it has been 20 yrs since i last played elite'it is still the greatest game ever made'
but if i remember correctly the 'hyperdrive' does fix itself so you can get out of 'which' space.
but i have been stuck in it for 3 hrs now..
any idea's
will i have to start again?

This may help :D

Mis-jumps take the ammount of fuel required for the intended jump. If the remaining fuel is adequate you can hyperspace again. This will always be possible if the intended jump was less than 3.5 LY on a full tank. If you don't have enough fuel for another jump, you are doomed unless you have an escape capsule which IIRC does still work (though strictly speaking it shoudn't).

From Ian Bell

Welcome to the forum :D

Another option to the one that TJ quoted is to have a Galactic Hyperdrive installed. Sure, you will be another galaxy but you will be out of witchspace. :)

Time to go back to the previous saved game methinks....

It's all part of the adventure.

I do enjoy playing ELite on the C64 but when you have 2-3 ships coming after you I find it hard to cope with how slow everything goes with so much on the screen at once. I don't remember it being slow on the C64 back in 1985 but my emulator is running at 100% so I guess it must be and I must just have rose coloured glasses. :)

I just played the C64 one a few hours ago. Actually played several today.

1. C64
2. Zx Spectrum
3. Archimedes
4. Amiga
5. Atari ST

Yep I got "ELITEd" today :)

That was my first foray into Elite too in 1985 when it came out here in Aus on the C64.

Me too. Huge fan of the 64 version.

I played the C64 version as a wee lad.

I got to Dangerous rating and I think galaxy 4 was the furthest I went before I stopped playing it.

Definitely the game I sunk the most time into growing up.

I'll never forget playing around with the constrictor mission and how you could easily blow that ship up with a single missile. Using the Military Lasers would take quite a bit of time.

Welcome to the forums Jack. I'm a fellow C64 veteran as well. :)

Yes, Elite on the old breadbin here too.

I just remembered an Elite odd occurrence yesterday. Once in awhile while traveling in-system I got mass locked and the scanner would show two or three vessels close together. I of course always suspected pirates. I flew up close to find two vessels so close together it almost seemed they were linked up. It's been a long time but I think they were either sidewinders or worms maybe. There was another vessel close by, perhaps a mamba. They did not attack but when I fired, the two linked ships came apart and returned fire. I always found this rather odd and wonder if anyone here has witnessed the same thing?

I've seen the Comodore Imiga version that came out later and would love to play that one.

You mean Amiga.
Did you see my post about using Amiga Forever ? It works really well, scales the screen correctly and you can play Frontier Elite 2 Amiga version. :)

oh incidently, there are two M's in Commodore as well. ;)

Say did you ever read The Dark Wheel ?

Amiga Forever?

Where did you post about that again?

Oh yes, ComModore, of course ;)

I read the novella and more than once, but only a long time ago now.

What do you ask?

I must have written that to you in another thread.

Anyway if you want to play the Amiga version just go buy the premium edition of Amiga Forever

www.amigaforever.com

As for Dark Wheel I was just interested if you had read it. :)

I can also recommend C64 forever.

Interestingly thoughthere are game files out there which work with some emulators and not others. Use C64 forever as a starting point and go from there.

Wish I could tell you. I've been playing Elite on an original C64 for the past couple of months and haven't encountered this issue yet. I'll be posting a review of the game on my buddy's website, www.videogamecritic.com in the next couple of days. Great game, but loses points for a lack of missions.
