Okay... BEST hands down multipurpose?

Ben, how is combat in the MIV? Have you flown it in Open vs pirates/griefers?

If I may anwser: PvE its fine, better than one would expect when you read all the criticism. In PvP its just fodder, like most ships. I fly mine exclusively in Open, just make sure you're not interdicted. :)

In my price range I'd say Python if it weren't for the terrible jump range, so I think I'll have to say Asp.

I haven't been able to afford an Anaconda yet so I'm not sure but that ship seems like an even larger python but with good jump range.

Speed is life. So there are really only three ships in the game that have speed and give you multi-purpose capability. Cobra Mk III, Asp Explorer, and Federal Assault Ship with Cobra being my favorite. Since Horizons I've taken to only using multi-role ships in either Small or Medium sizes just for mission flexibility (I always carry an SRV bay now) and doing other activities on whim. Saves me from needed to go refit.

Agreed with the speed point. But...clipper? One of the fastest ships in the game? Even better internals than an AspE?

Apart from the fact that it cant land at outposts which restricts its use

I'll give you that is a PITA; tf it wasn't for the large size, I could forgive the sub-AspE jump range and use it for smuggling.

Still a truly excellent multi-role though. One of my faves for mining.

Also a large ship that can't dock at outposts making it decidedly un-multirole like.

Outpost docking isn't exactly an end-all-be-all of multirole, though. Still tons of big stations and planetside locations to work with. The only difference I felt multiroleing in a Clipper vs a Cobra was the lack of SEEING outposts, but certainly not in terms of what kind of missions or roles I could do.

If your doing it for powerplay I'd suggest a python.

Big hold for carrying the tokens, can land at an outpost only system and able to handle itself for undermining and expansion opportunities.

The only drawback is you'll run into difficulties if you go against other players

This man below has it right...

There's plenty of "multirole" material out there that doesn't need outposts. To the post I was replying on, it was unfair to call a FAS one of the "only 3 eligible multiroles" if you aren't going to mention the clipper. I can't see how the FAS is a multi-role to begin with, but the clipper will floor it in the majority of activities. Outposts aren't something I use unless doing smuggling stuff.

A good trade route will require outposts at some point, smuggling will require outposts at some point, rares will require outposts at some point, missions will require outposts at some point

Yes you can do stuff without outposts but you are limited

Is a large ship that cant go to an outpost a multirole ship - well yes it can be

Is a large ship the "best multirole" no because it cant do some stuff
.
.
As for the FAS

It can land on outposts, it has a good cargo capacity, it has a number of internal slots, it has a medium hardpoint - its major failing for multirole is a poor basic range

I wasn't arguing for a clipper being best multi-role. I was simply stating that it sounds daft to call the AspE, cobra and FAS the only 3 viable ships for multi-role, and forget the clipper exists. The FAS has an "okay" cargo capacity, but it's the only thing it really has that makes it multi-role.

Asp Explorer.

End of conversation.

Yeah, that's a pretty good bombshell to leave it on.

To be fair the thread is about the best multirole not which ships are viable multirole ships

However I don't agree that its ASP Explorer cobra and FAS, to me its ASP explorer and Keelback as the two best multirole ships with an Honourable mention to the Cobra IV
