Devs, can we get more UI color controls?

I would much rather they spend their time on other things. We can already change the colors in the xml files that's good enough until they fill out the game a little more.

Some in-game UI color modifications would be welcome (yes yes, I know I can tinker with XML but even though that works, it's a sub-optimal method and alters too many parts at once). Particularly welcome for people who have less perfect color vision than the average Joe (me for example, have problems with the radar at times red and orangle blend more or less as one color, with slightly different hue/brightness - not after messing around with the XML though, but anyhow).

it really is too bad all the ship UIs are exactly the same. It's like buying multiple cars from different manufacturers and finding that all the dashboards look exactly alike. Pretty dull IMO and not the way it would go. Elements would be similar of course, but the design would be a bit different between all of them. It would really go a long way to making each ship feel more unique.

I would go one further (and definitely further down the line), different HUD schemes for different ships, and different layouts for sensor classes. There should even be modules, purchase more display/sensors.

Why would Imperial ships have the same layout as Federation ships? Breaks my immersion, man ;)

There is an additional step that would need doing. Ben Parry answered a post about this ages ago and explained that whilst some parts of the HUD are plain white textures others have colours which is why certain elements go weird colours when we alter the XML values. He said that all of those tinted textures would need re-doing in white or customer colours would never work properly. After that is done and the HUD is tweaked so that retexturing doesn't break anything they would then need to split the elements up and do the bits you said. It sounds like quite a lot of work for a purely cosmetic change so I can see how it would be low priority.

This. Additionally, it is quite common for the existence of a workaround to diminish the priority of a desired feature.

By this i'm referring to currently you can change the hue and so forth however it's still not good. For example when you make the UI blue, everything is blue, when you make the UI green, everything is green.

What i'm asking for is to give us the option to change individual things. For example I want to change my UI to white/gray however I want to keep friendly targets to green and enemies to red.

Shouldnt be too hard to change the UI images no?

This is exactly why we do not have in-game HUD color customization yet.
Because of all the requests FD said they wanted to give it to us eventually, but it requires a fundamental redesign of the HUD to do it in a way that fits FD's quality standards.
They gave us the current limited access to HUD customization options so we could at least mess around a little bit.

Gee.. so kind of Frontier.. [rolleyes]

Did they give it to us?

Where is the description or manual on how to find the XML file and adjust it to our preference, and just for Error what about XBox?

Your persevering negativity is somewhat disturbing... :/
It makes life a lot harder you know.

:)

It is not an official solution, but those who frequent the forums will be able to get the info.
There's even a webpage by one of our cool community members:
http://arkku.com/elite/hud_editor/

and just for Error what about XBox?

Once there is an official implementation Xbox will no doubt get access to it too.
But as we all know it is much easier to tinker around with unofficial stuff on PC.

I think when they first designed the game they were too far thinking about Elite being Elite. Same sensors, same feel. They miss judged the game market now, we don't want Elite 3, we selfishly want Elite 5. Mistakes were made they will get around to it.

I find your lack of negativity disturbing.
It not all a story with a happy ending you know?

That is true. And it might take a long time still before we get this kind of customization.
It is what it is. At least for those that want it FD took the trouble to give us access to a limited work around.
The colour of the HUD is something I will really care about when a lot of other stuff I truly desperately want has been implemented.
So, call me about this in 10 years or so and we can be negative about this in unison. :)

How you so sure of that anyway? We can barely map any buttons.

This is the one hundred and sixty fifth time this is discussed.
Questions were asked during Q&A sessions and live shows.
Answers were given.
etc.

On the X-box?
I don't know anything about x-boxes.

Yes.. on the Xboxes..

Yes.. on the Xboxes..

As this game is primarily a PC product you guys have to wait longer for updates (FD can only do so much at the same time), but FD has stated on several occasions that you will get what we get whenever possible.
Giving you guys HUD color customization should not be difficult once it is implemented in-game.

You would think that but we don't even have any translations.. only English.. and still no bindings.

I have an eye condition that makes me hypersensitive to a frequency of red light, most noticeable to me from red LEDs taillights on cars and hyperbrite LEDs, ironically the same red is present in the orange of the HUD. I wear special glasses when needed but, ended up modding the HUD XML and have a script written for when FD updates wipe out my changes.

It would be nice to have this made part of the game but, would rather all the other bits are implemented first.

I read about that.
I also read that the updating process for X-box is somewhat more complicated and can not be done as frequently as on PC.
I guess you will have to be even more patient than the PC players.

As this is a huge project in the midst of development by a dev that does not have the enormous capacity of UBI or EA or Rockstar it will take time.
Patience is of the essence.
There is nothing we can do about that.
The only thing I know for sure is that FD is fully committed to this unique project.

It has nothing to do with Microsoft being s (well for us to get Horizons it kinda is)

We've already had atleast half a dozen updates and the original release so why wasn't it implemented there. The game got updated every 1-2 months in the first 6 months.
