Legal log out

......The bottom line here, the real question we need to ask a developer, is: "Should I be able to log out in the middle of a fight to avoid a re-buy screen."
If you honestly believe that their answer would be yes, then I really don't know what else to say.
Nim

I believe the developer's answer is,"Yes."

Logging out via menu comes at a cost to any player who chooses to use it while under fire; the attacking player has 15 seconds to destroy the logging ship, or at least give it extreme damage. Logging out via menu has been clearly defined, many times over in this thread, as a game-legal option to take. If any combat player considers anyone who uses that game-legal option as poor sport, don't play with that commander again.

The 15 second log out option should be increased to 60 seconds in Combat and if you get hit it resets.

Nah, 30 seconds would be fine, but add in a single button emergency jump that will send you to a random system out of harms way (but within the jump range of your ship) without having to pick a planet & face the target would suit both sides of the argument I think.

It is ridiculously easy to escape combat as is now, we don't need any more magic buttons.

As to the OP, you're a scumbag.

Agreed; high-wake should involve manual nav (as it currently does) but I question that ease of escape should even being seen a bad thing. Seems like a good thing to me. Someone runs, that means you won! And the other pilot doesn't suffer their worst case scenario but is forced to go far out of their way and try to reach repairs. And the wake-scanner features aren't useless, etc.
Are you losing anything if your opponent runs? Usually just a few piddly bounty credits, if that. In some cases (such as working towards a powerplay objective) getting a kill does advance you, but in many cases forcing them to flee is a perfectly good win and you're not losing anything.
The ease of escape makes an actual kill more challenging than forcing them to flee, and that should clearly be true, even if the exact level of difficulty is up for debate.

If you're playing Mortal Kombat, the goal of a match is simply victory - to be last (wo)man standing. A win by fatality is a bonus that is intentionally more difficult to achieve, and not achieving a fatality isn't something that you get upset about.

I get the feeling that some people feel robbed if their opponent runs. I'd like to gently suggest that while this can partly be blamed on the game, part of it is also an "issue between chair and keyboard" and that's something that can be changed without needing to wait for FDev's assistance. :)

Kills should be hard.

Pirates earn by stealing cargo. But all the trader's cargo is destroyed if you kill them.
As long as they're alive, they still have cargo to plunder, and you still have opportunity to force them to yield cargo. Yarrr!!! :D

Ah I see this thread is still going, people still defending the ops actions? Combat logging is distasteful, funnier when you are bullying the traders you log out when someone almost kills you. Proper school yard bully tactics of, I'll hit the smaller kid but when the his brother backs him up I'll run off.

I have a confession to make.

I have "legally log out" once.

I'm so sorry.

Before you hit me with something, let me explain!

I was still a noob, I think I was flying my first Viper. So then this Fer-De-Lance guy came after me for some reason and interdicted me (which was really weird btw, the interdiction meter filled INSTANTLY, I think it was a bug or lag.) I went for the fight, realised that I can't fight it and low-waked out. That was a mistake, because the same guy interdicted me again and tried to shoot me.. And again I low-waked. After the third (INSTANT) interdiction I boosted away as far as possible and waited the 15 seconds. He couldn't kill me in time.

I remember being so frustrated of getting instantly interdicted every time I had to just log out.

Now that I'm wiser I know about high-waking so I won't be doing the same mistake anymore. I just hope that I don't have to see that interdiction meter instantly fill up again for some reason.

You're absolved. Say 3 "Right On Commanders" and do a suicidewinder.

Sure it was in the rules, still I care not for the 15 second timer, learn to highwake...

Agreed - clearly within the rules, and also not playing as politely as you can play; it's less respectful to the other player than you could be.

If you are a seal being clubbed, then the other player has already set a tone of not being very respectful to you, so all is fair, use whatever you can, but when you're the seal-clubber... AND you use the timer (instead of fleeing) because you bit off more baby-seal than you could chew, haha, well, there's nothing wrong with being a joke, it's legal, but things will work out better in the long-run if you admit you have a problem and attempt some self-improvement :D

Wut? If you're a pirate, then you can still win unless you kill them.

Wasn't talking about killing, was talking about the ease of escaping. Pirates indeed need the target to stay alive at least for as long as they haven't gotten paid, but that doesn't change the fact that they still require the target to not be able to run away as easily as is currently the case. In that regard they're in the exact same boat as bounty hunters, who do need to kill to get paid. Both professions can't just be satisfied with the moral victory over a fleeing enemy.

Well, then if I don't play whitin YOUR rules (not FDev rules, only your rules) then is valid call me coward, cancer, dishonored, gay (only an idiot use it like an insult), bacteria, , now scumbag, and more... And write my name in your KOS list (oh mom, I'm scared) like a little mafia. You are the real shame of elite dangerous.

I hear "I think...", "in my opinion..." but really u don't have any other argument. And I can respect an opinion but when follows an insult only shows the kind of person you are, and obviously your opinion goes to thrash.

Play less, and learn more about how adults talks, and I really wish that you live side by side with people with ur polite level.
