Title: Pegasi Pirate War Protest Movement Gathers Pace

Description:

Dissent against the Pegasi Pirate War grew more insistent this week, as pressure group Peace In Pegasi (PIP) staged protests on Imperial worlds.

Since military action began in 3301 Imperial public opinion has shifted on continued intervention against the Kumo Crew. With three new Federal Navy bases opening on the edge of Imperial space at Carpaka, Concantae, and LPM 229, opinion has hardened against what some see as a reckless foreign adventure.

At a rally on Cubeo PIP organiser Ayberk Lorraine criticised the squandering of naval resources spent tackling the Kumo Crew:

“The argument that many billions of Imperial citizens are threatened by Archon Delaine doesn't stand up to scrutiny.” he said, “We have seen vast flows of refugees fleeing the war zone. The number of Imperials under the yoke of the Kumo Crew is now vanishingly small.

“No doubt emboldened by our Navy's complacency at home, the Federation is now posturing at our doorstep! This can no longer be tolerated – We demand an immediate end to the Pegasi Pirate War!”

Responding to protests in his home system of Concantae, leading Patron Alvin Holzmann offered support for the movement:

“President Hudson's expansionism forces me to agree with the sentiment of the crowds; the heart of our Empire could soon be threatened unless serious thought is taken to the disposition of our forces. I will make a statement later this week on the matter.”

It is understood that a Senate committee has been planned to discuss the future of the Pegasi Pirate War.

Note: I have used JaggedMallard's character "Alvin Holzmann" from the linked article that will be published on 10 March, if this is a problem please feel free to change the name of the Patron if necessary.

Feel free to use him, a bit of continuation is always nice.

Oh Ian was really hoping to see that Arcanonn article this week - I guess it was too near the knuckle :)

Or was it because of what I asked Zac to do the other day? ;)

In any case - keep an eye out for a token of the Canonn's gratitude in a week or so - your support for our story, and all the others posted here, is fantastic and much appreciated by me, and I know by many other people. O7 Sir.

Edit - It's not bribery at all. Definitely not. As editor-in-chief of so many news gathering organisations I know you are incorruptible :)

Thanks Ian, much appreciated o7

EDIT: Thank you for the thoughtful edits that made it into the version in-game Ian! I'm very pleased with that :)

At this point I am at a complete loss with regards to news.

We're not allowed to talk about powerplay. Except when we are. We can't use it to attempt to direct players, unless it's to fight expansions, but we can't comment on it later.

I ... I give up.

It's my pleasure :)

Obviously I can’t say too much without giving away future plot points, but we do have further plans for Professor Palin, which means it isn’t always possible to publish submissions that feature him and the UAs. Sorry about that!

No problem at all Ian - I am keenly aware of sailing close to the wind on some of the stuff submitted for the Canonn, and have been trying to do it in the least invasive way possible - not always easy when you don't see many stars in the sky to navigate by(!) - so that's absolutely fine. I didn't publish this story anywhere else; unlike some of the others I've done - only the stuff I linked on the original post obviously :)

All the best O7

Sorry for adding to the off topic clutter Ian (the next article I was wanting to do got put on hiatus for the time being), but a question: when an article is ultimately not chosen for print in Galnet is it possible you could post a short quip just stating why, even if it's as Obtuse as "this article's content infringes on current or planned storylines, we can't tell you what how or why but we can't print it"? I know I, and possibly other people who post in the hopes of contributing to Galnet would appreciate feedback so that way they have an idea of "ok this angle isn't good enough, what if I got at my idea from some other way?"

Title: Melt In The Mouth

Description:

"It was all going so well," remarked PanGalactic's maitre'd after the first service of space barnacle broth with Deuringas Truffles and Ochoeng Chilli, "until guests started melting".

Earlier that evening chef Oliver Gordon met rapturous applause as celebrities sampled the flamboyant restaurateurs latest creation, but as service finished events took a sinister turn.

"For a minute we thought we had overdone the chilli" said sous chef Cleo Sote, "but after wafer thin mints were served we knew something had gone terribly wrong as guests started dissolving at their tables."

One attending paramedic described the scene as something from a horror sim, quoting: "This is worse than the Cerberus Plague. Victims were literally being mopped from the floor."

Tests later revealed large quantities of barnacle flesh to be highly corrosive when eaten with Deuringas Truffles, the key garnish in the meal.

After facing copyright issues from Pan Galactic Mining Corp, the restaurant remains closed pending investigation by the Galactic Food Standards Agency. Oliver Gordon himself was unavailable for comment.

Title: Representing the Workers

Description: The Honourable Viscount von Flettner calls for all pilots loyal to the Empire to converge on HIP 35531 and support the expansion of the Empire League from HIP 34961 in their conflict against the local Workers' Party.

"The HIP 35531 Workers' Party is an oppressive regime that confines it's labourers in sparse settlements on isolated moons in conditions no better than slavery, with no recourse to legal representation and no greater power to enforce humane treatment of its labour force."

The viscount spoke from the bridge of his Clipper, the Laur's Pride, a shining example of the Imperial Naval Reserve in action. He continued: "The Empire of Achenar has a long history of embracing frontier settlers and showing them the honorable path. The Empire League chooses to extend their protection and representation to these workers."

At high intensity zones located around the system, Majestic Interdictors have been making their presence felt. The Duval's Pride, Faveol, and Hengist Duval have all appeared in orbit around the first and third planet over the course of the week. The HIP 34961 Empire League needs a swift victory in the terraforming system in order to further their expansion efforts elsewhere in the sector.

is it possible you could post a short quip just stating why

Unfortunately we just don’t have the time to enter into a dialogue over individual submissions. If there are small, objective issues with a submission (e.g. mentioning a particular character or organisation that we intend to use in our own story, or neglecting to include a location for publication), we will give feedback to that effect. But given the finite amount of time at our disposal, it isn’t possible for us to enter into a discussion about more complex or subjective issues. Ultimately, the best advice I can give is to refer to the guidelines at the top of this thread.
