Alpha 4 to be released in May?

It s amazing how we can refuse to believe what's clearly written haha, it could have been a typo like 2000 cubic light years which would only be 2 sectors but the 200^3 cubic light years claim was not quite reasonable imo.
There are probably a bunch of dark systems in between the star systems proper.

sure the real stars we know of are merely the ones we see, we may not know real stars around iota crucis which would fit in the 6x6x6 cube but there may be a few, at least that's a good reason to put some randomly generated systems there.

actually some may be hidden behind some dark cloud of dust as well.

Last week's tweet said "incoming". On the other hand...

you're so funny guys

to alpha 4 there will be at least 2 weeks ahead for us to wait... AT LEAST.

i only hope into a newsletter this week to explain galaxy map view and hyperspace jump concept art, but i fear it will be the next week not this one.. :(

Until there's an official announcement, there's not much that can be said on this I'm afraid. Here's an extract to the latest news post on the site however, which sets the dates for the Premium Beta, which may help in giving an indication -

The full Premium Beta will start on 30th May 2014, and until then, players will be able to practise with the single player combat build.

I want to take this opportunity to thank all those who have played such an important role in Alpha testing, and I’m very happy that we will continue to benefit from their valuable input as they test Beta builds approximately 2 weeks in advance of release.

looks like A4 is really early beta then, mid may?

I guess i'll have plenty of time to enjoy Tesla Effect which goes out on April 22

Let us dream.:D

We already got this month's newsletter so probably no new newsletter until May.

The dates just don't add up if it takes that long. After plenty of requests for clarification, we seem to have a reasonably clear statement that Beta is on May 30th, and that access to that beta by the alpha testers will be 2 weeks before that: thus around May 16th. If Alpha 4 is not for at least 2 weeks (and let's assume it comes out on a Friday like the beta will), then the earliest would be April 25th (or May 2nd if it is the first Friday after 2 weeks are up). That would give us just 3(or 2) weeks testing of a new alpha release with significant new functionality. None of the alpha phases have been anything loke that short.

Yes, but the statement that the Alpha backers will get the Beta two weeks in advance (mid-May) while we at the same time can read that Alpha 4 is coming in May in the store l is the reason for the confusion. Either the testing phase for Alpha 4 will be extremely short which feels weird, Alpha 4 is pretty much the Beta OR the plan is to release it sometime this week or next week. Tweets about about how Alpha 4 is "incoming soon" doesn't help... :p

FD not clarifying this further also adds to my suspicion that you guys are planning to just drop this on us "out of the blue" sometime "soon".

If I'm wrong you are free to say so! ;)

well i guess it depends also on how much difference we get between A4 and B1
B1 might not bring a lot on top of A4 to test.

But I guess you're right, 3 weeks is really short for testing.

Good try, but I suspect you are doomed to fail on that one.

Based on the confusing and contradictory statements thus far, plus the (natural) desire to be very careful not let anything slip, my best guess would be that the A4 release will be, indeed, soon*.

* = (probably this week)

Indeed. Indeed it may be that there will not really be an A4 because A4 and B1 are fundamentally the same thing. The longer it goes before A4 hits the more likely that is. But if that is really what they intend, then their PR is even worse than I already thought it was (and I think it is pretty bad thus far). If A4 = B1, then they should have never mentioned the '2 weeks for alphas to get it' bit that so annoyed so many beta backers, because those labels would mean that they could get their 2 weeks pretest and not have to put beta backer's noses out of joint.

Only if you are convinced 2+2 = 11*

The statement you used to draw that conclusion makes no such suggestion. You may be right, of course, but you cannot claim to be on the basis of that statement.

* which it does in mod3
maybe, I dont know what to believe yet, to me the way i understood it from the start was that it was 2 different things. "alpha 4" then "early beta" but it's true that if we have both in may, and the store actually says that A4 is due in may, it looks like everything will happen very quickly next month.

the beta and A4 announcement said two things :
- that beta backers will have beta 2 weeks after alpha backers
- that date for A4 would be given shortly

to me this is suggesting that it's not the same thing.

btw; 2+2=11 i actually believe it to be equal to 100, well you know 1 10 11 100 101...

agreed, that the timelines seem to be getting squeezed.

I'm surprised that alpha 4 hasn't already come out, or won't be out, this week. two weeks for an alpha build isn't a lot of time to bug test everything before the expected first round beta is released to the alpha players.

and yet, its been said previously that the alpha players could potentially only have the beta build for a matter of 'hours' before the premium beta players get access - pending their not being any 'show stopper' bugs. now that seems to have changed.
