News The Elite Dangerous Beta FAQ Thread

Has the "xinput1_3.dll" missing error when trying to launch the game initially been sorted out.
I assume it has, but there has been one or two reports about this issue amongst new Alpha backers quite recently, so I'm not sure.
If it hasn't been sorted, adding instructions on how to fix it would be a good idea.

Link to the "DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer" from Microsoft

My original post on the issue.

I got a: "xinput1_3.dll" missing error when trying to launch the game initially. This is not so much an E: D issue as a DirectX issue.

It's a DirectX dll file and running the "DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer" from Microsoft solved the issue.

Just in case somebody encounters the same issue.

Hello

Freshly upgraded from Standard to Premium Beta, and hugely looking forward to having a play when I get home from work tonight.
A couple of questions... How big is the download? Wondering how long I'll have to wait before I can get my teeth into it.
And is there still a lingering issue with 16:10 monitors about which I read ages ago?
If so, is there a workaround?

Thanks

Download was around 1 GB, maybe a little more.

Running on 7680x1440, other than a bit of distortion extreme left and right view (and some clipping, reported) seems to be fine.

The game installer (not the launcher, the installer the launcher launches ) currently only has the option to install to the C: drive. Any way of frigging this to install to a different one? If not, please put in an option to choose the installation location in the game installer please.

I just downloaded the launcher, but it doesn't seem like I can download the actual game.
The launcher seems to be unable to connect to the server, making it unable to retrieve the news, or let me log in. Is this a known issue, or is there something wrong on my end?

Here you go...

I have noticed that a lot of people use the same setup as myself. A small SSD drive for their OS install and a larger separate drive for games. The latest ED client forces people to use the OS drive for the game files. This is not ideal for those with restricted space.

Here are some instructions for installing ED to your preferred drive and folder. I have tested and verified this works a few times now.

Kudos to TheDarkKnight for the easier and refined version. I have edited the OP so his instructions are on the main post.

  1. Run the Client-Installer.exe
  2. Choose the drive and or folder you wish to use. In my case D:\Elite
  3. Let the launcher install finish, if it is running, close the launcher window, do not login
  4. Navigate to where you installed the launcher, in my case D:\Elite, and create a folder called Products in the launcher folder. EG: - D:\Elite\Products
  5. Now start the launcher again, log in and install the client.
  6. When the download is complete you should see the install as automatically installed the client in the folder you created called Product.

This workaround will hopefully only be short lived. I am sure FD will get us an updated client installer than restores the option to chose your ED install location.

I have the same problem. When I try to log in in the launcher it says "Unexpected response from server: ServiceUnavailable"

edit: found the solution, run the launcher as administrator :)

Hi,

when i start the game client i get this error after the Elite Dangerous logo:

loginfail.jpg

The launcher login works fine, i reinstalled the program several times (first i used the custom install location "hack", maybe that was a mistake? It is now in its "proper" location), disabled firewall and antivirus etc.

It did work when i gave it a quick spin at work shortly before i went home, maybe it is not allowed to install it on more than one computer?
