Rise to Power - who should the Explorer Community support?

The Mercs of Mikunn have made the cut to compete to become a power. We would like to invite you to join us as in this endeavor. We already have several other groups on board - TWH and the Communism Interstellar and the power will be representative of our three groups - all of which are BGS groups. This would ensure the power would run smoothly with excellent fortification triggers.

Together we have formed what is known as the "Border Coalition" frontiersmen pushing the borders of colonized space with a Browncoat Firefly-esque feel. We think that you-guys as explorers would like to support us, especially considering that we are independant and have an interest in colonization.

You make a strong case Walt, I've helped you build a station, pretty sure I'll be throwing my support behind you again.

Well, if we can start our sphere of Influence at BP, and expand from there...

Depends on what special toy you have to offer...

The really sad thing is that I'd kind of like to take part in some of this Power Play stuff. Unfortunately the risks and downsides for explorers just aren't worth it, the positives just aren't enough. We are really the only group punished so harshly for death in combat with regards to time, effort, and credits lost upon destruction.

Like most everyone else I'm looking forward to the Thargoids popping up some day, but then let's be honest, which one of us will be looking to get into firefights while 20,000 lys out in space and carrying a couple dozen million credits worth of data? I mean we are practically going to have to choose what we want to do when we go into deep space: either explore and avoid combat, or kill bugs and forego exploring. Because doing both is a recipe for disaster and heartache.

And that's really what also makes Power Play so unreasonable for so many of us. Sometimes I really wonder if we'd just be better off from a fun factor point of view if we didn't lose exploration data upon death, or if we at least had some mechanic to safeguard against it. It would really free us up to play in many more ways.

This is why we'll need the ability to colonize deep space stations via normal in game mechanic (ie not CGs). Ideally an explorer power would consist only of these far flung stations and in addition to CR we would gain fortification merits simply by the act of turning in data. We would not have a capitol system. And undermining us would be quite difficult.

I don't see MOM on the list. Nor do I see "Border Coalition". All I see some Communism Interstellar Alliance. Is that you?

Considering the name of your ship in your signature, I'm unsure of what you are expecting..... :D

A very large.. erm.. FSD...

It would be interesting if Jacques station turned up somewhere near the core, giving explorers a central place to go for repairs, selling data etc... It could mean never having to go to the bubble for the rest of the time this game is active. Especially if some outfitting options are available...

Well, I must say that I have been also actively pushing my group as an Explorer's Nation many times in this forum before.... I quickly realized that the sole definition of that is almost an oxymoron and contradictory: you can't build up a country or nation when all the Government offices -and army- have a "Out for Exploring - be back in 3 months" sign posted in the outside window! lol.. :)

However, if we, the many little groups within the community, join together to support the most effective leadership, I think we can have a shot for another explorer's power, made by explorers, for explorers.

Again, FD has not yet said what kind of benefits that player made power would be able to offer or have...

Walt.. my respects to you and Mercs of Mikunn as usual...I have been running SEPP for over a year now, and supported you guys back in Lugh.... we are almost as old as you guys are and very interested in hearing your ideas on this...

Yep nice catch. glad it didn't get all dusty. Waffle free. Suffice to say, I'm proud to be running with Sepp since I got back from sag A almost 7 months ago. Ill support them no matter what. A safe haven for explorers in an explorers nation is a fantastic idea.

As well you should be.

Had a quick read over. I've never bothered with Power play etc and from what I read it really isn't compatible with exploring. The timelines are all wrong.
Do xyz for a week, something happens, do next for a week etc. A week? Really?

3 months and counting to get passed the 40kylie mark on the way to BP. Glacial versus sprints.....doesn't seem compatible.

If there was a merger of MoM and SEPP with a rank 2 bonus for exploration, then I think it'd be a no brainer who'd is support. If it comes down to a contest though, I'll support SEPP all the way. They are the only explorer nation in the running afaik. ;)

I already offered to do exactly that. We have already merged with other groups. :)

Don't care who I support as long as I can kill people. That's why I love exploring, you have bounties on you in excess of 10 million, go for a wander and when you come back they have all disappeared. Memory must be really bad in 3302.

Meanwhile at the Explorer Power's HQ :D

A power made up of explorers will suffer in PP, unless we can reinforce systems by being far away from them as possible :D
But seriously... If we could colonize systems / build stations many many KLYs from the bubble (like suggested in previous comments) and integrate selling exp. data as expansion/fortification mechanics, it could work. But until we get there, I will support whoever the majority of explorers chooses.

I know right? So what you are saying is that the explorer competitor should merge with one of the others ;)

Interesting observation :D

Depends on the rank perks. If a better FSD, lighter hull etc were on offer, I think explorers would do a heck of a lot of power play :)

Strongly agree. If it was a rank 2 exploration income bonus, then you could grab 800 merits in under an hour and be set for a month of exploration.

Throw in an FSD boost module, or maybe longer range deep surface scanners, and almost every explorer would participate for at least 4 weeks ;).

Now if Frontier ever adds Merits for exploration, then we'll really be in business.
