Like what happened with the SS1 CG if I'm not mistaken. It went along another path.

From my perspective I want things to be discovered rather than announced. That can't always be avoided - especially with people nosing through game files! Sometimes a nudge is needed to move things along, but I'd like to keep that to a minimum.

Sorry for off-topic, but here's a clue for you : on most mobile browsers such as chrome, Firefox or opera, you have an option to render the page as seen on a computer, and that helps a lot.

(now returning to catch up with the thread)
Hi Michael. Personally I want an intellectual puzzle to solve, combined with dipping in & out, as the fancy takes me, of the exploration, trading, etc that is the heart of the game. I think others are of the the same opinion but some are getting jaded by all the searching with, as far as they perceive, little clues - it is a very big universe for a blind search and there are a lot of wild speculative theories with (often) no way to test them. The spawning difficulties that some people are experiencing on the Barnacles etc is also contributing further to their frustration in the search process, & has led some to lose faith .
I think it is essential for the immersion to keep clues within the game framework-it would be nice for Galnet to occasionally put out a report along the lines of "Look how stupid the Empire/Federation/Pilots Federation/Canonn/etc are because this has just been found and the obviously evident clue to this was ...???... as reported by or investigative reporter Mr/Ms XXX in this news feed on ??/???/33?? ". And maybe very occasionally for some Galnet speculative articles?
Otherwise-great game & really enjoying it!
I read the first page of thread 5 again. https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=222049
Michael Brookes is quoted as saying: "And to those asking why nebulae - it's quite logical if you think about it"
So we know this (please correct me if this is inaccurate):
1. Nebulae are massive clouds of gas and dust that often contain the elements necessary for star formation. Some of those elements end up in other planetary bodies in those star systems, such as metals and so forth.
2. The barnacles and / or their 'trees' organically produce advanced alloys from these base elements - this appears to be analogous to plants producing fruit.
3. Like any plant, the quality of the soil will determine the quality of the fruit - in this case, the source elements available in the system.
4. So a smart galactic farmer will place his plants in the most fertile star systems for the best results. So far, this consists of systems with metal worlds, lying within the noted temperature and gravity ranges - the more systems we find, the more we'll learn about suitable conditions.
5. And the more we learn, the more 'fields' we'll discover - suitable nebulae for farming. Do different fields contain different soil, with different plants?
6. And as we find more fields, sooner or later we'll bump into the farmers...will they mind us discovering and taking their harvests?
Let's find the farmers
Furthermore, could barnacles be equipped with an alarm or warning system? Could they have already have tipped off their owners about our interference? Our farmers would surely monitor them in some way? I look forward to meeting them, hope they're not annoyed as I wouldn't say no to a day out on the farm ha ha
And can barnacles spread? Either by themselves, or through interaction with us? There's been speculation that UAs are barnacles, or the necessary materials, in transport. Could barnacles have taken root from UAs carried in the holds of crashed ships? Could we ever discover a way to plant one ourselves from a UA? What if meta-alloys self replicate? What if barnacles start appearing in, or on, space stations...!!
Not sure if anyone has mentioned this guys, but I think I've solved the problem of the Barnacles not spawning for people in Solo. After being fine all last night, today the one at Merope 5C refused to appear. I got out and had a look around in my SRV and noticed that my ship appeared to have the same wave signature as the Barnacle.
I moved out of the area, dismissed my ship and then logged out. On logging back in, the Barnacle then respawned.
Hope this helps those that are having issues.
Do we have any other method for extracting meta-alloys than shooting the barnacles with lethal weapons? If not, then I think that Dr. Palin is insane by issuing a request on public to bring him barnacles. Those barnacles can be sentient and even if not, they are certainly not property of human race. Regardless people now go blowing them up in their short-sighted greediness or "in the name of science" (which I honestly think is only a excuse for that greediness) -- My Annie's tail! This will bring about trouble, mark my words!
That mr. Palin is no scientist and therefore I refuse to call him a doc anymore. A real scientist would never issue such requests, knowing what would happen. Surely, mr. Palin is no better than rest of the Federation, which used to be his host.

Strange for a scientist and man of science to ask to shoot on an unknown object witj of course, unknown consequences...
I'm going to have to duck out and head back to the bubble from my current nebula this weekend and effectively give up on the search for now. I've still had nothing back from FD whether its worth continuing to search given the problems with Persistent POIs/Barnacles spawning. Shame really for such a key piece of the game, we enjoying it immensely but I have the feeling I'm just wasting my time at the moment.
If anyone has heard any different let me know.

To be fair if you're not going to take part in something in a game because of bugs that only affect the game sometimes, then you're not going to be doing a lot in this or many other games![]()
