Elite boring?

The most substantial part of enjoying Elite: Dangerous, for me, is when to play - not how.

You sometimes you think - "i just want instant, movie-styled, fast paced action" - that is the best time to fire-up Call of Duty, or in my case, Battlefield 4.
For me, Elite Dangerous is best played when i feel like simply scanning unknown systems, observing celestial bodies, progressive personal goals like "how far out can i reach this time", and of course, simply being a pilot.

I remember when i first bought the game, the novelty sort of wore-off a bit as i got used to the mechanics, but you will find ways of "looking at the game", in the right "mood" and content - Especially DLC... Horizons looks awesome, and its crazy to think what else will come in the future.

Also, just give the game a rest for a while, i haven't played it in probably 3 or 4 months, until a couple of days ago, and I'm loving it!!!

You could also look into joining a group or clan, it will enhance the play ability, i can imagine.

Check out the Fuel Rats

Elite is one of those games where the fun is not handed to you on a plate - the more you progress, explore and upgrade, they more you are able to do, and the more likely/frequently events will happen to you - if its action your looking for, seek out other players, communities or area's of the world where players will probably gather.

Hope you get some more juice out of your copy of ED :)

No you can't, most of them are made up entirely because we can't even see most planets in other solar systems.

Any planets in these systems would be "made up", but how many planets there are, the orbits those planets follow, how far they are from the sun, type(s) or planets, etc is as realistic as FD can make it. Which isn't totally realistic as we just don't know all the variables. But it is done according to a set of rules that follows reality as closely as possible, given what we currently know and understand. Were we to actually able to go to Altair in a reasonable length of time (i.e. FTL), we would most likely find a different configuration than what is in ED. But it's likely the ED configuration would resemble it, but just not have everything that is actually there and most likely not quite in the same places for the planets that actually were there. Like I said, we just don't know enough of what goes into the actual making of a star system.

The grind, yes and once you get that big ship, then what?
I’m not saying elite is boring, I love the game, I just look forward to when we can grind past that point towards bigger things. Call me a megalomaniac but hail Fishbone ruler of the universe.

Boring enough to necro a three month old thread?

[redacted due to poor taste]

Where is the love?

edit: three months? More like a year.

If you're still playing in 2016 you're a lifer.

I've been playing since the beginning and I'm bored of it personally. The whole experience is very predictable and familiar.

im bored of it as well and horizons is just rubiish as of 2.0. nothing to do on planets. But then agtain i have more than 2000 hours in the game which is the highest ever ive ever had in any game. I Finally finished all my rank grinding and i am 20% towards elite trader. When i get that i will stp playing till june.

The key to any game mission, activity and engagement is whether or not we have the desire to extend a tendril of our awareness INTO it. If this mission or activity would entice you in this world to engage due to either the payout or other resultants is partly dependent on the Devs ability to seduce ones mind to do so and the players current ability to engage the non physical powermind within to move and engage the game's nonphysical realities. Boredom therefore arises proportional to the magnitude of ones current inability to do so.

Mission bugs or excessive difficulty levels tend to for many be a deal breaker for inner mind engagement.

2000 hours is enough to make almost anything boring.

Been playing for over half a year, with a little break the past few months because Dying Light ;)

I always find another challange, it's a sandbox open world game after all.
I grinded up to get about 700 million and a combat worthy Anaconda.
Up to that ship the challange had been beating bigger ships with my
Vulture and later the Python. Now with the anaconda, NPCs are no challange anymore,
so I find a new challange in beating players with combat worthy ships, multiple of them if I'm in the mood.

Oh, and exploration.. did about 1ook LY and still have seen only a timy fraction. I think boredom exists
in the opening poster;s mind because he chooses to let the game decide how he feels.
People who let their feelings depend on the world around them will never know what happiness is.
And very often these people become a burden to those who do know genuine happiness.
Its a bit selfish to let your happiness depend on what others do, or make.. but that's just my opinion. ;)

Oh man, this is so terrible, I can't believe I only got a couple of thousand hours out of this game. Devs, you must do something right away, or else I will not play for another 2000 hours!!!!!

I've been away from the game for a year for various reasons. I admit I was a bit disappointed with it on release but now it's something I play for hours each day.

I always have things to do, things to learn, goals to achieve. It might not be perfect but like Elite back in the day, it engages my imagination.

It probably helps that I've not stacked slave smuggling missions my way to a Corvette. (Not that I have any objection to anyone doing that). It's just I'd rather work my way towards it and enjoy the journey.

Hmm let me see, DK2 - Check.. BKgamer - Check, HOTAS check, Voice attack

Mentioning extra equipment and software that you spent good money on as something to counter a "boring" complaint isn't a good way to change his mind. Boils down to "spend more money, the game is great, promise!"

Oh... wow, just realized the age of the original post... Why did you guys do this to me?

It's a multiplayer game, none of us can be the hero or ruler of the universe because that would prevent others from becoming the hero.

I think there are workarounds for that though. Maybe FD already has things in the pipeline but I'd like to explore and discover another civilization, maybe humanoid, maybe not, maybe a planet with a primitive civilization or one much more advanced. Many players could experience variations of each of these, that Commander getting credit. And that is just for exploring, I could imagine similar changes to other activities.

A change like that in exploration could drive trade, piracy, war and human expansion storylines.

You should use your imagination: there's a whole universe inside that washing machine... ;)

[hehe]

Here I come on my monthly (or quarterly) pilgrimage, to see what has changed... well not much... in the waiting mode for me, but this post was worth the check in fee. :p

Last night I interdicted a player pirate in his Python chasing a trader around Lave in super cruise. He had around 2 million bounty. We dulled for a while but ultimately he blasted my canopy open but I got back to Lave station alive.

On Wednesday I decked my Cobra out for long range exploration. I headed out 500 or so LY to the Coalsack nebula and scanned a few water worlds. In amongst the thousands of dully named stars in the dark region I saw an Adder piloted by a commander called Steve. Over the comms I enquired as to how his exploring was going?

"Alwight?" says Steve before he hits the Jump button.

On my way back to civilised space I make a mistake and take a route through some brown dwarfs. My tank is empty and I have to roll the dice to make that one last jump hoping to get a scoopable star. I hit the jump button and I'm relieved to see a massive orange/white sun in front of me. I bask in it's warmth and head home.

Occasionally I get mad at this game, sometimes I find myself grinding for credits doing the most simple silly thing...but most days I do stuff no other game offers me... I always come back for more.

I do exactly the same.
