Are they coming from outside this galaxy?

Degraded as usual yesterday, but galnet mentions they used meta alloy on the station and hey things improved but they don't Know why yet.
Perhaps something for crafting update later on

Could be initial improvement. However if both the UA and Meta-Alloys are proven to be related, it could be a quick fix that results in a horrible result. For all we know, we could be making Obsidian Orbital a new home base for someone

Can I ask, does anyone know if ANY of the barnacle POI's appear on ship radar?

I can confirm the Merope 5C one doesn't, just wondering if any of them do, perhaps the randomly generated ones?

If you've found one that does can you provide a screenshot, with the barnacle visible in the distance from above and the radar signature showing.

To my mind there may well be a bug here which is hindering gameplay and searching for stuff (I believe the static barnacle POIs not appearing is a bug), would really like to report and get it fixed if so.

Yesterday I recorded around 24 minutes of the sound of the Barnacle and took a look at it today. Here are some interesting facts about the sound of the Barancle (Not sure if this wasn't postet before...)

I placed myself onto the Barnacle, exited to the Main Menu and relogged to SOLO. As soon as I spawn I deactived the wave scanner and start recording. After all assets and high resolution textures were loaded the Barnacle began to sing:

BarnacleSound2.PNG
[24 minutes of Barnacle sound; in the upper half you can see the amplitude and in the lower half the frequenz analysis of the sound; please note that I speeded the recording here times 4]

What I noticed here are those deep thunderlike that occur every 20 seconds in various stages from almost unnoticible to very loud thunderstorm. Due to to irregularity in the timing of the loud thunder noises they tend to shift the following bass sounds by a few seconds. Following up on the most loudest thunder sounds is usually a short break of around 4 seconds. But sometimes, there are some almost unnoticible distortions between the bass sounds. (as seen on the second image between the first and second one)

Second point ist the constant background noise. It consists of two "melodies". The upper one changes is frequenz from around 350 Hz (f') up to 420 Hz (gis'/as'). The peroid is around 40 seconds or two bass sounds. It also changes its amplitude periodicly reaching its minima during the deep noise and maxima 10 seconds after that / before the next one.
The lower melody has a more constant frequenz from 210 to 233 Hz (gis/as to as/b) and features a distortion in the middle of its 16 second lenght. They occur every 20 seconds and vary in volume.
Both of this features are the most regular and periodic parts of the Barnacle sound.

In the upper frequencies are some additional sounds like noises placed directly in front of the loud thunder as introduction. But there are also seemingly random cries (they sound like some sigh of the UA) and other sounds. One of them usually appear around 8 seconds in advance of the next bass sound.

[Around one minute of frequenz analysis; lowest frequenzes at the bottom, logarythmic scale]

In the end, the structure of the sound seems very regular and only be disturbed by the thunder noises. On the other hand, you can see in the upper image that there are a lot of volume changes to all parts within a specific region. I'm not sure if this is random oder intended.

When you look on the frequenz analysis of the whole 24 minutes you see the regular shape of the sound only disturbed by the loud thunderstorm. It looks like you could count the common bass sounds until the next loud one but the problem is sometimes to determine wheter some of the sounds count as loud ones and which one don't count as them.
If someone wants to look into this I can share my Barnacle song on Dropbox.

When I look at the regular patterns I think of the Barnacle as a machine, a factory. But then are these irregular, random sounds that reminds me of a lifeform...

Why would their symbol be their home when viewed from a particular point in our galaxy?

Any interpretation of the markings as a celestial structure will be the structure as they see if from their home, as opposed to the structure being their home
Why wouldn't it be?

Voyager's Pioneer Plates don't show the milky way from earth. It shows an outside view of our solar system, and the location of our sun in relation to the center of the galaxy and some pulsars.

I think you are assuming.

Just quoting this commander ^^

Nah - No one would render the Solar System as seen from outside if they came from Earth, would they?

Ooopss..
