If Mobius was shut down where do you think the players will go? Open or Solo? I can tell you as one of those players I would be exclusively in Solo...I won't speak for others except to say they are in Mobius and not Open for a reason.

Lets now go the other way...there is a formal PVE only group created (or some sort of mechanic that promotes PVE). I don't think it unreasonable to suggest this would be quickly taken up by people from Mobius and also people from Solo. I would argue that a PVE option would help consolidate all those disparate groups that want to avoid Open in its current form and wouldn't be a deathnail but give players a true choice to play in a way that suit them best.

This.

All the PvP junkies seem to be under the illusion that taking away Mobius will convince those who use the group to go into open.

Here's a little reality check for y'all: IT WON'T.

Anyone who plays exclusively in Mobius will just play in solo, if their goal is to avoid PvP. I would. I did until I heard of Mobius...

Methinks the PvP junkies are just butthurt that there are some people they won't get to wrangle like a wolf to the sheep, for their entertainment.

Here's the truth: It ain't fun for the guy who just wants to play Space Truck Simulator 2016. I don't give a :) what you PvP junkies want. Elite was not a PvP game when it arrived in 1984. There is no reason it should be PvP in its current iteration. Deal with it PvP junkies. Not everyone just in it for the PvE like they were back in '84 are willing to be your pawns, and we will do everything in our power to deny you your "fun" at our expense.

Been riding solo since beta, nothing I've ever seen or heard on these here forums has ever made me want to change. Is it a lonely life? Sure, but so much less hassle. If I ever want to be intermittently annoyed by griefers and idiots while playing Elite I'll put on Fox News in the background.

This! (to lengthen to eight characters): This!

Yeah gotta say I was a bit surprised to see no-one at all round Shinrarta one night last week.

I'm assuming distant worlds has pulled a lot away. (1000 CMDRs)

Planet surfaces are "out of instance" too. =/

Also from what I'm reading Mobius is being split into two groups as a "temp" workaround to solve the issues Frontier are currently having.

So many ways to prevent people encountering each other.

It's evolving in the wrong direction if you ask me, we need more encounters not less.

Agreed, agreed and agreed (solving the character count rule)

Exactly why threads like this exist. Yes, it has happened before, and yes, if FD does nothing but say oh well, no rules were broken, it will happen again.

But so what, it's just not a big deal. So a few players got shot at, the offending CMDRs were banned, they won't be popping back in to do it again.

Mobius has 20000 CMDRs in it, you're 0.005% of the population. Chance of you getting hit are pretty slim, perspective.

It's blown all out of proportion on the forums, you read a thread like this and you get the impression it's not a really rare occurrence.

It's like reading about someone winning the lottery and thinking oh I better buy a ticket this weekend because I might win (not really but you know what I mean).

I am glad I never leave the house, I read about a someone getting hit by a car and dying, it's must be awful out there. etc... =p

Open but with HRP and SCB banned, and FD has to make sure nobody secretly uses them anyway. I also want an exclusively FA-off mode, and a mode where you are not allowed to do evil stuff like smuggling slaves.
And dont forget the mode were there is no combat

Solo
Group
Open
Arena
Open pve

Sigh what next....

You forgot one option. IRON MAN, this should mostly make the griefing go away, as the griefers and pvpers would jump on the train immediately. Even I would love the danger of IRON MAN. Oh dear, Sidewinder you are my best friend :)

Really simple, in Open mode have a toggle for PVP it's either on or off, On, you are openly consenting and looking for PVP, Off you cannot be shot at, nor shoot any other player. Another addition is simply specify a few systems as PVP systems if you enter that system, it's fair game...

Solved,, easy peasy..

You know people would toggle the toggle for advantage.

Again, to you and others it's not a big deal, to me and others it is.

We're not talking about being hit by a car, we are talking about PvP/PvE, a much more important subject when discussing PC games, unless it is a car sim.

For me, a "PvE" group that has a 0.000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% chance of PvP, is not a PvE group. Which is why I play in solo, not even Mobius Group.

Oh... wow. Never met them myself, but I guess combat logging is what I would do if I play in Mobius and encounter any PVPer who want to kill me.
Frankly, those SDC members who done that should be banned from the game. If there is a minor power associated with them, it also should be removed.
Yup. If this doesn't warrant a lengthy or perma shadow ban, nothing does.

But it's not, players in ED get shot at ALL THE TIME, if you're in the bubble it's possible for you to get attacked AT ANY TIME, this is a fundamental part of the core game.

In that light this really isn't worth getting upset about. Sure SDC are a bunch of eejets but they were kicked, not worth getting hung up on. Just bear in mind for future reference that the offending CMDRs are nobs and move on.

The car analogy was a reply to JuicerPrime's comment not yours, I think it was a good analogy to what he was saying.

By the way, am I the only one expecting a huge ragestorm coming from Mobius when the new AI hits? I get the impression that the average Mobius player might be more succeptible to 'npc-griefing' than Open players, as players in Open have to be more alert in general. Right now the anger of Mobius players is at PvP cmdrs but thats only because the AI doesnt pose much of a threat. Once AI learns to boost properly and 'submit and boost' isn't a fix-all for every pve situation things might get ugly over there, and they may have to learn the basics every Open cmdr already has to know. Interesting question: once AI becomes (close to) as dangerous as human players, how many of the Mobius guys who do not ragequit will chose to stay in Mobius? After all, most of the 'griefer-anxiety' is greatly mitigated by some basic skills, and once you've learned them Open isnt nearly as scary as some make it out to be...

All the opposite: a more dangerous AI is quite a feature for PvE players...
And by the way, a computer can be a much more dangerous opponent than any human, if meant to be so by its programmer.

I suppose once the Thargoids arrive we'll have plenty of PVE group content.

As I've said, to you, it's not a big deal, to others it is. Your not going to change my opinion on that any more then I am going to change yours.

I've gone days, even weeks without getting shot at (and I've never left the "bubble"). Some explorers and traders have gone months without being shot at, so no, I don't agree that it happens "ALL THE TIME" or that it's a fundamental part of the "core game".

I'm all for a tougher AI. People seem to think that us PvE guys are totally against combat.

Well, we're not. We just don't like confrontations with humans because, well, that could be for any number of reasons. For me it's because I've already had to take so much :) in my life, from so many people using me daily as a punching bag both at school & at home, that I just don't want to be involved in so much as even "friendly competition" with other players. I've even stopped playing WoT altogether because I just can't stand being in any kind of confrontation with someone else now. I want my games to be a totally friendly affair, and if playing in solo is what I have to do to get that, then I will play in solo.

I've got over 3,000 hours in Skyrim, another few hundred in other single-player games. I think I can cope with not seeing other players at all in solo if it means I don't have to confront them. ;)

Sorry don't believe that, maybe if you logon once a month or just stay docked at the station all month.

Ships shooting at you isn't a fundamental part of ED? ok.

You keep saying that, ignoring the fact that obviously, it IS big deal to many people since this topic keeps coming up. You not caring much about it doesn't change how important it is to many, many others.

Well it's not unheard of that people get upset about minor issues that when you step back and look really aren't actually that big of a deal.

You joined 4 weeks ago, even during that short time you must have seen quite a bit of this on the forum.

:pJust because you don't believe it doesn't make it untrue.

And really? If I decided to go to the outer reaches of the galaxy (which would take some time) I should expect to get get shot at routinely?

Boy them Pvp'ers are everywhere, huh? :p
