The Formidine Rift - Part 2

Tinfoil time.

An interesting character in Greek mythology is Deino. Deino means 'Dread' or 'the dreadful anticipation of horror'.
Deino was one of three sisters called the Graeae, meaning 'old women", "grey ones", or "grey witches'.

Perseus (Greek hero with his own galactic arm) tricked/forced the Graeae to reveal the information he needed to kill Medusa (a Gorgon, sister of the Graeae).

Medusa was of course a nasty moster, although she had her reasons to be angry. The Medusa myth is said to originate from Berber religion.

If yo find Medusa in the Rift, you will need: A shield (reflective), a sword, wings, an invincibility helm and a sack (to carry the head). Good hunting.:D

Just re-read that particular section of the book. It was part of a larger briefing on what was going on in Alliance space. I think it may be as simple as the wording being such that it seems like the two things are related (the Reorte-Riedquat trade route and the Formidine Rift) but it can also be read in the sense that the two things are separate - there is a R-R trade route, and oh by the way some of the local pilots are talking about this Rift thing and disappearing ships. Probably done deliberately just to confuse us further. ;-)

My best guess is that Lave: Revolution was finished prior to Drew's Reclamation and that the entire Formidine reference in Stroud's book was intended as just a "shout out" to Drew and his earlier non-canon Oolite stories. I'd be willing to bet that at the time Revolution was completed there was no plan to include the Rift as an in-game location or the location of the Rift itself was retconned to it's current position.

Shinrarta Dezhra. Which can only be accessed if you are a Founder member or have gained at least one Elite rank. Which rather conflicts with the "no rank required" statement.

The theory of having to rank up with the Dark Wheel is also kind of debunked in the Children of Raxxla story which, I believe was written with Drew's blessing.

Hello cmdr's. I have been reading the thread for some time now and one thing that pop in mind is a trip from Reorte to Riedquat in supercruise with plenty of fuel and cruise as far as I can just to satisfy my curiosity. I'm at work and be home on the weekend and give it a go. Was just a thought. Fly safe☺ I would even try it out of SC from the Star or the last planet and aim for Reidquat and see what happens.

I did this and got as far as 0.51LY away from Reorte towards Riedquat which took about 2.5 hours. Was hoping to find a persistent POI. Commander Denneb also went from Riedquat away from Reorte (keeping it "on his six") to see if it was that way. No joy.

It's certainly worth exhausting all the theories though. Well done!

I've read about a Bovomit Badlands.

It says there are systems, which no one can get past, since FSD fails to take a lock on them.

Drew said that "Whether it's found - depends on who goes looking".

Kahina, went missing in July past year, and on board of her left ship, there was found a symbol of Dark Wheel.

Dark Wheel is "was a semi-legendary space unit, star-riders who made it their business to seek the truth behind the plethora of myths and romantic stories that filtered back from all corners of the Universe: fabulous cities, parallel worlds, time travellers, even planets that appeared to be the old ‘heaven’ of Earth legend." (from Wiki).

So, is it possible, that we need to become allied with Dark Wheel faction before setting off to searching that secret of Formidine Rift?

Possible but so far no evidence that this is the case. However, I went and got allied with the Dark Wheel and Pilots Federation in case they turn out to have an intetesting storyline later on.

And if I remember correctly it caused some mirth around the table at that briefing, suggesting either: (a) the military audience knew the cause of the ship disappearances (INRA base?- highly unlikely as INRA is supposedly a secret naval organisation with details not generally known even in genreral navy circles) or (b) the audience knew that the Rift wasn't in that location.

I'm not far from SCHAFEAU DX-N B6-0, what's been mapped as the end of the known rift line as far as I can tell, after spending the last week or so crossing the rift. What I'm wondering now is, where are all the other rifters? Which directions have you headed in? Can you start to show on a map/screenshot as to where you are now and I'll make sure I don't head in the same direction. (Although I know there's probably a lot of systems in the same direction as you but we might as well spread out a bit!)

I'm at work now but from what I know and the people I've added, we are all kind of spread out. Hopefully we can turn this into a large coordinated effort with the help of Erimus, as soon as he gets the green light on the communication Hub for us rifters.

Personally I'm nowhere near the Rift right now. I'm rebuilding my bank account to afford a rift-ready ship that can make the long jumps necessary to navigate the emptiness. I'm playing on Iron man rules (game save reset on ship destruction) so I'm on my way coreward to the neutron fields to grind credits and exploration rank. My current in-game goal is to achieve Elite in exploration with zero deaths and zero kills to my name so that I can legitimately report my rank as "Elite: Harmless" :)

There was some talk about Cassiopeia A previously. Why was it ruled out? Though it would seem odd for Cassiopeia to also be part of the recent Jeffress hunt if it was to play such an important role in the game. Or maybe that was the point... Have the Jeffress hunts been clues to the mystery of the rift also? (Drew has mentioned before, all things are 'related' in ED) I think a previous hunt included Prism, and now Cassiopeia. Even if Cassiopeia A doesn't exist in 3302 - theoretically it still exists in a position in the galaxy? (I think I'm starting to get space madness too! hah)

Certainly agree about looking into Cassiopeia. According to wikipedia, Cassiopeia A is also known as "Schedar" which is in the game, and not far from the bubble.

I had a similar line of thought a week ago and made this post:

  • Alpha Cassiopeiae i.e Schedar - just outside the bubble
  • Beta Cassiopeiae i.e Caph - inside the bubble and has port/stations
  • Delta Cassiopeiae i.e Ruchbah - inside the bubble and has ports/stations. One port called Elder city...
  • Gama Cassiopeiae - Couldn't find in game :(
  • Rho Cassiopeiae - In the rift. Explore if possible. Very far below the galactic plane.

Hmm i skip landing here me thinks..

Alpha Cassiopeiae and Cassiopeia A are two different objects.

Cassiopeia A is a supper nova remanent, about 11kly from Sol. Not in game, as far as I know. But if it is, it would be in the Rift region.
