The Formidine Rift - Part 2

Added a Google form to the Spreadsheet for people to add new Sub Sectors to the candidate list (whether you want to search them or not)

While DWE Members are welcome, and I am sure the DWE Leadership can add much to the Rifters search, especially comms (DWE Discord server already has a Rifters channel available!), advertising and contacts (these things are often more who you know, than what you know), a coordinated search is already under way !

Dive in, the waters DARK

Folks,

I'll be having a chat with Ed Lewis re the rift, the 'Rifters', the potential expedition and Salomé's involvement with the current DW expedition with a view to getting a little more profile for everything you been doing here in this thread. Stay tuned for details.

Cheers,

Drew.

You had my curiosity, but now you have my attention! :D

Cool, thanks Drew.

One request though. If it's the case that there's a thing out there *and* it's the case that the book, your other writings, galnet, in game clues, in game actions etc are sufficient to find it then I'd vote for no hints. If on the other hand the only way to find it is through brute force 1000 CMDRs painfully scanning 100,000 systems then I'd be very much up for 'obscure' hints.

So far I'm still having fun reading, re-reading, pondering and otherwise randomly poking at things.

The intention is to give the community aspect wider recognition. I don't think most players are aware there's anything going on that they *could* be involved in. No additional clues outside of the game, book, galnet though - don't worry. You're all going to have to figure it out. :)

Cheers,

Drew.

Just noticed something interesting. I'm around the rift, and can see the soul nebula clearly (about 5400ly away), but the heart nebula, slightly closer to me is completely invisible. I'm not sure where this happened, or how far out I was when it disappeared, but I'm definitely going to be keeping an eye out for it again....

I noticed that during approach to the H&S nebulae, and so did Cmdr Sentynal. Must be a render bug!

You are, (in this case) quite literally, the man. And as you would say...

Right on ... Commander.

Yes & Yes

Actually, I was wondering if there was something more scientific about it with how much more "diffuse" the heart nebula looks. Did you happen to notice how close you were before it became visible?

Regarding the Galnet article that mentions traders vanishing in the Rift.

Ive been looking on EDDB at trading from Reorte to Riedquat and it isn't a great route. I was wondering if the problem was one of Piracy rather than Aliens. If it is Pirates they seem to like Clothing, Cobalt and Leather.

Anyone traded heavily in that area found any profitable routes? I would like to try and look like a Trader, see if I can snag an interaction.

*helps if you actually log into EDDB first. The Palladium trade would be attractive to most Pirates. "Watch your six" sure sounds like an interdiction.

To my recollection it was only not visible for a couple of jumps or so. Wish I'd been paying more attention, so I could have documented it. But, it certainly felt like it shouldn't have disappeared at all!

EDIT: Just re-read your post. The Heart Nebula had been visible for a good while, wasn't diffuse enough IMO to suddenly vanish.

Only one of Heart and Soul being visible during approach is a bug that has been there for ages.
Unless this is the secret of the rift of course, which I doubt.

Does anyone here knows how the sector names are generated in ED ?

Not speaking of the subsectors and systems, that has been decoded.
I'm speaking of the sectors themselves.

I took 8T Palladium this afternoon in my AspExp from Reorte to Riedquat with the same thought in mind, but no response, but it's only a short single jump so I can''t see the logic of that as a trade route. Maybe a shorter jump with an intermeiate stop?

Are we overthinking the puzzle of the Rift? Obviously. Once we've cracked the Rift open and revealed its secrets most of our theories will seem silly. Until then... every theory... no matter how far fetched... is worth investigating. Think it has something to do with Alice in Wonderland? Please chase down that rabbit hole! Convinced the answer lies in Greek mythology? Investigate it and see where it leads. Believe that the answer actually lies on the opposite side of the Galaxy heading toward the galactic core? Chase that path!

We can work together trying to prove or disprove each other's theories.

That said... I'd like to introduce my own tin foil hat for the evening:

A lot of talk about the "Heart Nebula" has really got me thinking and, while I'm still out in the center of the galaxy hunting neutron stars in order to afford my rift-ready starship, I can still contribute to the conversation through researching the subject.

Several internet sources state that the Heart Nebula's color comes from an open cluster of stars called Melotte 15. What I find really interesting though is that these sources also state that, about a million years ago, this cluster contained a microquasar that has since been expelled from the cluster.

Where did this microquasar go? Can we find it in game now? I'm very, very curious about this and, while it may have absolutely nothing to do with the puzzle before us, I'm still interested in pursuing this particular lead.

Found it! galaxymap.org had my answer to where this microquasar went:

"Also present further east in Sh 2-190 is the microquasar LSI +61 303, which is believed to have been blown out of IC 1805 by a supernova explosion about 1.7 million years ago. LSI +61 303 is a neutron star or black hole releasing a jet of material at 60% of the speed of light."

Now just have to see if it can be found...

Nice, this would indeed a dangerous location.

So... no additional clues except for what we already have unless they come from inside the game itself, something we've overlooked in the official fiction, or from Galnet. Can't wait to see what you've got in store for us Drew. I'll be wearing my special glasses from now on when reading Galnet...
