Banning people for none standard names?

Especially those who agree to do exactly what they are asked AND say that they will make sure that others know to do the same.
Really mature.

Is it really the job of the DWE Discord Admins to make things unnecessarily unpleasant for others, because if that is the case give yourselves a big pat on the backs for a job well done.

Sadly that is an outright lie. Krollin outright stated that he "WOULD NOT" comply with the request to change his comms name. That is why he was kicked, because he was acting immature. ANY gaming comms you ever, and I mean EVER take part in REQUIRE you to use your ingame name in comms. This is necessary so you know who the heck you are talking to.

And yes Skurrock, I know that you ARE Krollin, and this whole thing sounds like you trying to stir discontent.

Broke his phone.
He said he wouldnt change it at first unless he was in that server which he is apart of a few, then they said they would ban people in a time limit, which he complied with, and he still got banned. Don't post unless you know ALL the facts of what went on. ;)

Literally everything you said is an outright lie.

Not only did he say he would change his name when and if he joined the DWE Discord, he was not acting immature. I was there for the entire conversation so if you want to keep talking complete FECAL MATTER you can discuss it with the other 6 people who were also in the channel at the time.

You want to know why people are SEVERELY IRRITATED off. It's because the admins posted an announcement stating that symbols instead of names wouldn't be tolerated after a certain time, Krollin changed his name to comply to this rule before the time and he still got banned anyway.

In addition to that, it's the overly prescriptive rules which have no use or basis in reality. Randomly added rules for no reason, barely contained bias from admins. You say it, someone on a power trip is probably doing it.

tl;dr stop talking out of your RECTUM .

The only person talking out of his rectum here is you, who are changing the facts suit your own narrative to make yourself look better. What I've said about the name still stands.

I suggest you go talk to the other 6 people who were in the channel at the time that Kancro came into the channel to chat. I have no vested interest in making Krollin look better or worse, I'm here for the dank memes.

The fact you either he or you cannot listen is your own problem. Seeing as how you weren't actually in the channel at the time I'd recommend you stop blindly assuming what you hear or are told is true. Assuming you aren't just shilling anyway.

p.s. since we have our own Discord with blackjack and hookers I don't see why you feel the need to prolong a dead discussion / argument.

Probably because I've known Kancro for quite some time and he's never given me a reason to doubt his word. I have also been a member of the Candy Channel since well before it moved to discord, and I've seen firsthand the extreme malcontent that is rampant in that channel, especially with you. Given my experience in the candy channel, I have EVERY REASON to believe Kancro's word over yours.

Then go and ask the other 6 people. I never said that Kancro did anything, on the contrary he was quite cordial.

Edit: missed spidey

I also couldn't care less what the DWE channel, neotron or grnberg is up to.

I am really surprised that someone who was not actually present at the time Kancro came on our Discord instance and mumbled threats about throwing people with "icons in name" out of the DWE instance is able to come up with a version of events that is so totally inaccurate.
I have at no time been active on the DWE instance with a nick that did not contain my Cmdr name, in compliance with DWE rules.
I did not say that I would never change my nick at all, quite the opposite in fact, I made it clear to Kancro that I would change it if I came on to the DWE instance.
I told Kancro that he should deal with issues with people on the the DWE instance on an individual basis on the DWE instance. I then told him that I would make sure that Candy Crew members would be told to respect the rules of the DWE instance when using it.

In return for this I was told to change my Discord nick within a certain time or be thrown out of the DWE instance. Even though neither Kancro nor NeoTron have any right to force me to change my Discord nick while not using the DWE instance I changed it to comply with their demands. 3 minutes later I was denied access to the DWE instance.
Just to make sure that the truth is 100% out there some time later Kancro came back to the Candy Crew instance and told all of us that banning me was a mistake and that I was welcome to come back. I am never going to make use of that.

At no time did Kancro speak to me privately.
I was never in breach of DWE rules in that instance.
I made it clear that I would respect DWE rules when on that instance.
I made it clear that I would ensure that Candy Crew members would comply with DWE rules when using that instance.
I even went so far as to pander to Kancro's wholly unreasonable demand that I change my nick regardless of which I am on within the timeframe set.
Despite me being respectful towards Kancro and complying with everything he had no right to demand of me I was thrown out of the DWE instance.

Kancro later admitted, on our instance, that he was wrong and said I could use the DWE instance again.
If you want I will copy the chat content from Discord that will confirm without a shadow of doubt that I have at no time lied about what happened. If I had, why would Kancro say I could come back?

I have never hidden my Cmdr name either, it is contained in my sig at the bottom of every single post I make.

Though history has shown that getting involved in something like this (even to calm the waters) is usually a mistake, I'm going to attempt it anyhow (yeah, I'm that kinda foolish). Please keep in mind that I've got no vested interest on either side- I luv ya all.

Basically the problem here isn't the people, it's the tool- Discord doesn't support user names per server, which I think everyone who uses it complains about. Here's the timeline:

The guys in the CC server were jacking around, and changed their user names to a bunch of symbols. One of them (who is completely unrepresented in this thread) responded to something on the DWE server in a text channel without realizing that he was appearing as the symbols he'd set up on the CC server. This was an honest mistake, and unintentional- he was not looking to sow a bunch of chaos. Anyhow, when the announcement came out that names with just symbols was not allowed (and that anyone with one would be banned beginning at 10:30 AM PST), he immediately changed his name back to normal- he was also very contrite and somewhat regretful that he'd upset the DWE folks. Two other folks who were active in the CC server did not change their names back immediately- they both felt that so long as they weren't posting in the channels on the DWE server, they were fine, and that should they want to post on DWE channels, they would abide by the ruling- they said as much. At that point, it appeared the issue had been laid to rest. Shortly after, Kancro came over to discuss it with us- I'm afraid that one of our folks took some offense that there seemed to be some cross-server bleed of rules, and asked (as politely as I'd expect an angry person to be) that the DWE server admins deal with issues there, and that he'd be sure to inform everyone on the CC server that they should abide by the DWE rules when posting there. Again, it seemed to be laid to rest. Around that time (within a few minutes) the user changed his name back to his 'normal' name. Then, at about 10:10 AM PST, the user in the CC server who had spoken to Kancro (and who had his name back to normal) was banned from the DWE server. The other user with a symbol name was not a member of the DWE server, so was unaffected. It was noted about this time that the ban happened even though the user had never posted in a text channel on DWE with an odd name, he'd changed his name back, AND that there were still 20 minutes left on the time deadline. This resulted in what you're looking at now- a bunch of angry posts on the forum. That's the timeline, from a neutral third party.

I know Kancro has been back to discuss this since this blew up here, and his efforts are greatly appreciated (even by the angered user).

Anyhow, I'd like to throw out some conjecture, and ask if this is the issue because it's quite likely this is something else all together, in a technical sense. In Discord, all the users names who are connected are shown in a box along the right hand side of the screen. Because all user names are shared across servers (something we cannot resolve), was the issue that he appeared in that list with an odd name? The assumption on the part of the user was that so long as he hadn't posted in the channels with a crazy name, he was doing no harm - the terminologies being used to describe all this (servers, channels, using) are somewhat vague when a tool like Discord is involved, as it's got a fair amount of bleed between servers. I'm sure that had someone come over and said "hey guys- we see this weird stuff in our user list, and it's making people nuts, can you deal with it?" the user in question would have reacted quite differently. He may have changed his name back immediately, he may have left the DWE server temporarily, who knows- I do know he wouldn't have become angry that it appeared the DWE server folks were trying to apply their rules across other servers. His main source of anger is that to all appearances, he did abide by the rules, before the deadline, and still was punished.

It's clear Discord has a few functionality issues that are sure to cause grief, but there's no reason to turn the shortfalls of that program into a civil war. In other words, don't make me turn this expedition around, you guys. I will- you just ask your mother. :)

I wanna add, that as far as i understood, the only reason that the user was banned, even before the deadline (which was rather short noticed, but that's a whole another topic), was, that he clearly stated, that he would not change his name, as he had no intentions of using the DWE server in the close future anyway. So the admins rightfully removed him. I really don't see the problem here. Except for Discord having some inconveniences of course.

Well, this underscores what I meant when I said the terminologies were not working - when the guy in CC server said 'use', he meant 'post in text channels or join voice channels'. I'm not sure he even realized that his user name was appearing in the right-side panel of everyone on the DWE server- it's something people tend to forget. The DWE guys may well be thinking that 'use' means to appear at all in user lists, so the two side aren't meeting in the middle- they're applying themselves to completely different situations. It's a misunderstanding, not an intent to cause problems.

GG, even if he stated that he wouldn't change his name which he didn't, he actually did change his name anyway and thus was breaking no rules.

What you all seem to be missing here is that actions =/= words and you banned someone who actually didn't even break any rules, and even better, did it before that rule was supposed to be enforced. So not really rightful removal...

Pretty sure banning / kicking people based on thought crime is a unwise course of action.

There's a reason why people think the DWE Discord management is totally backwards.

P.s. Krollin, you should probably change your Forum name lest you get banned ;P

I would love to be able to use my Cmdr name but it has been taken by someone who doesn't seem to use it.

The admins of DWE Discord have absolutely no right to tell me what nick I should be using when I am not actually using it, regardless of where that name shows up. Only the "owners" of Discord can do that,
