Well, I'll miss him. When I meet Cmdrs in open I prefer the ones that give me a hail and a short chat rather than those that just open up on whatever I'm flying with no indication of why they're doing so. I pretty much only play open and 99% of my encounters have been positive. To me PvP isn't an unannounced ambush, x v 1 (x > 1
). The whole point of playing humans is the richer experience that provides. Most of these 'I got ganked' threads seem to describe situations that are very far away from that. The Dangerous part only seems to apply to the guy that gets attacked...
Another example of Open v Group v Solo.
OPEN is for players who enjoy pvp, random encounters with other players and the risk of danger and loss.
GROUP is for like minded folks to set up their own informal rules and play together or alone under a particular social framework.
SOLO is exactly what it means. Single player game.

Myself and a colleague met a Cutter there once that tried to warm us up. Sadly instancing took its toll and split us up before it got interesting.
If if its the same guy he ran once my friend was airborne and his mates dropped into another instance. I got the short straw and ended up alone for a bit.
Also, my ship came under fire too but I dismissed it and it came back to me all healed. Which was nice.

Ok, I've had a quick cooldown on my way to the corner shop. I lost my cool, which doesn't happen often so I apologise for that.
I bought Elite back in September last year. I worked my way up to an ASP and was just setting off for a trip when a commander decided my ship looked better destroyed. That was in open too, six months ago. Set me back about two months since I had to sell it as I only had the ASP and rebuy. That was for no reason too, another unarmed exploration ship in Eravate.
Fast forward to today, and the work it has taken me to get to a trade/ exploration Python (also unarmed) us undone at great cost to me again for no reason
I was in my SRV recalling my ship to leave when this guy turned up and set me back four million credits for god knows what reason other than I was there. I'm annoyed, and suitably so. These are the only two encounters I've had in the PC open area. I wouldn't be so irked if there was cause behind it, but my ship was blown up for someone else's kicks entirely to my detriment ; he walks off Scott free, meanwhile in set back more hours than I can put in again right now.

That is clearly a lie considering you took the time to make another sob topic. If you're that upset over this situation to do that, you're definitely going to not enjoy someone like me being blunt about the whole situation.
So then why not say something like "Warning to all players there is a player lurking around [insert location] who KOS. I just lost a lot of time and money due to this jerk, so I'd like to extend a warning to everyone else in the area."
What that message did not include:
1. Another pointless Open/group/private discussion.

See that's the thing. Nobody, not me, not anyone else here has said "You can't call him a jerk!" because that person IS one. However just as you have every right to play how you want, so do they. So using slurs and acting as if you are entitled to a certain experience and posting yet ANOTHER damn thread on this just ticks some people like me of.
I have no problem with you playing solo or in groups. I have no problem with you being annoyed with how other people play. You cross the line when you act like people SHOULD play according to you or you'll run off into solo/group play where you would never interact with them anyways. Because one is just "man this sucks." and the other is "This sucks. Nobody should play like that."
That combined with the fact that you make it out to be some kind of dramatic exit "OH YEAH WELL I'LL JUST PLAY IN SOLO!" when all it is, is a little kid stomping up the stairs and slamming the door. Nobody in open, is going to miss a player who barely ever plays in open anyways.
So needless to say, nobody is going to miss you in open.

The non Anarchy systems make up less than 1% of the systems in the galaxy. So what the play in solo gang are saying is joy joy killing greifing or whatever you want to call it is OK because the vast amount of the playable area is lawless.
Maybe the pvp consequences system is long over due an overhaul. I blow up a ship in an Anarchy system.... So what..... I blow one up in the federation I get a few hundred creds fine and a record that goes away after a while...... So what. Meanwhile the other guy may be out of pocket millions or worst just plain old leaves the game for ever, less players mean less of an environment to play in for the rest of us.
I've been the other guy its not fun, but I expect a little of it but getting shot up in a Sidewinder by an Anaconda is not exactly cricket.

My definition of Open would more likely be: Play with people from around the world, where the encounter may be friendly or not-so-friendly.
I don't see why it has to be about "enjoying PvP" at all.
My definition of Group : Same as open, but members only. (Some rules may apply)

So instead of the long winded open vs solo debate that will go no where has anyone thought this attack may have been justified? Im not supporting any griefer group but I believe I have a few good points.
First it was recently mentioned that exploration is going to get dangerous soon and not a good idea to go out unarmed. Tons of tin hattery here but seriously if you know what is coming soon its a bad idea to be unarmed.
Second these are living beings you monsters!! So many are quick to go out there and destroy these beautiful stuctures and now complaining cause they got caught with their pants down??? What do you think is going to happen when the thargoids come? Barnacles were not placed there for your sole benifit of profit and you should be ashamed of yourself for "harvesting" them. I for one abhore this practice and do not condone the destruction of new life forms. I am not alone in this belief and appluade any efforts to stop those whom would destory these beautiful structures.
All seriousness OP was probably griefed because RP would have sent some sort of warning which sucks. I dont pvp myself but have considered starting a defence movement for the barnacle sites. Its just sad our only options are to shoot them.

In RP terms we "barnacle harvesters" are a lot more horrible than you imagine.
We are not killing the barnacles itself. we are deliberately shooting off its appendanges times and times again. Wait for them to grow back and shoot again.
Would this happen in guantanamo it would be called Torture.
On the other hand: the barnacles DO look more like a plant than an sentinent being. meaning: its like a REAL harvest. We harvest some kind of "fruits" off its stakes.
One could argue that tese lifefroms are especially designed to be exactly that: biological miners. And we are just replacing the ones that are the usually harvesting them (Thargoids anyone?).
And yes, for the OPs Killer i would assume that even the griefer that names himself after some magic book series had the courtesy to do a one-liner.
So its pretty much certain that the Killer is labled a "Griefer" correctly.
(Griefer in my book being a person that tries to destroy the fun of others to thrive on the frustration it iduces in the griefed one.)
