THE FUNNIEST MOVIE OF ALL TIME THREAD

To keep forum members sane while waiting for the next ED release etc....

I thought it might be fun to have a discussion on what you think the funniest movie of all time is.

Once we have a list I'll setup a poll and we can decide on our all time favourite.

Don't just post the title though, give it a bit of a synopsis on why you thing it's funny and maybe a link to a clip of it.

And don't forget to add your favourite line from the film.

BTW Please remember this is a family forum and any links etc should reflect that.

Ok Let's hear what you think is the funniest film of all time.

My vote is for.

Monty Python's Life of Brian.

For me it's the perfect blend of slapstick comedy, social and political commentary and satire.

My favourite line would be "This man commands a qwack legion" uttered by Michael Palin. Pure comic genius the way he and Graham Chapman play the characters.

Welease Bwian pt1
Welease Bwian pt2

The whole clip is perfect in every way. but Michaels reactions to John Cleese and the Centurions not understanding him because of his speech is brilliant.

Indeed - LoB is a tough one to beat.

Another classic would be Airplane!

So many quotable lines and the late great Leslie Nielsen.

[as the plane prepares to take off]
Hanging Lady: Nervous?
Ted Striker: Yes.
Hanging Lady: First time?
Ted Striker: No, I've been nervous lots of times.

OR...

Rumack: Captain, how soon can you land?
Captain Oveur: I can't tell.
Rumack: You can tell me. I'm a doctor.
Captain Oveur: No. I mean I'm just not sure.
Rumack: Well, can't you take a guess?
Captain Oveur: Well, not for another two hours.
Rumack: You can't take a guess for another two hours?

:D

Warm Bodies is the comedy film I've enjoyed most in recent years.

I'm not sure I'd call it the "funniest movie of all time" but it has a pleasant dark humour and a refreshing take on the zombie genre.

For anybody who's not aware of it the premise is that there has been a zombie apocalypse but some of the zombies are starting to slowly rediscover their emotions. It's about the psychological struggle of a particular zombie in this situation.

Another Monty Python for me: "The Meaning of Life"

The Mr. Creosote sketch cracks me up every time: "And finally, monsieur, a wafer-thin mint?"....

Going back to the early sixties, It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World was hilarious when I saw it as a kid!

Lots of worthy candidates so far. For me, the film I laughed most at when I first watched it was probably Airplane! That does not make it my favourite funny film but it does make it the funniest.

The Blues Brothers is a personal favourite.

What about Steve Martin before he went all melancholic: The Jerk, The Man With Two Brains, Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid.

The Man With Two Brains

Love that film, Hfuhruhurr and Uumellmahaye! Will have to dig it out for a re-watch now.

Dr. Michael Hfuhruhurr: Would you read that back to me? I'm afraid that might make me sound pompous to your readers.
Olsen: 'My brilliant research in brain transplantation is unsurpassed, and will probably make my name live beyond eternity'.
Dr. Michael Hfuhruhurr: Well, that's all right. Take out the 'probably'. It makes me sound wishy-washy.

Indeed. Those and Roxanne are some of my favourite films. They are also the reason Mr Martin will be forever forgiven for all the rubbish ones.
