Formidine Rift... what is it?

I'm starting this post with in form I hate seeing "hi I'm 10's of thousand of light years away so could someone closer to my inspired idea execute this extremely complex and difficult task and get right back to me so I can bask in the credit. Thanking you in advance for your immediate cooperation."

For those who realized Salome was in Sol to make some observation a year ago from this coming monday on the equinox, how do you think she would have positioned her ship?
If possible at least should go to Sol on the equinox for a Salome party?

http://www.drewwagar.com/progress-report/profile-senator-kahina-tijani-loren/

The dark wheel symbol is official lore and why not hide something in plain sight like the 3 lines and angles encoded on the symbol.
Since that's there might there not be even more, like the top claw long short long could be morse for K, the three suns maybe form a line or heading, or a system with three suns in that relative sizes, the chinese dragon eating eating it's tail, the number of spines in groups, that extemporaneous looking dot under the dragon head by the first ring of the circle, the top foot resting on the big star or planet,,, Could be lots there like what do dragons have to do with Cassiopeia, is there a Cassiopeia k for example?

Would be nice to see screenshots from within Sol look towards Formidine and Cassiopeia to see what Salome saw on the equinox.

Somethings have to be done, no amount of math genius or reading will teach you to ride a bike.

I know go do it yourself is what I think when I see these posts but I've sworn to stay in the rift until forced to come back.

At least folks tear that symbol apart.

Sorry, but I wasn't suggesting that he do the work or anything along the lines with your opening statement. I've been looking into it a bit, but I'm not sure the CoR reference can be linked to this or not. I was simply stating that it might be a valid thing to look into, if someone chose to do so.

There is a constellation of Draco, if that means anything. Might be part of the puzzle, but most likely not.

I was responding to the thread not any person.
Oops sorry I didn't intend to quote you, wrong button.

I'm just inside the Perseus Arm right now, around 4,000 ly from Heat & Soul. Is anyone familiar with the bright star cluster that looks to be near Soul, when coming at it from Sol? I'm poking around on the map, I can't identify it.

A Rundown of hints/links/misc information

Will try my best to include everything.

Hints - Given by Drew and Pulled From Canon

Reorte to Riedquat Line From Elite: Reclamation; "Edge from the Galactic Arm. Take a line from Reorte to Riedquat to the edge of the arm... and keep going"

"Formidine" has been translated as "fear/dread", Drew confirms and says a clue. He also tells us to look into the Etymology of Khahina.

Drew references the "core" of the matter - Here
There may be other clues in the book as well, but none have panned out or been officially dubbed as clues.

Some relevant notes from Drew on Twitter
3/3/16:#FormidineRift. 1: Yes, it's in #Elitedangerous to be found. 2. You do not need Horizons. 3. Whether it's found depends on who goes looking.
3/7/16: @SystemSoundTM Well, the secret of the Formidine Rift is out there to be found, more about it may be revealed this year, if all goes well...

Acaelus Thorn found this tidbit from John Harper, author of And Here The Wheel;
"You don't know what I've seen. I've sailed beyond the Formidine Rift, seen the fleets of Octagonal ships blocking out the stars. I've stood on lost worlds, sterilised clean by the Thargoids and erased from humanity's maps. I've seen the graves from the Thargoid wars, countless headstones stretching beyond the curvature of the horizon, little spots of reflected light dottering the abandoned continent ..."

Hopefully this will help people who are new to the search :) Feels like Im missing something, may edit in the future.

As that line keeps being misquoted I have the book right next to me.

"Edge of the galactic arm. Take a line from Reorte to Riedquat to the edge of the arm and ... keep going."

Possibly something wasn't said.

Not mis-quoted, just didn't include the first part as I copied from my notes. I'll add it in :)

Thanks for putting it all together, Acheron. Repped!

Don't forget that the quote of the "core of the problem" was given as answer to people speculating. It might have perfectly been a hint to re-evaluate or to approach from another angle. I certainly would not be looking into the core now... Also, the RR line, Seven Veils, Formidine... These are all facts found in lore or in-game, but the reference to the core comes only from a post on the forum...

My biggest gripe is if what we are looking for is inside the Rift or past it. From the quotes of the book we have, I was going to head into it, but had completely forgotten about the quote from "And Here the Wheel", which does state that she went beyond the Formidine Rift...

I'm lost...

That is true, I don't consider the "core" as meaning the galactic core. I was mainly just including things that Drew had hinted at himself.. And as I stated, there are more clues in the book and in other lore, but none of those have specifically led to an answer. Such as Seven Veils, could be a clue, or just the name of the ship. We have theories on what it could hint to, but nothing concrete.

If that makes sense? Mainly just wanted to post relevant links and give a quick summary. But I may take the time to flush out the post more and include some of the other stuff. This thread is a beast to sift through xD

Any chance we can find out more on what actually happened to Emirus while in the formidine rift?

I understand that he has been asked not to say anything by FD so don't expect him to. Has anyone a link to the discovery in the forum on reddit or wherever? There might be a titbit of information in there. I cant find a thing.

Old sailors used to rely on rumors and hearsay to find new lands. Cant see how this is any different.

Good point ... I guess I was under the impression that the Dark Wheel symbol was fan fiction... but It is on Drews page ...

Just hauled this of Emiruses Galactic mapping page.

"The Far Bridge
Game map search ref. : Pria Eup TD-T d3-8 (Perseus Arm) to Preou Thio TX-U D2-12 (Outer Arm)
POI Type: Beacon (Navigational Waypoint)
A region of high star density between the Perseus Arm and the Outer Arm, approximately 8,000-10,000 LYs east of the Formidine Bridge. This bridge of stars allows for easy crossing of the Formidine Rift by ships with a jump-range of 25 LYs or higher. It's length of approximately 3,400 LYs makes it interesting for those travelers who decide to go corewards from the Rim."

So... That's where we can cross with 25 Ly ships. "Dark" places not needed.

Two things I've noticed:

1) Regarding Heart and Soul, it seems interesting that the IC 1805 Sector and IC 1848 Sector are so far off from where they should be. It's possible it's just a bug, given that we're looking for mysterious things, I think it's worth investigating.

2) Regarding the in-book hint of "you'll find coordinates at the end of the message"; It looks to me like the "meat" of the message is given, and then the character leans in, which could be taken as a hint that this part of the message is different. The next part of the message that we have, until the end, is mostly three sentences each divided into three parts by commas.

What’s there?

Wish I could tell you, but they edited my memory pretty good, took me long enough to stitch this lot back together.
Whatever it is, it’s something that Galcop, the Imps and the Feds don’t want us to see.
Good luck, and ... right on, Commander.

I know people have been looking into the last line, but is it possible we've been missing the greater context?

Completely agree. Rumors and hearsay are generally all we have to go on :)

Something happened to Erimus while he was exploring the rift? Interesting, guess I missed that.

A page back we speculate "Core" may be Heart & Soul Nebula ie at the core of humans ! Just an idea and interesting when you look up Heart and Soul in Latin you get "essential" a single word, Tried this in ROT13 and looking for it in Galmap, Got nothing so far o7

Also of note you can draw a line from Sol though the centre of the heart and soul using the gap as a "Gate way"

That's where I started my search, the Heart Nebula. But my mind was running with ideas and I spent less time there than I originally planned. I tend to take the hints and clues at face value, and just run around exploring different options. This leads to an erratic search, but may prove useful. I hope.

I've been thinking about some of the other passages in the book that may be clues, but I'm not making any connections at the moment. Some of the others around here are way better at that than I am :)

Pria Eup TD-T d3-8 is about 10000 lyr north-west not east of Plooe Thoi BW-J b36-0 Formidine crossing, so that's a typo or he had the map rotated 180 degress when he was looking at it or something.

Just read this entire thread from start to finish in the course of a couple hours. All I can say is...

WOW!!!

So we have a game with..
book lore that it stays true to,
characters from book lore active in the game,
mysteries that are so cryptic teams of people have spent years and still haven't solved them,
and MANY mysteries and related details,..

I'm glad I bought this game. Those who think this game is boring ^^^
