This wasn't planned. It started off with 2 or 3 of us taking a few photos of the black hole. But on Sunday there are official photo and video meetups at Sag-A* starting at 16:30 gametime for both Euro and US groups. We're going to gather there prior to the key launch event from Armstrong Landing at 18:00.
52 players in one instance is a record to be beat, and Sunday is the chance to do it
I've recently found myself with a surprising amount of time on my hands that I didn't have when this started. Is it still progressing and is it worth trying to catch up?
Shortly before this adventure began, Erimus directed us to a competition being held to find a suitable Earth-like system to act as the focus for a possible colonization Community Goal. The data-collection stage is over, and Walt is slaving over the entries to put together a 2-stage community vote for the winners. Stage 1 will winnow down the 35 suitable entries to 10. Stage 2 will pick 4 winners from among those 10.
Those 35 systems were submitted by a total of 26 Commanders, of which 5 are on the Distant Worlds roster:
CMDR Grebenkov
CMDR Herzbube
CMDR Jak (forum: Jhyrryl)
CMDR Mimus
CMDR Shadowski
I don't believe that the voting threads will reveal the identity of those who made submissions, preferring to let the submissions speak for themselves, but if you want to support your fleet members, a little research in the original thread should point you in the right direction.

"Easily Reachable" doesn't take into account my OCSD (Obsessive Compulsive Scanning Disorder) - I'll have resist checking each system and hope I don't notice too many stars out 300k+ ls >.< That and I don't have a great explorer ship. Current jump range is about 25lys with only about 5 full jumps before I'm running on fumes... I'm nearly back at Cubeo. See if I have enough to do something about that and head on out into the deep black.

I'm starting a casual A* Challenge run in about 8 hours; I expect to take about 10 more hours to get there than the current record holder, depending on how breaks in support of family go. You don't need to stop discovery scanning...just don't open that other window. It's wa-fer thin; I'm sure you can resist the temptation.

Time to learn a new skill then. Honk! -> Fuel & Scan Star -> Jump! I can do it! I can...! DAMNIT! That's the system map. Ohhh! An un-scanned star and it's only 417000ls away!
According to what a Developer has said openly [I used to have a link to the discussion but have since misplaced it] there is no theoretical upper limit to the number of cmdrs in an instance. There -is- a minimum limit of 32 which ensures that the game tries to fill existing instances as best it can. There are limiting factors though: the hosting client and the quality of the P2P connections to it will limit the number of cmdrs who can be hosted. I have no idea if the game is able to "slide" from one host to another (to make best use of more powerful and better connected clients).
Hi fellow explorer,
dunno where i supposed to write this, but due to emergency stop near a Neutron Star around WP6, my ASP suffered major hull and AMFU damage. I'm heading back to civilization and i don't think i'll have enough free time to reach back the rest of the fleet after the repairs.
If maximum player count in an instance is supposed to be 32, i would really like to hear from someone at Frontier how is it possible that there was 52 players in that Sag A photoshoot gathering?
I mean, was that some kind of "accident", or have you raised the player count without telling us?

Honk while diving down into its middle, then pull level about a second into your scoop, then pull straight back out a second later.
Jump as soon as the cooldown is over, even if you're still scooping.
You don't need to aim at your destination until you're already about 60% charged, so get away from the star's heat first.
If your tank drops below half, take a little more time down in the corona to top off, but never dip any deeper than is necessary to reach your scoop's maximum rate.
In a 33ly Asp, you can make between 2500-3000 LYs/hour, depending on how much you read the forums while sprinting.

Funny thing is, that the last ten waypoint-meetups were always problematic regarding the instancing. I seldom met more than 10-15 Commanders in an instance, and many commanders had to log off and on once or twice to get into a "filled" instance.
So what happened tonight is wonderful, great! I will be there on sunday hoping we can do it again.

I suspect that it has a lot to do with how people are friended. As time has gone on there's been more "crystallization" of friends lists. We started out mostly friending those in our own time zones, but everyone "friends" everyone they see at a meetup. That should make it easier for the system to say, "This lot all go together," rather than, "Well, there's this group of friends, and that group of friends, and these people over here. Then there's *this* guy who's bouncing around all over the place...so I'll just make 3 instances and put the grazer in one at random."
Hmm, I was trying to get into an instance with some of the other Python commanders the other day for a picture - it took me four tries (even with a wing beacon for the last couple) before it put my ship in the right instance. Perplexing stuff. I'm impressed that so many commanders were able to get into the same place.

I even check the system map while the FSD charges. If there are interesting things you can cancel the FSD. I don't quite align with dest so if it takes me a while I can still cancel without the jump automatically happening.
