2.1 - stop the hype train

I have to be honest here. I had a *lot* of hope pinned on 2.1 I've not played Elite for more than 10 mins straight in the past 2 months and am just waiting for 2.1 hoping that it will fire me up again and get me interested in playing. So in a way, 2.1 was a biggy for me..

However.. that pretty much changed last night when I saw that new 21 minute No Man's Sky video, now I'm still hoping 2.1 is awesome but if its not, I won't really care, as NMS will be close to release and that looks pretty awesome indeed.

Didn't GTA V on PC work out the box?
Shhhhhhhhhhh GTA V is the holy grail of games and all it's hilarious bugs that there are thousands of videos of on youtube are actually charming features that everyone loves. Unlike Elite bugs, they're the devil

Don't be silly!
They delayed it because there wasn't enough bugs for release.
Once everything is well and truly broken, they'll release 2.1.. Then spend a few weeks/months fixing it.
You know how it works!
No video game company releases anything in working order any more.
Atleast FD try to fix things!

Lol

LOL. At least it isn´t an early access game. Or is it? ARK, H1Z1 with more are driving this train, and it seems to work. I like updates :) And I like continuous development of a game. So I play the game :p Frontier is on the right train with this. A long term project, with continuous updates, expansions and support. It sounds modern and self sufficient. :)

There is quite the chance/risk materials for the good engineer services will be so rare, so hard to get, so RNG-dependent that for most people it is no use bothering with the system at all. Yeah, sure, once in a while you find a useful item, oh wait you need 10 of them and 10 of that other thing you have never seen for the one modification you have the most use for. But then you meet the one PvPer who went the extra mile and now has 10% stronger shields, 10% stronger guns, is 10% faster and 10% more agile.

I believe it will prove to be exactly like that. You find an Engineer and he provides an option to permanently boost your kinetic weapon damage by 5%. You can't make it too easy to obtain because everyone will end up having it and the 'expansion' will disappear in the end. You can't make it too hard either cause it'll take 2 hours for people to find out and start creating whine threads about how unfair it is.
I think it's going to be a week-long grind for each +5%, and that's it.

As always I pray to all the cosmic gods to be proven wrong.

Seriously, if it wasn't for the epic Forum battles/discussions/speculations over yet-unknown-and-untested-content ... the heck - what would we do in the meantime ?! :D

I'd say : let it roll!
After all, it can't be worse than PowerPlay(tm) or CQC(tm) [*]
[*] *lol* don't quote me on that! xD

We'll see when V2.1.00beta goes live...

It was delayed because of FDs commitment to quality as stated by DB "... However, it is absolutely critical for the longer-term success of the Elite franchise that we maintain our absolute commitment to quality ...".

Yesterday I thought to myself, why not give Elite a try after 3 months of "Vacation" or "Out of the cockpit", we all come back in the end ;) So I went first into VA and looked up if there was an update, and just messed around a little with my E.D setup, spoke some commands and tested the mic. Everything is fine, so I go into where you can write in the spoken comments for the different spoken commands you have made. I found out that I could have more than 1 spoken command, which after a couple of years had become boring with just 1 command. It was the same god damn phrase every time. But now I realized I could make as many as I want. I dont know if this is a new feature. Anyhow, the show was on. I sat for 3 hours making commands for my "computer voice" inside the ship. Man what a trip, to make the computer say exactly what you like and randomize it. Star Wars, Star Trek and all sci fi heaven came to use. It was fun. I even added some humor to some of my comments, like saying launch for launching the "bad" missiles, then the computer would maybe say " I like when you release those big warheads commander". And I released some missiles and it said that phrase. And I thought this is computer gaming in the making, this is the pinnacle of space simulators. I felt like Luke, Dart Vader and Picard at the same time. And I thought how will this be in VR, I still haven´t tried it. It must be the ultimate Sci Fi experience to this date. Yes, the rest is history, I tried out my missile commands in my Asp. It was fun, but off course I was rusty after 3 months out of the cockpit so I got       by a drop ship. Most of the time went into setting up my VA and don´t erasing old keybindings in the controls, but in the end it all felt into place. And as I had for seen the missiles sucked, they need a buff. Even with shields down the FDS maybe took 3-5% hull dmg from 2 small missiles. Its to low, they need to be better. If not the 12 missiles wont justify occupying 2 small hard points on my Asp. So it really were just for testing and to see if I could launch my missiles by saying "launch" and hear the random commands from my computer voice. But I loved it, just by being able to do this I had a great Elite session. So I look forward for 2.1, I really do. E.D is already a great game giving me the ultimate sci fi experience. 2.1 will make it even better. Hey, my crystal ball is bigger than yours :D

Luckily 2.1 will introduce carriage returns...

Apparently 2.1 will also have the unifying theory which will bring together string theory and chaos theory. Bring an end to war in the Middle East. Cure poverty across the world, but most importantly will explain what women are thinking.
Allegedly.

Brain meltdown imminent!

However, I truly believe (in a moment of seriousness) that 2.1 will be the start of something great for ED. When I saw the concept art for the bases, I was like, those bases are wonderful, hidden in canyons, just imagine FPS there at some point (yes I know i'm ahead of development) buuut just imagine for a moment.

Wasn't the declared goal of 2.1's massive delay exactly to make sure there are less bugs this time?

I think that's still one of the goals. But less bugs is relative. 100 are less than 200 bugs, but still lots of bugs. Bug quantity doesn't matter though, currently large parts of the community consider the whole mission system broken because 5/30 of the mission types don't work.

My concerns exactly...

Let's assume we go down that sort of route where you can 10% enhance features, then that will largely become the new bench mark for any serious level of PvP... Anyone in OPEN who takes part in PvP could feel compelled to earn these 10% enhancments, so as to remain on an even(ish) keel with everyone else... So what then is the point then ultimately, when everyone is then running at nigh on 110% instead of 100%?

We thought the same of the hulls of huge crashed ships on the planets' surfaces - as far as I know they are still nowhere to be found. I may be wrong though about this one, haven't been playing for a while now.

I am looking forward to 2.1 based on what FD told us. I am not expecting a revolution, but many different improvements, and I am pretty sure they'll deliver.

I can give you the location of one if you want it... [rolleyes]

There are only a few weeks left until 2.1 beta starts and I have seen lots of comments like:

"This will be fixed in 2.1", "2.1 will be a game changer", "If they don't deliver in 2.1 I'll leave the game"

I think you will be disappointed. There will be bugs, lots of bugs. The game will not turn into Eve and they will not introduce a client-server architecture. There will be no epic quests and you should not even think about becoming the saviour of the universe. Don't expect thargoids. You'll think Engineers are just a shallow and meaningless gameplay addition, basically the same grind again, and they should have improved the core professions instead. You'll not feel like you got your money's worth. Ultimately Horizons is a major rip-off and 2.1 is just the final nail in the coffin of a game that died 2 years ago when Frontier decided to remove offline mode.

On the bright side, they will improve the game - just like they did with every update so far.

That's your opinions and you have a right to express it :)

These are not the facts though.

You can find an Anaconda or T9, sadly there is no crashed Coriolis station. It would be great to see one covered in dust but in the end you would still say that it doesn't add any depth...

Of the 4 things you mention the first 3 are entirely possible. The 4th will occur just after all games/software are released with no bugs whatsoever. Which should occur just after the heat death of the Universe!

Knowing what women think is so damn easy, it always cracks me up when people make jokes about how impossible it is! ^^

I think you misunderstood, I look forward to 2.1 and I loved all updates we got so far. In my opinion FDEV delivered an amazing game and they will continue to do so. I just have low expectation because I like to get surprised rather than disappointed. Anyway, there will be bugs ;)

PS
And there will be people complaining, regardless of the work and effort FDEV put into it.

Yet here you are, two years after a game which you say died at launch, writing in the forums. I think your comments tell us more about you that Elite. Don't like it, go play something else and move on.
