Great New Article About Elite Dangerous

I read somewhere recently that MS is going to allow for cross platform play. Don't know if and when but be better if xbox players could play with the rest of us.

Its not hysteria but a reflection of my experience having been here for a long time. FD appear to bend over backwards for the risk adverse. As if the solo and pg system aren't a big enough example there countless decision choices they've made to water down player jeopardy in Open. I'm really too tired to list them all right now but theres a lot.

But just to see how priviledged this group is lets recap on what happened. A few people went and killed a handful of players. Naughty boys for sure, so they get kicked and thats the end of it? Not on your nelly, instead we have epic threads of streaming oceans of tears resulting in a new harrassment policy. All because a few players got killed? Seems a little out of proportion no?

You know for private group which represents a tiny fractino of the player base they sure do get a lot of attention. I doubt anything in game will ever see the light of day if those guys don't give it the nod.

You realize it started because the perpetrator bragged about it and made Youtube video and post on Reddit, with a really poor answer from Community Management?

But this is easily fixed by kicking the offender. Sure at the time he had to engage Frontier due to bugs, but ultimately the power there lies with Mobius.
At the time the power didn't lie with Mobius. Now that the group has been split, he can again kick offenders. That still doesn't move the blame from SDC to him.

Powerplay, when fixed, should be the way to do that and I wish FDev realizes that it should be Open only.

9 base factions are not very intriguing to me.
Don't get me wrong, i did alot of pp in the early cycles and generally did enjoy
winging up and having a common goal as a unity of players.
But i don't think only the big players deserve attention.

First and foremost the BGS has to be touched.
Imagine how hard it is for a minor faction to actually kick out the pp-alignment of a pp-faction?
Impossible, unless an active player group unites.
But then it has to post content for FD's (posts/stories) galnet entries,
and the whole system has to be flipped manually.

PP is a problem, since it operates on a separate level of simulation,
apart from minor faction's votes and influence.

Surely exactly the same could be said about PVE players having PVP thrust upon them.

Of course. I'm not saying that PVE players should get PVP on them, but that can be prevented since private groups have admins(?) who can kick people out if they're acting against their rules. But can it be 100% prevented all times? No, not with current settings. Still, there's a way to prevent some of it.

But other way around there are no admins (well except for FD) that can tell the Private players to stop whatever they're doing that is hurting a group of players who aren't even in the Private player group. There's no way to prevent "harassing" this way.

I'm trying to not take sides here. SDC can shooty shooty all they want in Open and PVE private groups should be left alone from PVP if that's what they desire.

If any of you SDC guys read this, if you're attacking a newbie, please tell them why are you doing this. Educate them. Since some of you are EVE players, I know you value newbros as a good commodity, and I think in Elite newbros are also a very good commodity! :) And if we ever meet, let's battle. I'm all up for it! oh god they're gonna kill me now

Eh, who's blaming Mr. Mobius for anything?

You're arguing against some imagined point there.

I've begun to share your sentiment lately.

This kinda highlights my point about the priviledge and the lobbying. Zac's first response on the subject seemed fine to me, I suspect he wondered what all the fuss was about. Naughty boys got kicked from the group, should have been the end of it. But no peeps seem to get offended by that video and that sparked the huge drama. I got to say I don't think I've ever been a member of an online gaming community that is so earily offended and sensitive.

Well, we were supposed to have minor power at some point. Which should have addressed your point.
But I was really disappointed to hear, during the last stream, that additional/minor powers implementation was "frozen" as of today. Bummer News :(

That really is sad to hear!
I wonder how much data FD would have to process for integrating minor factions accordingly.
Imagine just 4 minor factions per system, the numbers rise fast!

Well then off to burn the whole system,
before Hudson keeps his grimey hands on it.

I tried to warn you about your utter lack of sarcasm mastery during your first streamed PR stunt. You didn't listen.
I'm terribly sorry to break the news, but if the comedian and his 5 buddies are the only ones laughing at his jokes, he's simply not funny.

Simple concept. If you want to entertain, be funny. Show mastery of wit, not the parody of it. A witless clown is a "fool" since the middle ages.
A working concept for entertainment, too ... look at the Fox video and it's bazillion of views (do you think I link that stuff by accident?). That is not SDC, though.

My statement is an observation, if you take it as an insult all you do is deprive yourself of an opportunity to learn.

Night night and good luck with the T9 run.
The bus is a splendid ship. Not nearly as coffin-ish as a T7 but I guess some of you read Adle's tests on hull hardness. :D

i wasnt even there for the PR stunt. i have no idea what you are even talking about nor do i care, i'm just saying that you keep slightly poking with insults and beating a dead horse with this "remember wolfsburg" thing.

ill have fun with the t9 run, we all wing, we are rich anyway deaths doesnt matter.

and we've known about the rail dmg distribution far before AA posted their tests results.

Really? I didn't know that. It would make sense though - as the system as it stands makes little sense. Player factions need to tie into the greater Powerplay mechanic, which itself - I'm my humble opinion - needs a complete rebuild and reboot anyway.

Sometimes I think FD would be best off with a complete galaxy wipe and re-seed - letting players keep what "progress" they have made, but giving us a fresh galaxy free of so much bugginess and a Powerplay scheme that actually makes sense within (and outside) the bubble.

The answer seemed fine to you.

Now put yourself in the shoes of people managing PGs and hearing that FDev would not do anything if people decide to create havoc in their group and repeat the offense.

Try to picture that the initial lack of rule clarification, by FDev, was felt as an open invitation for any jerk to do/repeat what happened and that no action would be taken.

See the problem now?

To sum up the problem in my opinion:
Private groups are used as a means to regulate the ruleset of the game,
which never was the design-goal of a pg.

Now just take that as a neutral summary, without any notation of leaning towards any certain playstyle preference.

Totally agree with you. In my opinion, it's exactly as some posters wrote few pages before.

Too much angelism on Fdev side. Believing that the Solo, PG and Open would allow somehow good balance in PVP/PVE players ecosystem due to the possibility to jump from one mode to another.

But that's the problem with trade-off solution, sometimes it satisfies no-one.

It's kinda of odd that point was missing from the article I mean I think it's an important one.

A large organised group removed a PvP player group from a system while essentially being invulnerable. With the target player group being totally unable to defend themselves using their preferred play style.

It's kinda stupid when you think about it, and to me seems like the bigger "abuse" than dropping into Mobius to shoot players, something which Mobius ultimately has the power to prevent.

This is absolute nonsense.

Firstly, the player group is not organised. Some members, and others who are not members chose a course of action and organised themselves in the forums. They played the rules of the game to adjust the BGS. SDC had exactly the same tools to defend themselves but a) apparently they didn't care and b) if they did care they failed.

Personally I thing the whole thing was ridiculous and would appreciate it if people would have grown up but that's plainly not going to happen while people invest their personalities in a game.

But to add insult to injury, players using private/solo play are able to (and do) troll Open players by abusing the system control/PP mechanics.

Not trolling, working as intended.

You don't want players messing with your game, but you're off playing private or solo and you're messing with other people's game.

If it were up to me, I would be asking "Which is it?"

Do you want to play totally by yourself or don't you?

And if you DO want to play by yourself.. why should you be allowed to manipulate Open play?

The flaw in your argument is that it assumes that open mode is the default, "real" game and that the other modes are some sort of inferior subset of it. Not so, FDev have made it clear from day 1 that all modes are equal.

Your complaint that you can't compete with players in solo/group is also mistaken. You have just as much access to the BGS in open as they do in solo/group and can compete as much as you like - you just can't SHOOT at them. Fortunately you don't NEED to shoot at people to compete with them in the BGS. In fact the ONLY people you can shoot at are those in your instance, which means that you couldn't shoot at 99.9% of other players even if they were all in open. Upset about players in solo/group playing the BGS? fight back by playing the BGS in whatever mode you like.
