The Canonn needs your help for our community goal!

Just wanted to thank The Canonn for a most enjoyable and profitable CG. I finally broke into the 15% bracket between 280 & 300 ton earlier tonight. Hopefully my 396 Tons will keep me in the top 15%. Less than 60,000 tons to go when I logged off a few minutes ago. Time for the Land Down Under to run the home stretch. My mining Python did rather well. She is set up to do battle as well as mining (C3 Beams are your friend when you let the ne'er-do-well get a full face blast and burst of a pair of C3 Beams & C2 Multi-Cannons  ). All of a sudden, they are trying to charge their Frame-Shift Drives LOL. Thanks again, hope we make Tier 4 so the good doctor will have a nice research station.

@runcible - that's a fantastic shift you've put in, thank you :)

And @GP40X - thank *u* - so glad you've had a good time and made plenty cash!

That's what it's all about! ;)

Sorry, I wont't be able to contribute anything more before the CG ends. But one question:
How do you get high amounts of Pd?
Yesterday I was mining in HIP 109169 and mostly got rocks with a maximum of 20% Pd.
I was venting everything including Pt and painite.
End of story: After 140 limpets I got some 60 tons of Pd.
How do you proceed if you don't get high yield rocks? Do you leave the instance and look for another location on the ring?

I've been keeping all three P's, since you'll run out of limpets before finding enough Palladium you might as well keep the other stuff and make more cash. Also if you're interdicted by player pirates they should let you keep the palladium if you feed them the other good stuff. Sometimes if I have a run of rubbish asteroids I'll leave the field and come right back and get better, not sure if it's just coincidence but it feels like it makes a difference.

Prevented from leaving space station by RL. GAME OVER or atleast CG for me :(

Tier for BH just kissing 5 but station is still 52,300 tonnes away from 4

I managed 340t (15%) and 2.6733 million (50%) bounty, unimpressive but I was there (when allowed).
So if you're considering joining the mining just do it for the cash if not the CANONN, please.

Right, that's me done. Limited play time but managed 400 tons. Actually I did that by extending said play time slightly each night. Think I may need to catch up on some sleep now

So, where are we now? Anyone got any screen shots?

It is better to mine metallic pristine rings, but to be honest I was roughly getting the same amounts of palladium as yourself, the best one rock yield I found was 51.24% (yay), which gave me 16t of palladium! As for the CG I got close to 450t of palladium mined and delivered, I was mining at Col 285 Sector IJ-E B13-1!

Ok, i think i have upset one of the factions in the systems :D (Varati ring lot) They have gone all hostile on me (might have something to do with the ~30million in bounties i have handed in so far [big grin]) and i noticed that their influence is zero last time i was online (last night). May be able to get an hour or so in before it ends, then maybe i should move on...
(This CG has been a lot of fun and very profitable for me, shame i could not contribute to the mining part but have no ship set up for that, and have yet to try mining anyway).

The very best thing you can do is wing up. With 2 CMDR's prospecting you get twice the roids prospected and you're twice as likely to find a Palladium rich rock. When you find one both of you get 100% of the contents. Same goes for more in a wing as well. It vastly increases your chances of a hold full of the required metal.

I had the same questions at the beginning of this CG, as already stated, if possible wing up with somebody. Don't reset the instance as it doesn't seem to do much. It is also a valid tactic not to use your prospectors immediately but to 'poke' the asteroid once, if the chunk shows pal. use a prospector. I was only able to participate quite late in the mining cg with 140t/2h on average (Python with 160t cargo space).

Standings CG 4 hours to go (12h cet)

poking the roid is something I never thougt of, thanks :)
I never actually winged, but if i did, would one prospector increase the yield for all wingmembers or must all members use a prospector?
Is it posslibe in in wing that e.g. one smaller ship would prospect and guide a big mining ship only to the valuable rocks?

I was in the same position just days ago, i did mine once.. maybe a year ago, before drones and such and got all the tips from this thread, so the thanks should go to the guys in here :). As for your questions as far as i understand it, yes to both, but i did only wing up once yesterday and we did take turns poking 'roid's and whoever found something would deploy a prospector. As far as i can tell the yield was the normal amount for a prospected 'roid. I hope some of the 'real' miner guys in here can confirm this.

all ships need prospectors for maximum spawn. what you get with a wing is more people prospecting (therefore finding better asteroids to mine in shorter time), and the possibility of a large ship fitting many collectors, collecting stuff while smaller ships are already prospecting the next rock. for exampel an anaconda and a asp mining wing. or an cutter and a FAS mining wing. etc.

As far as I'm aware even a player in the same instance as you but not in a wing will increase the yield of any roid they prospect for anyone in that instance. But 100% sure it works for wing mates.

And it's possible a Vulture (for example) could prospect a roid, hit 40% Palladium and then mine the roid along side the bigger ships even though it has no cargo space. The bigger ships can still scoop those fragments :) Finding a pilot wanting to do that though!

It's a big late but I recommend anyone looking for something to do this afternoon chip in to the mining for the reward tier. 1 tonne got me into the top 60% last night, that's a 1.2 million payout for minimum effort :)

Dang, one more thing i wish i'd known before this cg. You can easily destroy unwanted goods to keep them from being repeatedly picked up by your drones, by just downthrusting after release, the limpets will survive you crashing into them whereas the canisters get destroyed. Handy.

Last post from me before the CG ends...

I don't even know how close we are, but the rate of mining in this last 24 hours has been *ridiculous* and we're much closer now than I ever thought we'd get. And the Bountying, well - Tier 5 has been hit on that CG - that's incredible!

Everyone - if you dropped one tonne or 5000, cashed in a few thousand in bounties or millions - thank you so much. It's an incredible feat you've all achieved, whatever happens :D O7

I tried this, but couldn't seem to get it to work, either in my Asp or my Python.
