Distant Worlds - A journey beyond the Abyss

That's not quite right I'm afraid. The BB created mostly Hydrogen, but there was some Helium and trace amounts of Lithium & Beryllium. H & He still account for about 99.9% of all the matter in the Universe....

Yes, I know, sorry about that... I just couldn't get the phrasing melody to sound right in my ears "The Big Bang created hydrogen and helium. The stars mostly burn hydrogen into helium, but the larger ones also create Carbon, Oxygen...", so I ask poetic license on this one!

I find physics to be poetic on a sublime scale that no human has ever imagined.

On my way to waypoint 8 I found my first Herbig of the trip:

This is what happens when you let your ship land on top of you on a high g planet, aka pancake landing.

I was racing to the green icon as usual which normally is somewhere on the horizon. Then the vertical stick appeared right on top of my location, not a second later the ship crashed on top of me.
No harm done though, reloading the non horizons version put me back in orbit. Then I tried landing on the next planet, which oddly didn't work.

I hoping this thread stays open , even after the 'official' trip has finished. Like so many others , work and family commitments means I did not join the trip and could not keep the commitment to the time table. but hoping to wing with some friends and take 'the grand tour' in our time... so would like this not to close.
thank u

I just wanted to pop my head in and say howdy to y'all. I just came back from a 3-4 month long hiatus from Elite. Looks like I missed the boat on the expedition, but after a quick few words over the forum, I made a decision: tardiness be damned. I'm going! I don't care if I get my name on a plaque or not. I'm still going. ;)

I was a few caps short of fitting a ship though (long story, involves an account reset) so I headed out to Obsidian to pick up a few smuggling missions. With 5.5 million worth of narcotics in my hold and no weapons on my travel fitted sscout I headed for civilization. I got all the missions delivered, though just barely...

Bought myself an Asp Explorer, painted it gold and got it fitted with 700,000 to spare. I'm broke, but I can scan a bug from 5 km away, and jump clear across the abyss. Tuned into Wasp radio, plotted a course for the core and off I went. It'll be a while, but I'll be with you asap. Already gone 3500ly after all.

This gold asp caught up with the fleet at wp8. You can do it.

It happened again, SRV damage bug. From 95% to 2% without any indication of hitting something.
It's very consistently 93% damage, as before I went from 100% to 7% and CMDR hst12 reported going from 99% to 6%. The two I lost my damage was in upper 80's range.
I've had the bug 4 times now, in 2.93 MM. Always on pretty much flat terrain, at various speeds. Once winged up, other 3 times prospecting alone on a planet.

If you don't want to lose an SRV, always keep damage at 95% and up. Or avoid flat terrain :p

I think I've encountered a strange bug.

My ship and SRV are both at 99% health now.

I've not had any rough landings with my ship, or anything that at all grinded on the shields at all. I've had several landings, but all of them with drop rate in the one or two box range of neutral, and all in proper terrain.

My SRV won't accept an SRV repair to get back to 100%. Nor does it repair when I return to the ship.

It reminds me, more than anything, of the repair bug we had for a while where you could always spend 10cr on repairs, even at full health. (As I type this out, I wonder if it's related to the 97% boom bug on SRVs.)

Has anybody else had this? Should I ticket this or keep on trucking?

Yep, I've had it. My ship is showing 99%, but if I target it in my SRV, it shows 100%. Similarly, my SRV always seems to start out at 99%. Not sure what's going on there....

My Type 7 is on 100%, and its SRV's also start at 100%.

Wierd.

In roughly the same distance driven, I've never seen the bug. I wonder if it depends on system configuration or settings or something like that?

(I think the only SRV I've lost was at the meetup on whatever that ridiculously fast orbiting moon is, before the expedition started, when I drove off a cliff and bounced repeatedly - I don't remember losing others, apart from the two in the Sonnenkreis' hold when I crashed it.)

I haven't checked from ship-targeting while in SRV. I'll do that next time I'm dirtside!

I am curious if anyone experiencing the SRV bug have an enhanced hull strength repair on it.

I can try one of those next time I land. I need to burn up some non-Jumponium mats anyway. How long does the +repair+ last?

I only have a GT 740m in my laptop, so I'm driving at max 15fps on planets. Maybe low fps has something to do with it. I do prefer driving on high g worlds on mostly flat terrain (tumbling at 12fps isn't fun). I've never used the extra strength repair though, always do a basic repair when I reach 95%.

I lost one at a meetup too, my laptop lagged so bad that I lost control of my SRV at WP1 and crashed into my own ship while trying to dock.

Edit: And again, 100% to 7% while driving at full speed on flat terrain avoiding any rocks, that's 5 now. At least I know I'm safe as long as I keep the SRV above 95%
After repairing I misjudge a jump over a crater at full speed, land badly, roll onto the roof, 100% to 99%. Makes perfect sense!

I had that one, including the fact that it shows 100% on scans.

It started when I logged out on a planet and logged back in. Did it happen that way for you?

((And I never got to test repairing that ship because I boosted backwards into a crater wall while trying to take off in reverse. Don't ask...))
