Ships Which ships do you expect to see during season 2?

Which ships do you guys expect we will get during season 2?

My guess is that we won't see any new ships in 2.1, "Engineers", but perhaps a new SRV type.

In the 2.2 "Guardians" release the "Dolphin" and the "Beluga Liner" will probably make an appearance, being passenger ships and passenger gameplay being added with that release. There has also been talk about an "Independent Fighter", something I expect to be similar to the existing "Imperial Fighter" and "F63 Condor", ergo a craft for CQC and also an ideal addition for ship-launched fighters in the 2.2 release.

Being a very large ship, the "Panther Clipper" may come with 2.3, "Multicrew", showing the benefits of flying huge ships with friends.

After that, I have no idea. I doubt we will see the "Krait" anytime soon.

What do you guys think? And what do you expect?

Passenger ships are a good guess, although I expect only Dolphin to make it out in Horizons season. They will really shine once we have Water worlds accessible. Until then, I expect her/them to be a part of Guardians update.
Panther, I am almost sure she's going to make appearance, this year.
And I don't expect more than just the two fighters that are already in game, this year.

Sadly I don't see many possibilities for lots of new ships this season, at least beyond what we were promised.
I'd definitely like ships in some categories that need filling - long range jumpers for example. We need something between Asp and Anaconda. That gap in price leaves players with little choice.

Oh, yes, if we had something that could jump 40+LY around 50 million mark and a size of a Clipper, that would be divine. :)
I was looking at something around 30-35 :D Just being realistic. Maybe 40 in full lightweight build, why not. But you totally get my point. There's just not enough long jumpers in game in different price ranges.

I expect: Panther Clipper and maybe one of the Beluga or Dolphin. Possibly an extra fighter or two, in addition to the Condor and Imperial Fighter.

I'd love: an alternate explorer, too. It's currently about 60+% Asps and 30% Condas. A ship-launched craft that could ferry a small amount of cargo would be great (for large-pad craft to finish missions at outposts), but is probably not on the cards.

I would love to see the Panther Clipper to get released. The Cutter will work in the intern but that is the one I really want.

Your speculations seem solid enough.

I still want the Moray to be the next explorer... maybe with atmo landings since it's a space-worthy submarine... it could make for ossum funs

The man himself - David Braben - mentioned the Beluga as an upcoming large ship during the 1.4 launch stream (check out the video below, beginning at the 22:50 mark). Now, he didn't specifically say "during season 2", but given that the stream aired during the first season, I reckon "upcoming" wouldn't be used for ships more than one season away. Also, it was mentioned in some recent GalNet news article from February 28th (for some reason I can't access the GalNet webpage right now), where it was said the current Presidential Vessel - a modified Beluga - would be replaced by a Farragut battle cruiser.

Given those individual small hints, my guess is we will see the Beluga rather than the Dolphin during season 2, especially since the later hasn't been mentioned at all since KS, IIRC.

I also want the Beluga very much, so that desire might slightly cloud my judgement here :p

Yes, I was watching it. But as I understood it, they need ship-launched fighters first and later, when they also add shuttles, only THEN will Beluga make sense.
But yes, I ' need to get my hands on that ship, too!

I know it makes zero sense, given it can land on medium pads, but I want a shuttle in my hanger inside the Keelback.

[blah][blah][blah][blah]

somehow the idea of an "bucaneer orca" still sticks in my head.... could make a great piracy ship, and, with a bigger jumprange eventually, an amazing explorer... but i guess, getting passengers means getting the orca itself into play!

Regarding ship implementation I'd like to see more combat ships across the board with a wider array of lateral progression. I also think that combat ships NEED more heavily defined roles such as interceptors, gunships, bombers etc etc. An unfortunate knock on effect of this would be the requirement for a rework on a lot of the weapon systems, implementation of new weapon systems and, in all likelihood, a reworking of the way weapon hard-points work in the game.

I feel as though adding in more heavily defined roles for combat craft would have the added benefit of increasing the possibilities for mission based and event based content. It could potentially also increase the benefit of group based game-play to accomplish more unified objectives.

I realise my opinion is heavily biased given my only real role in this game is as a combat pilot / bounty hunter but I can't help look at the current roster and see a plethora of trading vessels and multirole vessels with an anaemic selection of combat craft.

yes, with 13 or 14 of 29 ships being combat ships, that role is really not represented well in terms of shipchoices. good, that another two are coming (fighters). maybe we can get rid of the two exploration ships, to get more combat vessels, only that that we might loose one interesting cold runner in that process.

First of all I'd like to apologise as, based on your inferred tone, I've clearly struck upon a delicate area. My response was simply based on my experiences of the game and I did stipulate I had a biased opinion based upon my primary gameplay style.

I am advocating a wider array of combat ships and their reworking on the whole to fill more unique roles in an attempt to generate a greater degree of lateral progression in the game for combat pilots and a more varied experience. The thread title is clear "Which ships do you expect to see during season 2?" arguably I've answered with a wishlist/critique of the current state of play, from my perspective, when it comes to combat ships.

You make out as though I'm advocating that ships should be removed or re-purposed purely for combat, at no point did I suggest this or allude to this.

At present the game is heavily populated with multi-role ships, I will concede that there is a strong selection of combat ships in the game at present although, arguably, a lot of multi-role vessels get considered to be combat ships too as opposed to being strictly multi-role.

I'd be curious to see your breakdown of the current ship roster to see where those in-game land as far as role goes.

I'll begin with another apology on my next point as I'm not intending to be insulting in any way, shape or form but I can't help but feel as though I need reiterate my main suggestion/argument at this stage. What I am advocating and suggesting is for a broader array of combat ships with reworked combat roles for a greater degree of specialty to enrich the gameplay experience.

Rightly or wrongly at present I see the selection of trade ships offered covering a fair selection for the role, I also see a lot of multi-role vessels offering great flexibility of purpose. From my perspective the game lacks combat vessels and, in honesty, it's lacking exploration vessels.

sorry, that i was that short-lipped - i read your post, and read your disclaimer of perspective, and simply thought it was quite funny. obviously we all want to see more ships for the activities we like to play in game.

i have to say, that, concerning combat, while i'd like to see more ships there as everywhere, I'm very impressed about the variety of role you can get via outfitting. even a non-combat ship like the DBE can make an interesting combat-ship in the role of an ambush-torpedo boat (and is used for that by some commanders with impressive skill). or the imperial courier, which can get very tanky for such a small ship, but also can get very fast for intercepting if kept lightweight. so, the roles you are thinking of are to some extend probably buildable via outfitting.

if i scroll through the list, i'd classify the following as combat ships: Eagle, Imperial Eagle, Viper MK III, Diamonback Scout, Asp Scout, Vulture, Federal Dropship, Federal Gunship, Federal Assault Ship, Fer-De-Lance, Imperial Cutter, Federal Corvette, plus - debateable - Imperial Courier (at least Combat with very restricted Multirole-Ability), Imperial Clipper (chosen combat ship of many CMDR's till 1.5.), Viper MK IV. most of them can be outfitted for a variety of combat-roles.

anyway, thread was about a wishlist or expectation. i actually don't expect to see more ships beyon the fighters, and maybe a panther clipper, an probably a passenger, and maybe, maybe a redesign like an bucaneer orca. actually, i think we can get quite far with the ships we have, and others things are more important.

What we need is more cool running long jumpers - atm it's either Conda, Asp or "you went there in what?"

Imperial Explorer. Roughly 60-70% clipper size. Jump range comparable to Conda. One can dream...

Agree, but 2.2 is the release where we get ship-launched fighters. From newsletter #110:
2.2 – Guardians
Coming Summer 2016
Take what comes and strike back with double. Bring a second ship to every combat encounter with Ship-Launched Fighters and defend your passengers against the deadliest threats in the galaxy.

So it would make perfect sense to bring in a ship at the same time whose main purpose is passenger transport and that heavily relies on ship-launched fighters, no?
