Actually with no comms in A4 all they will do is try and kill you.
Why on earth can't peeps look to bettering the overall experience for everyone, accept that the world don't revolve around them and realise that others have a choice.
ps. hammered so any sensible replies may well go right ower mi head.
I was just listening to the last Twitch stream and Michael was talking about AI piracy and demanding the other ship to surrender and hand over its cargo. Its quite possible that the AI may demand this of you. That was how I interpreted it at least.
I think the entire thread started with the wrong premise. The game is not about becoming the strongest/richest/whatever-est, it is not about dominance, and on an entirely different note you are not going to create a corporation, you will always be a freelance pilot doing their own thing.
The bounty on telling another pilot to hand over his cargo is going to be lower than blowing him to bits to get at it. I hope that this becomes a viable method of obtaining cargo without having to resort to murder.NPCs would have more reasons NOT to destroy a player if it isn't always about cargo though (not everyone will be carrying it for starters and I highly doubt an empty cargo bay means immunity form all forms of NPC criminal activity).
You can't be a corporate CEO? I mean I get taht the game wants you to go out and fly, but I think being an owner of a large super corporation would be pretty cool.![]()

The problem would be how they hand over "credits" if they have no cargo.
People keep using that word, and thinking that the EVE style take on it is "the only true sandbox". The oddest part of that is the implication that unrestricted PvP is somehow essential to (or even a part of) what makes a sandbox game.It seems to me creating a pre-defined set of rules for what is acceptable is a complete divergence from the concept of a sandbox game.
In a game with a sandbox mode, a player may turn off or ignore game objectives, or have unlimited access to items.[33] This can open up possibilities that were not intended by the game designer. A sandbox mode is an option in otherwise goal-oriented games and is distinguished from open-ended games with no objectives such as SimCity.[33] Another popular Sandbox Mode based modification is Garry's Mod, also known as Gmod for Half Life 2.
deMangler said:To my mind this can never work as long as players are essentially immortal. The only outcome of that is that all players, griefers or not, over time, will all become elite and have uber iron 4rse ships.
Its going to be an exceptionally dull game if there is no risk of defeat. Pirates just ask for stuff nicely and give you the option to run away.. NPCs who aren't allowed to kill players.. We may as well do away with combat and have a space slideshow text adventure based trading game.
All those words, and not a single one explaining what PvP experience you have that has led you to these conclusions about how the playerbase here hasn't experienced enough PvP games and hence has the entirely wrong idea.To take a general comment like that as a direct attack you feel the need to defend your self against is a little strange.
However it does highlight exactly the issue that is being discussed here. A general comment that was in no way insulting or aimed at anyone in particular has been taken as an insult by an individual.
The same way a pirate playing the game and taking another players cargo within the terms set out by the game will give exactly the same responce!
what there aren't, in the game universe itse are nutcases who attack people for no other reason than that they enjoy combat for it's own sake.
Honestly, totally without virtiol, I am just blown away by how anyone (again without virtriol) can not appreciate what I am advocating is the only way to do this. Do you really want to play in a COD type sandbox where everyone is Elite, everyone is filthy rich and without any risk? And to turn the ALL group in to a holding pen for griefers and/or those who just want to throw away entirely disposable millions in bling and pretend they've 'won' the game? Thats exactly what happened in EVE 0.0. People now just whelp entire fleets of caps (tends of thousands of dollars worth of assets) because they are bored and its nothing to them ..
It makes me so sad that people don't want to have a genuine sandbox (in so far as that is possible in the face of other forms of cheating) where you can literally forge your own destiny and be totally certain everyone you encounter is working just as hard as you and truly savour that moment you finally become Elite or when you encounter someone who is.
I just don't get it.Anyway I have made my point as best I can. If only one or two people agree with me then I must accept the game we get .. As sad as that makes me!
Nice find, but when I read that, all I interpreted from it was: everyone is free to 'cheat'. I suppose we will wait and see, but I am not confident the game won't blow for those who play ironman or who stick in the ALL group because they want to feel a sense of accomplishment not the inevitible min/maxing munchkinism that the vast majority of multiplayer gamers confuse for the same thing.
Below would be the 5 options we're given at character creation that our character can be born into (in theory) :-
- Open All Group (group switching allowed)
- Characters can create sub groups and switch to these Private or Solo Online groups as and when they like.
- Closed All Group (no switching allowed)
[*]Ironman
- No option to create sub groups is available. Everyone born here stays in one all-encompassing global group.
- Characters created outside of this group are not allowed to join it (except dead ironmen).
- Characters created inside this group can leave it for the open all group but can never return.
- Upon death, ex-Ironmen can chose to create a new Ironman or have their dead Ironman avatar be reborn into option 1 or 2.
- Solo Online
- Characters can join the Open All Group whenever they like.
- Solo Offline
- Single player Elite with no influence on the multiplayer gameworld.
