Can't drive under ship. Dismiss ship. Recall ship. Still can't drive under it. Dismiss and recall again. STILL can't drive under it. Next attempt, crash to desktop again.
And this is exactly what flushed my last useful attempt down the toilet. :x
By the way, it was by far the fastest I had in the making, up to the second to last recall anyway.
At least I had a good attempt in the evening, that one will have to do.
So, it was you the audience I had at Darboux? When I saw a Courier, I thought about cookiehole coming to say hello. I also saw an Asp, but I was too much "in the zone" to remember to target your ships...anyway, I botched that run in a fiery plunge into George Pantazis' corona...
Yep it was Kliggish and myself. I grabbed some footage of you boarding the ship and taking off.
Turns out the Courier isn't so big you can always drive underneath it. Methinks a bug report with videos of my failures to reach the vehicle bay are called for.
Cheers everyone, it was good fun but I'm too tired now, I've tried several times to improve but every time I've set off I've done something stupid and lost so much time I know I can't get any better. Maybe I'll have a go at the CG bucky-style run tomorrow night.
OK folks, that's it. Following a heated last day of racing Total Recall is finally over and we have a blue sky on Mars blue tape on scoreboard situation.
So, while we keep the winners waiting just a little bit longer before pulling off the tape let's review the weekend action.
Ultimately finishing 12th we had a brand new entry on Friday from MrDragonRaaar, pretty damn good considering it's his first time driving an SRV (just 336KM travelled by the end), and then early on Saturday morning another brand new entry from Backer #-4112 who decided to do it for fun in a Viper Mk IV and still turned in a perfectly decent sub 50 minute time (don't worry LordSnow, your position at the back is safe!).
Welcome both and I hope we'll see you back again for the next one.
Then, at just after midday on Saturday came the return of the furrycat (aren't you supposed to be a Beagle Point?) with an incredibly good time, so good in fact that it won the bet with Cmdr Polly who's been sporting a new avatar for a couple of days now as a consequence (hands up who spotted that?).
Stern Winter turned in the first of two weekend runs on Saturday evening with a 43:05 (despite pad overshoot) and then we had the final entry from Polly who, as a newcomer to Buckyball racing, has been involved in a nail biting (and at times heart breaking) struggle to hang on to the number one spot. Although finally nudged back into 4th by the pro's, that 36m26s time is truly extraordinary and I would like to award you with our first ever (I believe) Best Newcomer accolade. Congratulations! A superb fight and too bad that another contest in RL prevented you from making one last comeback attempt.
Early Sunday saw MrDragonRaaar shaving nearly 6 minutes off his previous time and then a second run from Stern Winter, finding a further 2 minutes somewhere in order to finish in the top 10 - well done sir! Later in the morning and we had BRC co-founder Samwell Drakhyr's return to racing after a brief absence with an excellent 45m49s which left him feeling somewhat frustrated but just 4 seconds behind the next racer.
Later in the day, Cmdr Kliggish was back with a vengeance, a Khaki Mullet and another incredible time ... good enough to overtake Polly and mount the podium, but would it be enough to win?
Not one to let 4 seconds stand between him and a better placing, Drakhyr returned in the evening with a time over a minute faster, only to end up (you guessed it) 4 seconds behind the next racer! I feel your pain my friend! Half an hour of intense racing and it can still come down to just 4 seconds ... again. That's Buckyball!
Cmdr madbilly switched to the DBX and came back to claim 17th place, racer1 made some improvements despite encountering a few bugs to take 13th and then, with barely 30 minutes to go before the end of the race, a final blistering entry from Cmdr Aken B. in the Bucket of Bolts with the third of our three sub 35 minute times.
So, furrycat, Kliggish and Aken B. Three champions of Buckyball Racing. But who was the final winner?
Right, time for breakfast, back in about half a an hour!

Haha, excellent run-down, better than C4's F1 highlights! Well done to everyone, I'm seriously impressed with the times you all managed. I know I could improve mine but I'm not even sure I could get into the top ten!
oh you tease... I think I lost by the amount of time it took me to faff about in darboux legacy getting to the ramp from the med pads.. I will be taking my python there immediately and lasering in another 2 ramps.
good race Alec, thanks for hosting... if anyones wondering how the times got so low.. drive your buggy at 50 + as long as you can.. see alecs image earlier in the thread of tilted buggies.
Errr, it turns out I'm late for a dentist appointment (no, seriously). If I have to endure pain than you do as well. Final update later on (Argggh, the agony).
Right, back from the dentist. Here we go, and the winners are ...
In 3rd place ...
As he clearly suspected, it's Cmdr Kliggish in the Khaki Mullet, with a superb time of 34 minutes and 14 seconds.
Congratulations commander. o7
And ... drumroll ... The Buckyball Racing Club Total Recall gold and silver medals go to ...
With a time of 33 minutes 43 seconds, in second place we have Cmdr Aken B. flying the Bucket of Bolts DBX ..
A valiant attempt to regain pole position, foiled in the end by a black screen bug on the second to last recall. Bad luck.
But, just 5 seconds ahead, our winner is of course, Cmdr furrycat in the Blue Mongoose DBX with a time of 33 minutes and 38 seconds.
Congratulations! A terrific win, hard fought to the end. Beginning with a sacrificed Anaconda to get back for the start of the race and ending with an aborted run to Beagle Point for the end of the race, you are clearly born to race first and explore second.
Bravo!
Thanks to everyone for taking part, hope you enjoyed it and we look forward to seeing you for the next one (a "mid-week madness" event commencing on the 19th unless I'm mistaken).
looking through my shots ive got a 34.06 I forgot to submit. whoever designed the planetary bases has done me up like a kipper.. med pads in the middle.. furthest from the ramps.. frikkin liberty!
congrats to Furry and aken B and all who took part.
That small gap dividing the fast from the bit less fast, the lucky from the bit less lucky, the reckless from the bit less reckless, the sparrow from the nightingale (it has nothing to do with this, but a nice song nonetheless...I'd have linked Neneh Cherry if only the gap was seven seconds ).
It's good to see that in the end, the race has not been decided by lucky timing or bugs, but more by actual ability, those five seconds mean that furrycat simply managed to be faster, do less mistakes, or both. Well played, fair game.
What a bunch of nonsense, I've been clearly sabotaged, furrycat cheated, the entire race was set up, I should have won because I am ME and I ALWAYS win because I'm the best there is and you are all envious. This is a devious conspiracy, I absolutely didn't do any error because I'm not able to, you all plotted against me, the rule of the Lizards is coming, the sky is raining meat balls, the darkness advances, I must leave this planet while I can. But not before a glass of milk and a nap.
On a positive note, the joystick with all its problems held the fort once again. Probably, opening it and giving a pass of ipa cleaner to the pots was more effective than repeated slamming, who knows, the mysteries of electronics.
