UAs, Barnacles & More Thread 5 - The Canonn

Looks like the CG has been adjusted (or something fixed). An hour ago with 77,000 tonnes delivered progress was less than 50% to tier 1, and I was estimating 200,000 was the requirement. Now it's 80-90% of the way there so the target looks to be 100,000 tonnes or less. We'll make tier 1 by the end; doubt we'll get to tier 2 though.

Glad to read that, the amount of MA needed for tier1 was just insane. But even now, tier 1 is only achievable if a lot of people keep relog farming the heck out of the same barnacles over and over again. Pretty bad mechanic. But at least it looks like there's gonna be some kind of reward for those that farmed!

Perhaps we have yet to find out the correct mechanic for efficient barnacle farming. How about discovering a method to grow barnacles? Maybe that is the way to go...

Yeah that would be cool, but I don't think we discover anything like that before the CG ends.

with tier 1 now guaranteed to be completed it makes me think that this CG is not a crossroads in the story

You cannot apply the reverse logic, sorry.
It's a simple 26x26 grid, with all the alphabet letters on the two axis.
There are 1000 different ways you can draw something, in your case a barnacle, on that grid.
Check post #3 to understand well how the UA draws a ship using morse and you'll understand what I mean.

Ah well. Another hypothesis out the window!

Just a heads up. But some CMDRs on the Distant Worlds voyage are experiencing temporary "eclipses" while driving on the surface of planets as if a large ship was passing between them and the shadow casting star in the system.

Hmmm... Frontier did seem to express a lot of interest in the expedition, and it would make the perfect scenario for a major "reveal". It did seem to me the Barnacles hints were an attempt to push the storyline on a bit as a matter of urgency.

1 + 1 = aliens!

Well, I think with 100,000T+ to play with Palin had better be able to tell us:
-how/why the UA & Barnacles emit blue "spores"
-how/why the damage is caused (are the spores a form of radiation, lifeform or nanoparticle?)
-how MA can protect against the damage (leading into the crafting update, once we find a suitably qualified engineer?)
-come up with improvements to the ADS to be able to detect Barnacles at OC height
-give us a good recipe for spaghetti con cirripede e vino bianco
AND
give CG contributors a lifetime 50 % discount on the Advanced FSD that he'll develop with Sirius Corporation!

;-))

Mentioned this before, but hasn't really been followe up.

Has anyone tried to follow traces into the bubble so far?
- We have a crashed Anaconda (so human made ship) with barnacles?
- We have convoys (any factions on those?) transporting UAs?

-> somewhere in the bubble someone knows about all this.

I was at Obsidian yesterday and not feeling very inclined to go search for the elusive crustaceans, I took a legal data transport mission into the bubble from the BB. Was to deliver some Blacknet data to "The Discordian Society" station in Lausang. https://eddb.io/station/18587

(I don't think the BB can really be handcrafted to give us "hint" missions, but :) )
- "The Discordian Society" is a weird station name - sounds more like a faction to me .. and some googeling reveals a weird website with a motto: "As you learn more you will understand less. "
- Lausang is pretty close (2 hops) to the Empire's Dawn CG systems and pledged to Patreaus
- during the mission I got one of those "I have a better offer" stalkers .. did not check what he had to tell me, though
- after the mission I got a message in game with a follow-up (?) mission "the new black" (have not seen the kind of direct follow up to a mission before), which I did not follow, since if the Obsidian information trading is somehow related to bubble-factions, I did not want accidentially to step into something bad .

Wow!! Awesome work, I was just about to head out that way with my new Cutter....was trying to make sure I had everything outfitted that I would need before I headed out that way. :D
Yeah, no outfitting at Maia so it doesn't hurt to triple-check what you'll need. A buddy found that out the hard way, then returned to the bubble only to find all the "nearby" stations he kept trying had their services locked down by the thing we're attempting to cure!

Congratulations on joining the Cutter Club, BTW! I highly recommend when you land yours, jump in your SRV and dismiss/recall it a few times just to watch the gorgeous animation of the landing gear up close. It is a thing of beauty.

I've found the solution!

I could have sworn that the UA I saw was pointing either at the Pleiades nebula, which is of course already know... or the one right next to it from my viewpoint...
