How do you feel about the 2 weeks exclusivity period?

Following on from the recent announcement that the Alpha exclusivity period is two weeks rather than hopefully a few hours how do backers feel about this?

There were a couple of large threads after the last newsletter with many points regarding the exclusive access and 50% off insurance which were basically put to bed when Michael posted that the exclusivity period would only be a few hours if all went well.
This may or may not still be the case for subsequent beta build releases but the initial build will have a 2 week exclusivity period starting around the 16th of May (2 weeks before the 30th of May) LINK.

I can understand the desire to do a sanity check before releasing beta builds to beta testers but since the initial exclusivity period is a hard 2 weeks it flies in the face of the sanity check as if there are no issues with the build then beta tester should in theory be given access but they won't be and will have to wait the two weeks out.

My personal take on it is that I don't it's very fair to suddenly just when the Alpha period is coming to an end to withhold access to the Beta that beta backers pledged for to sell more Alpha packages. Some may argue that this isn't the case but the timing of the announcement along with the wording of the newsletter and the subsequent announcement that the exclusivity period is a hard 2 weeks rather than just a sanity check would IMO prove that it is indeed just a lure to snag more £'s.

I would be surprised if FD suddenly needed extra money due to the fact the game has been funding to the tune of 2.45 million pounds just via crowd funding, in addition to the funding they received from other sources.
Is this something you want to see in a company that you help fund a game for? Does your love for the older games and passion for the upcoming game mean that you don't really care what FD do as long as they deliver the goods?

It is not my intention to cause a ruckus here (so please let's have an adult debate) but just to point out something which I do not feel is on and to have my objection (and probably other people's) noted so that FD are aware that their backers do not appreciate what could be considered an underhand practice (changing goal posts, using the pledge tiers of other backers as an incentive to make more money). The game is being made by the grace of us backers after all.

Nice mature debate from the first two replies.

Since new information has come to light that contradicts the old information we had then yes we do need an new thread as the old ones have been locked.

Why are you so against talking about this?
If you don't want to be part of the discussion then please just refrain from reading or commenting.

"Tell us, how does that make you feel?"

Seriously, just get over it. Nothing is going to change. It's only two weeks. There are far more important things to worry about.

Fascinating that you'd prefer to call me names, demand the thread be closed, imply I need some kind of emotional support rather than have a discussion on the matter.

There was nothing immature about my reply, and I don't feel there is anything to "debate".

Premium Beta for Premium Beta folks will probably be later than 30th May anyway, we (alphas) will probably find a few whoppers that will need sorting out before releasing to the PBs - if the process since Alpha 2 is anything to go by...

Lets hope it all runs by the numbers though, and PBs get access when FD say they will get access, and subsequent phases run through as smoothly as is possible.

I'm not too worried about alpha backers getting the beta two weeks early. I don't see the point of it, but it's no skin off my nose either.

I do hope there will be a server reset on the 30th May however so everybody starts off on an equal footing.

Also, to people that accuse other people of whinging, you do realise those accusations sound a bit like whinging right?

I feel that Frontier have 2 choices here.

A) Say the exclusivity period is a few hours and be berated when they have a major problem found by alpha's they cannot fix in this window.

B) Say the exclusivity period is 2 weeks, and regularly beat this with early releases to beta premium when they mostly find things working with the occasional bigger problem pushing it back further.

Given how forums can be - makes more sense to go for B rather than A

From what i have read so far, (haven't been able to keep up with all the threads whilst at work) they are saying the period is 2 weeks but they have the option to release stuff early if there are no problems which could be in the hours range.

Makes sense to release to premium beta as soon as serious problems with the release are ironed out, yet be covered in what they have promised.

There is a reason they have been locked and closed, whinging beta players who can't wait a few weeks. It's been 30 years in the making and you can't wait a few more weeks. Frontier Developments have been upfront with what they are doing and why they are doing it. You choose to whinge about not getting your gift when you want it. If anyone is being immature its you. Alpha testers have put a lot of money into this and it really has nothing to do with Frontier making more money. Ok they may pick up an odd one or two but let me tell you there are a lot of problems in Alpha right now 3.4 is a fairly solid build but there are tonnes of network problems, lag issues, issues with the scenarios. You may want your beta but whats the point if its broke. The Alpha consists of a smaller demographic which allows frontier to test without getting a DDOS worth of tickets back from whinging users saying it doesn't work. The two week grace for premium beta will allow the Alpha testers time to catch most of the major bugs, I'm not saying all that's why its a beta before they release it to a wider audience. I'm sure that when it comes to Standard beta they will make the same choices with the Premium beta guys having a grace period. So like I said earlier stop whinging, enjoy your 'bonus' single player which personally i think is a great idea for the beta players who I know have been waiting a while. and let the Alpha do what it does best, find things, fix things so that we can all have a great game Soon.......

That's way too long post with same rehashed arguments for first build having 2 weeks testing with alphas. Also you forget to mention that rest of beta builds will get as short as few hour window for alphas.

-1 from me.

That is not the case. I had it clarified if you follow the link to the original announcement thread. It is a hard two weeks, if the build has no issues it will still last two weeks.
