Ramming NPC just lost me my wingmate!!!

The ramming is a bug. Come back after 2.1 drops.

It sure is a bug, which was not around before the latest update. So they introduce this bug and then state that they are aware and would fix it in the next update, which was like months away at the time! Why wait months? And top of all that they then delay the 2.1 update, so now its more like 4-5 months of waiting to fix this bug. Seems way too long.

Not trying to be negative here, just confused as to why a patch cant be released a week or two later (at most) to address, bugs introduced in a new update.

Well it would seem to me to say it isn't as simple as going into the code and changing a variable called "NPCramming", so yeah....what do we know, how easy it is to fix or not :/

The ramming/bounty has finally hit me.
Last night trying out a new ship in low Res, I exit SC, see lasers close by, go towards them.
Drawing near, hear the computer tell me a scan's initiated, see a blob hurtling towards me, I try to lock on, hear a ping, hear an explosion, gain 6000Cr bounty for murder. All ships turn red, I bail out, went to Haz Res instead
All this occurred within 10 seconds of me exiting SC.
Pirate Asp smashes into my hull, dies, and I get the bounty.
*Golf clap.*

If those are security ships while scanning - this will be fixed in 2.1.
If those are accidental crashes - it will happen, NPCs aren't flied by ace pilots.
To play ED one needs calm mind, not throwing toys out when first 2M sting comes.

I spent months enthusing to my brother about ED, I eventually bought it for him, he still didn't really play....Then eventually he caught the bug. We became wing mates, we ruled the galaxy (had fun!)...now he has dumped ED completely in utter disgust...why?
.

Because of the stupid ramming actions by NPC flyers whenever you remain stationary in space for any length of time!!
.
Because after doing just one more Community Goal and this happening...., in a Nav Beacon area having farmed bounties for two+ hours and with 2 million+ creds on board, he put up the system map up for a second... and BAM!!! NPC rams his rear, dies!, and my brother is now wanted for murder! everyone turns red and opens up. Not only that but he is now unable to go to the station running the CG because he has a bounty on his head......
.
So he has had enough of the twisted NPC "logic" of them ramming whenever you slow things down or momentarily place your attention elsewhere...
.
Thanks FD!

Its as if some dev gave their kid in a high school software dev shop this project to do. And they cant be bothered to fix it. And why not, anytime there is any kind of bug or completely goofy mechanic that arises that countless CMDRs comment on you have 25 fanbois rushing to give 35 different validations to why its there. Steam however reveals a different response.

The only time this ram and scan works for me is when im stalking a wing of 3 in high res and rather than having to target one or two of them via ramming; they do it for me.

This unsolved mechanic ( could be an intended mech to express just how daaaangerous it is in ED) and is just another expression to how the phil of this dev clan places non paying NPCs hierarchically higher than CMDRs. If you rammed an unwanted ship and killed them, not only would you be paying you would be banned from that system for a week in a way that squelches your regular activities. I have yet to see any security forces pay for any ship damage for their handy work.
They can also get away with friendly fire without even a wink of issue.

Oh, it's quite easy:

1. NPC ramming: This hasn't occured that much in the beginning. Solution: Roll back AI code
2. Speeding/Bounty mechanic: Was not present at the beginning and people were fine with it. Since it was introduced, everyone is complaining. Solution: Roll back bounty/speeding code.

Since the game evolved in other aspects, the code has to be verified to work in the current version. I guess it's less than one working day for the proper fix, and after that two weeks of testing in BETA before rolling out to live.

CMDR hems303 this is 100% a highjack!

I assume the cartridge in your signature is a 7.62x54r? correct comrade? :)
just curious

I collect and shoot military firearms as well as other costly hobbies, this game is bargain for me :D

Hi CMDR OLd_Sarg

No Highjack, pleased to answer:
.
I also hold a Firearms Certificate (UK) and collect/shoot mil spec firearms: The cartridge in my sig is my VERY favourite round that I shoot from my 1944 Lee Enfield sniper rifle...i.e. the ubiquitous .303 British round (hence my tag "hems303") (not the 7.62 it's offspring)

Why do people keep saying "ramming is a combat move"?
Its not ships I'm in combat with that RAM me every time i dock or launch or stop to read my contacts. Its security ships mostly. They smash into me at 200ms then tell me "everything is fine, continue on Commander".
Its a stupid annoying bug that needs fixing.
Its been happening since 1.5/2.0

Also i love the "it doesn't happen to me so therefore it doesn't happen at all" logic.

Shoddy NPC AI. Basically, they're set to close the distance with a scan target as quickly as possible. However, they're too dumb to account for inertia after their I CAN BOOSTING!!! pursuit.

Point 2 is simply not true.

There used to be posts about turning the windscreen wipers on clear the nubie sidewinders off the Anaconda when docking. There was much haha from large ship pilots and nashing of teeth from smaller craft pilots.

The Speeding Penalty was added and the speed set so that in most cases only a speeding PC could cause damage to get a murder bounty.. Granted this does not cover the scenario the OP describes with the speeding NPC turning the stationary player wanted, but your solution would simply re-introduce the old problem the speed limit was introduced to fix.

As for point (1) I am somewhat on the fence. 1.4 NPCs were better than 1.3 NPCs, but overall I am not sure the changes in 1.5. added to much. I hope that NPCs are being addressed in 2.1. On balance, better to go forward and use development resource already committed than roll back. If there are no NPC improvements then for point (1) rollback and try again may be the best approach.

These scan-ramming NPCs are something I deal with in a daily basis. Sometimes amusing (when in combat zones, etc), sometimes annoying (when being ticketed for reckless flying or flagged as a murderer - regardless whether I was moving at all to begin with).

How to test and reproduce this bug? Just park your ship anywhere near other ships - one of them is bound to scan-ram you eventually.

I've lost 12 ships so far. I'm not really counting, but it's usually for stupid stuff like taking on a Python. I don't mind losing ships and blowing up, it's kind of exciting watching my ship lose its shields and the last thing I hear is "abandon ship". LOL Of course it does hlep to have 13M in credits when it happens.

Ah... those valiant NPC suicidal scanners are up to no good again...

More ram dodging practice for me.

Sort of wishing at times there was an eye-for-eye rule in this NPC rammage - they ram you, you're free to ram them back (without impunity) :D

The ramming is actually a method of ship determination for those NPC's that have diminished vision or sensor malfunction.... they collide with your ship and the 'clang' it makes varies depending on ship model and modules fitted
It's known as a "Hull Resonance Scan"
Its all very simple and straightforward....

Ramming NPCs broke my game! BAD BAD BAD GAME!
maxresdefault.jpg

I suppose nothing would be changed till 2.1 update.

back to the NPC ramming I am glad this will be fixed soon.

My poor little Cobra III took a huge hit last night (3 rings to 27% [blah]) it made me go back to a station I was just clearing, not a big deal I had just dropped the last of my cargo, it is interesting that you have to run from the the Police even if your finally not wanted ;) .

Sorry, but you just have to accept this kind of thing and work with it. Personally. If I need to look at a map I check there are no other ships near me, or even jump into SC for a couple of seconds, to be clear of them as some pilots are pretty careless.
I also try not to have more than I can afford to lose on a ship at any one time. Once I've farmed a couple of million in bounties, I go to the station and cash in. You can stay out longer, but the amount you risk by doing so goes up.

Look on it this way. What conclusions would you draw about someone who decided to park their car on a motorway in order to read a map?
