Distant Worlds - A journey beyond the Abyss

I set the speed taking into account how much I need to tank up. If I tanked up at the previous star then I set the throttle to full while fuel scooping so that I can get further away from the star by the time I've looked at the map. This means less time waiting for the fuel scoop to disengage before I can start charging my frameshift drive. There is also less chance of getting too close to the star again if I have to do a massive turn before jumping out.

I think frameshift charging might be slowed by mass as well but I might be wrong here.

I also try to make sure to stay in a straight line away from the sun while waiting for the frameshift drive to charge and turning just in time for me to jump. This allows me to get away from the star more quickly.

Your ship, your call! I'll be watching your progress with great interest!

I suspect the 7C scoop will become a source of great regret.

Z...

Heh, takes 2 mins to fill every 30-40 mins so it aint too bad - and more importantly my credit balance doesnt support anything better right now.

Edit: my very first exploration outing in Elite was in December 14, i went out to pretty much where the fleet is now in an Asp Explorer - it took all of my funds to fit, the Advanced Discovery Scanner was a 'big investment' and i didn't return until March 15.

That ship had a max range of 25ly and a D or a C scoop. After that trip anything is acceptable to me now haha.

Well, it seems I'm going to have to do the run from wp5 to wp6 in a single day, no relaxed exploring for me :(

I had planned to spread the travelling out over my two days off work but I'm still parked up in the bubble waiting for the support team to fling me back out to the vicinity of wp5.

So so back to twiddling my thumbs, it's very weird having a day off but not being able to play, even tried cqc, but I was terrible. Maybe time to reinstall GTA V just to give me something to do.
That's harsh. :/

And exactly the reason why my SRVs stay docked until this is solved.

I'm in the same boat, sitting in Sol waiting for FD to put me back out there. Glancing at my email for that fateful notification where I get to play again.

Racing ahead is such a lonely business.

It's odd, but it's immediately noticeable. I'm not one to wing up all the time around Waypoints, or do group exploring, but seeing all those CMDRs around me all the time, does create a sense of flying in a group. Now I'm ahead of the pack, and looked back yesterday at the launch and seeing them green tags progress, I felt envious and alone.

To cheer myself up, I put on a playlist

I have work related crap to do tonight and tomorrow night so will put on my spikes for Wednesday and sprint to WP6. If I do make it in time stay away from the Condie, cos it will be hot man hot.

Is it just me or do comms only seem to be effective when you are in a certain range of people? Also, has anyone not left yet? I'm waiting on being teleported back to NGC by FD due to an SRV problem, would be keen to wing up tomorrow evening for the voyage onwards.

It will ramp up faster if you are moving quick, i.e. up to max, but once there if you zero speed it will maintain the level, so I tend to move until I am scooping about 900, then hit the zero speed or at least slow down until full. I bet everyone has a different method lol, what I can definitely say is once you are scooping at max, if you are then at 30km/s you will still scoop at max.

I rather keep my speed, orbit the star and just as quickly climb out as I got in range. That way I can usually start the fsd drive as soon as it's available, already charging while scooping then leaving the heat zone quick enough to stay under 90% heat. It adds a bit of excitement to traveling. Not that the extra 2 seconds matter much on travel time, which is mostly server dependent. Zoning can take between 20 and 40 seconds. Zoning into a busy waypoint can take several minutes. Yet when the server cooperates I can do 45 sec per jump consistently. A theoretical maximum of 3120ly per hour in a 39ly capable Anaconda. More realistically, 25 minutes per 1000ly stretch is doable.

On the same boat, already passed wp6 and on my way to wp7. This is something i really dont want to do anymore, but Firaxis and 2K Games, you leave me no other choice.. :(

This is exactly the number I verified pre DW, and that was in a 35Ly Condie, done by honking, not scanning the star and scooping on the move.

I estimate a minute a jump as that's nice and easy ;) as you can get quite a variation on the number of jumps in the lower star density areas ( my ASP does 32.5ly so min jumps to do 1000kly is 31 - I have seen this but in low density areas this has been as high as 40 jumps).

If I do it quicker it's a bonus!

I want to join you guys with my Asp 31 jump range. I have just prepared my ship, this took some time :)

Now, how do I join you? I just have to fly to waypoint 6 in open play and that's it? Or are you playing in some private group? I am sending my commander profile via PM shortly, once I make some nice screenshot :)

BTW, I tried to register on FGE forum, but there is some server error 403, and I can't proceed with that.

Group 'Erimus' has been opened up to non-registered pilots. Put your name down on the sign up thread and apply to that group in game and I'll add you. (note : roster is not being updated for the time being).

Comms for non-roster players are also available here : https://discordapp.com/invite/0hKG2qb9ODixa7Iz

I saw you crossing the gap as well :)

I'm planning to reach WP 7 and from there on rejoin the pack.

My thoughts also. Lets see if we end up there same time so we can do for example some prospecting. Or then we can just sit back and have a sausage fest, IF we have time over XCOM2.. ;)

You start charging the frameshift drive while the fuel scoop is still engaged? I just saw the heat go up massively and assumed that I would start taking damage. At least that has happened to me in the past and I haven't tried it since. I suppose I could give it a try now that I am back at the bubble. I also plan to test my heat sinks again just to find out exactly how responsive they are to key presses.

It's been useful to find out though that you can still fuel scoop at max rate even when the throttle is at zero once you are up to maximum rate. I might find a use for that if I need to fill an empty tank or the orbit line isn't showing.

Landfall has been made! We're 2 CMDR's enjoying a nice view overlooking a vast canyon at WP6. Feel free to join us.
Also, brave the canyon's slopes at your own risk, they are quite steep.
