It's very good, isn't it?

Just a quick question for anyone who reads this, How do you look around the cabin?

It's mapped as mouse button 3, which I press but as soon as I move the mouse to look around, it snaps back to the front and gives me an acceleration boost.

I'm assuming this is because the mouse is also mapped to acceleration, so how do I remove that.

I 'bought' premium beta with a 100% discount early this morning. Order is still pending :(

Ah guess that's something only customer support can help with. Hope it clears for you quickly (almost typed soon which would have jinxed it).

There's two settings in your options for the way it behaves. The other one works better using it that way. Can't get to my home pc to give you actual headers but am sure you will find it easily.

Maybe you have to hold down 'mouse 3'? Check the key mapping/control configuration.

A mouse3 click toggles it, there are two settings for how it moves. Seem to remember one is called accumulative. Switching to the opposite setting to what he has will fix it, as i've got mine to work exactly the same as he's trying to.

Great post!

enough available buttons - also no vertical thrusters meaning you remap one or two and you lose other combat buttons (silent running and heatsinks)... solution?

You could try something like voice attack to activate silent running and jettison heatsinks...

The only thing is, I have a vague memory that version of Alpha didn't work with voice attack and I'm wondering if it's been updated...

Toad.

Have you checked under "My Downloadable Products" to make sure you can't download the installer anyway?

Maybe it says "pending" because the real Beta doesn't start until later?

Yep.. got my Alpha up and running last night and got to that mission myself while still figuring out the controls... easiest way to turn and take him was to add some side thrust to the turn and you're on his six in no time... entire fight lasted 2 minutes of turning until I figured how to get all Newtonian on his ****... very satisfying... Shame my bog standard Logitech Extreme Pro joystick doesn't work... I'm sure they'll add it later but for now it's keyboard and mouse...

Then I played around in the asteroid field skimming as close to them as I could and then got closer to one of the big ones trying to find a cave in it... sadly no Empire Strikes back moment for me.

As a side note not all Brits like tea.... I'm from the UK but live in the US... and I cannot stand the stuff... nasty, horrible, vile, putrid drink hot or cold...

No, clicking the download button it just says "The link is not available."

To me it did take longer get the validate code than the 4min of dl and install of the combat senarious, to me the first 2 mission was just me getting grips whit the Controls or rather 1/3 of the Controls of the joystick. :p

The Third mission was actualy easyer , npc only managed eat away 5% of my hull before i had his tail infront me and he was a goner , now on to elud the cobra whit Learning how to go stealty. :D

So after a bit of fiddling I got the betary alphary client running and ran through the first couple of missions. Very pretty, ship handles nicely, should be great when there's something proper to play. Then I load up the Crimson Triumph mission. I've got a few things to do around the house, but I'll take a look before I get on with them.

Excellent writing - you should send that to a magazine as a mood piece...

I just saw the announcement this morning, so kicked off the download & install while working on another machine. That meant it was all ready for me to fire it up for a "quick peak" during my normal coffee-break time. The x52 is packed away so played the first 2 missions with the mouse (and ow - does my shoulder ache or what now? I blame the standing desk...).

Very slick, very responsive, and impressively polished for a beta...

But now I have to get back to work, and tomorrow I fly off for a weeks holiday, so I'm tying to figure how early I can knock off today, and if I can get the x52 out without the wife noticing :)

Cheers, I did try just holding mouse 3 down which didnt work, and if it did toggle, it didnt work either, but i did notice the accumulative setting option , so ill give it a go when I get home later

Hate to say this but took me a while to find it that Mouse and Keyboard is not the default setting and that it is set to Custom at the very top of the Controls page in settings....

I changed that in the drop down to Mouse and Keyboard and found every key setup to be very intuitive.
the left right and center views of the cockpit controlled by 1, 2 and 3 keys... (not exactly a smooth look around but gets me to the control panels)
Arrow keys work the power management settings and throttle, thrust etc right where I expected them to be...
