination, WitchHead Nebula and maybe other nebulas e.g. Running Man (?) could fill in. I.e. the logo described a whole region aka empire?

A 2nd thought was to inverse the logo, so the C shape is actually Barnard's Loop. Rotate the right image by 180deg.

Barnacle Bait... It's almost marketable.

Where did this 'log entry' come from?

(I'm wondering if it was the correct number of ly from Earth to be a transmission from the present day that just arrived at the finder's location)

I agree. This is the reason why I ask MB for know if they choose the location randomly or not. If the choose randomly all this is a waste of time, like lottery and it would be a very disappointing point.
If the choose a location for a precise reason, than it will be a reason for allowing the search going ahead.

The only thing I'm worried about when I get to Barnard's Loop is that it's a MASSIVE nebula. Gonna have no idea where to start looking.

Maybe it looks a little like the lagoon nebula (if you squint 😜 )

Negative results, flashing 'pattern' is just the lighting of the beam laser on the surface.
