What will ED look like at the end of the 10-year plan?

This is also my feeling.

In the first year, ED really promised something better, but then came Horizons, being launched in a hurry and without content.

Let's see if this update 2.1 really will make a difference.
They told us we would get planets and we got planets.

And this kind of "technical" vision, is what really does not contribute to the game.

Because of this the game needs a better game designer and not just good programmers.

See I'd have to disagree with you here... not that I think they've lost any passion or drive, but more that from what I've seen since premium beta they've ALWAYS been as slow moving, hard headed, and illogical as they are now. Having the game taken over by a more experienced game company might be a shot in the arm, but I think Braben would sooner open a vein than let someone else produce "his baby".

I don't think they hard headed, I think they have a plan and they following it to the letter. That plan also includes doing other other games with focuses on specific technologies, Planet Coaster I suspect contain two technologies that will be introduced to Elite Dangerous, NPCs with their own feelings, set amount of credits and their own motives, and there crowd technologies.

I don't think they need better game designers, the game in many respects is perfect balance and they themselves know what needs improving, we have seen them talk about some of those things, without having hire in new blood.

As to what the game will look like in 10 years.

Power Play and Background simulation will be fully integrated,
We will have a much more dynamic universe.
Probably a few sentient alien species in the galaxy, hopefully interactions with those species will be more complex than just blowing them up.
We will have living breathing planets,
More mission types, diplomatic, military and other.
War zones will hopefully be a lot more dynamic with military missions, targets for players to take down and defend. Stations to infiltrate. It be nice to be given a job to take down a station defences, fly out and then see hundreds of NPCs vessels flood into the station, an if you didn't run, to see troops unloading from those ships.
Number of people in instances will probably be at least double what we can achieve now, 100 plus.
Hopefully a pretty extensive FPS game.

You forget PG clouds. :)

Not entirely true. Rocky planets yes. But not all planets.
Thats what I ment.
They told us we would get X and they gave us X but for some reason many wanted XYZ

I ment rocky/icy worlds with no atmosphere and I think thats a lot of content , thats a bit bigger than a mappack.

Perfect balance? Elite? And just how much Kool-Aid have you imbibed lately?

Well I like what we got.
It has gameplay and I agree that some of it is wierd but I love what we got.
Combat system is like Xwing alliance and that is an massive win for me
Trading is basic but functional and is very fun
BGS needs more work but its there
Exploration in unmatched in elite

I would love more gameplay but only if it fits in the universe in a realistic way... but then we are getting 2.1 that seems to be the rest of the package.
We cant judge season 2 until its over we can judge 2.0 and say it had allmost no gameplay but I would disagree because I spend hundreds of hours exploring

I think it depends largely upon what Star Citizen pulls out of the hat. If speculation for launch at the end of this year, FD have to pull out some proper stops to ensure that players do not opt to transfer over.

I think ED is on the right path, yet somehow think what happens at time of SC launch will determine the path of ED quite substantially.

Much of my wish list and multiplayer co-operative handles are being built into the various activity modules of SC. It's almost like Elite Dangerous meets Space Engineers, and that excites me. A LOT.

The difference is, we have Elite NOW, SC will come out some time in the future. Frontier can do stuff to ensure that SC doesn't alter their future.. but it's not going to be easy.

I love ED, but even I haven't yet bought Horizons.. not because I don't want to, I do for sure- but because it's not really going to be a game changer for me i don't really see the need. Got the T-Shirt by watching you-tube videos.. I need immersion, co-operative play with my friends.. want to explore deep space with buddies, join battles, etc. Share a ship, share roles and responsibilities... These things for me will make ED the place to be.

People will disagree completely, but, what keeps me is a personal thing, and space is lonely. I need a mess hall in my anaconda lol.

The pessimism is strong in this thread.

Wait, you mean that isn't the point of this forum? I thought this was the FD complaints directory. ;)

It doesn't really matter what most people think, if you want to call what they do thinking. Just take it with a bit of salt or sugar as you prefer.

Not to be rude nor point the finger at anyone in particular (fortunately I don't mind sounding like a donkey), but I'm genuinely often surprised how ignorant people seem to be, and have to often remind myself that I'm much more intelligent than most of them so as to properly construct, direct, and limit our interactions. I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt more than I should, as it often turns around to bite me in the rear end. Playing dumb can be easier than taking the time to explain everything to everyone, especially when they don't really care anyway (learning something or being more efficient isn't really part of most people's agendas, which is a travesty and failure of our education and employment systems), but it means that in some ways I'm forced into living a lie, if I want to be a "productive member of our society."

Does the IT professional erroneously complaining about storage drives being too small really want to learn the difference between GB and GiB, and how Windows mislabels capacities? Is it my duty to teach them? Don't get me started on wireless telecommunications...

Thanks for taking the time to listen to my soapbox. I don't often get to enjoy the freedom of being myself. :p

TL;DR: What did you expect?

Actually I said in many respects, which probably should be many aspects, but there you go. Many of the design decisions Frontier have made I agree with and like, an they what make E: D unique and not just another game going along with the crowd, a crowd that is making all MMOs look all the same. In some respects they are making first person shooters all look the same as well.

One of there best decisions, which I suspect many publishers would have bulk at was to make players have to travel around in this game and that there no instant teleportation, and this has also created unique spots like Hutton Orbital with it own fan created lore. And the huge 400 billion star galaxy.

I also like the fact that you are just a small cog in the galaxy and aren't all that important, no one will miss you if you die, which is pretty unique as usually every game have you saving the galaxy, multiple times if the game goes on long enough.

Another choice I like is that there no mage, warrior, healer, or in STO security, engineering, science rubbish going on,

and no skills trees to climb or skills points that need to allocated to specific skills to artificially slow you down.

There are a few things I do disagree with, like all cargo being 1 tonne, the insurance system not making much sense, unlimited long range exploration sensors, Powerplay not implemented as good as it could have been.

fuel scooping should be harder and more risky, exploration is a tad to fast and easy, I personally disagree with their being solo, group and open play.

but these are choices and on the whole I can see the logic of why Frontier have made the decisions it has done and we know some of these will change, Exploration will almost certainly get tougher in the future for example, we have been warned that traveling with no shields won't be a option in the future.

Well, compared to the 1984 version it's currently basically the same game with much better graphics and sound, so I'm thinking that in 10 years it will be basically the same game with further improvements to the graphics and sound.

Not entirely true. Rocky planets yes. But not all planets.

Was never promised, never ever! I see this a lot, this is simply not true and people should just stop spreading false information.

Airless moons and planets was always the plan first, and that has been in every broadcast, email and information from the get go.
You will not see full living atmospheric planets until season 5, so please just relax and enjoy the ride.

I guess you haven't got The Memo, Lysander. Here's how it works over here:

1) Make stuff up
2) Get very angry at your own imaginations
3) Vent frustration to random strangers online

I remember the Premium Beta days.

hehe, I still have some Screenshots somewhere.
It looks so adorably clunky and simple.
But yet still it looked somewhat better in some regards.

I love the game, I loved it before and I can't see a single reason for stop the love.

:)

Yeah, I'm an optimist.
