Distant Worlds - A journey beyond the Abyss

There is a C-N Carbon Star some 1,000 LY below NGC 6357 if anybody is interested in some sight seeing. System is 'first discovered' already, credits go to CMDR Vaaz Blackwood.

Enjoy!

Every time I come across a Water world en route, I keep having flashbacks to a certain Kevin Costner picture, or fears of running into a black hole nearby a la Interstellar.

Hey, sure everyone but me already knew this but if you didn't, CL Pismis 3 has a nice little black hole to play with and it's only a jump away from base camp 5 :)

Edit* make that 2 black holes :)

I went for a drive down at the bottom of the big crater yesterday. I thought I had the stamina to drive all the way back up again - my arduous training in the mountains of Morrowind and Skyrim having prepared me for the art of ascending impossible cliffs - but after a while I realised I'd much rather be back in my nice cozy ship, so I called it back...

Very funny, Ship. Just hovering there looking at me with those big puppy-dog eyes. So I had to climb the mountain after all. :)

...just look at the detail in that crater wall...and the sky.

Okay, there is some work to be done on textures and shadows and lighting but, come on...even in the current state, this is just great stuff.

Oops, must have missed one. They are quite difficult to spot, being black and all :)

There's also a blackhole at CL PISMIS 16, CL PISMIS 18, CL PISMIS 19 and a neutron star at CL PISMIS 15

You will have trouble jumping between CL PISMIS 13 and 19 because they occupy the same part of the galaxy so you need to jump to another system first and then replot.

Also a neutron star at:

PRIELUIA RR-W D1-144
PRIELUIA RR-W D1-13

Remember to jump in with throttle at zero. Do a discovery scan, Select the closest object in your navigation tab. Scan the neutron star and then have it directly behind you before throttling up.

I share your feeling, the visuals of this game amaze me every single day. I just recently bought a 34" ultra wide screen (21:9) just because of it. Did cost me 900€ but I didn't regret it (yet :) ). VR is the non plus ultra for this style of game, but the current/upcoming headsets are the first of it's generation and imho not worth the money. Maybe in 1-2 years, when we are 2 GPU generations ahead and VR is past it's early adopter state.

What enhances this experience even more is the right background music when exploring/prospecting. I'd recommend this playlist for example (while turning off any ingame music):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qvglWAHDak&list=RDEMcxQuz-ELu51ZpArhWuw9Xg

Surely it's not everone's cup of tea, but it fits to the Zen-like gameplay of ED, for me at least. Spend at least 80+h exploring with this playlist. Enjoy :)

After bouncing my ship on a planet because I went into debug camera mode as I was flying away and accidentally went into reverse, I'm 2.5K through my 12.5K journey back to the bubble. Too far to grind it so I am still scanning and looking for ELW's and ammonia worlds. I've found two systems so far with both an ELW and AW in the same system. Those are systems destined to have interplanetary conflict sometime.

Gave a shriek when I jumped into this though:
