I don't mind clever AI as long as it follows the rules.
It follows rules, except for high wake mass blocking - and I suspect even that has changed recently.

That is not so much a bug in my experience as a visual glitch that seems to happen now and again, if you watch a fight from the outside, it becomes very clear.I don't mind the interdictions so much, but what annoys me beyond rage is the magical weapons that pay no attention to firing arcs, maybe I am wrong but I didn't know you could get plasma accelerator turrets that are also pin point accurate. I sat behind a python yesterday and it was firing plasma bolts at me with amazing accuracy.
The devs need to make NPC's follow the same rules as players. If they want to make their NPC's a challenge then improve the AI, cheating is a cheap and dirty way of doing it.

Personally I think it is because AI's default to fa-off, if I recall correctly, and there's some issues with tracking that properly?
That said I can't say there isn't also a bug naturally, in your example, was he trying to turn or anything?
Very true, and that's a tricky thing to balance, because some of that can make it too easy, but yeah, perfect aim is a bit of a crutch, but it is one needed until there is a way to reliably make the other thing work, they basically are just perfect pilots, knowing exactly how to turn and twist their ships to do x y z and do so with perfect accuracyAI doesn't fly FA off yet, I suspect they might - at least Elite and Dangerous - in 2.1 (as far as I remember SJA comments on this). They use vertical/horizontal thrusters a lot on higher ranks.
And no, they don't cheat, and yes, higher ranks might seem magically precise, but there's no cheating involved. In fact, opposite is much harder to do - perfect AI will aim perfectly and hit perfectly. No need for cheats, it will destroy player ship in a minute. Problem is how to make it feel like human, to make errors, make aiming less precise.
AFAIK NPCs don't follow the same rules as players in that:It follows rules, except for high wake mass blocking - and I suspect even that has changed recently.
AFAIK NPCs don't follow the same rules as players in that:
- They can interdict you are slightly different angles (don't have to be as behind as players)
- They have infinite ammo on guns that have ammo
- They don't suffer from heat mechanics
(Based on forum posts from a while ago - NPCs could have been altered recently which may render the above moot)
Ahhh, heat mechanics will be enabled for NPCs 2.1 afaik. Unlimited ammo is only known issue which I hope FD address sooner or later. And that interdiction sounds more like bug than cheating.

Only multi-cannon ammo is unlimited and that's by design as we make them miss deliberately - other ammo is all restricted.

Let me first start by stating that I don't like to cheat. This is the only game I have played in a long time where I will cheat occasionally, I do this because the game cheats also.
So I'm in SC and two different pirates send me messages to indicate they are about to interdict me. One of them does so I submit then the other drops in too, no biggy, this happens all the time. I boost away and jump out again. These two NPCs just keep jumping in and interdicting me. Anyway it goes on and sometimes I get an FSD failure due to their magic ability to fill the bar instantly sometimes; I have to wait for the FSD cooldown which serves no purpose other than to annoy you. This is already annoying and dumb mechanics but here's the best bit - I decided that on the next interdiction I'll fight the mini game. When it happens it took around 1.5 mins to win it then INSTANTLY I get locked into another by the other NPC and have to do that also. So many game mechanics that are not only broken but just seem to serve the only purpose of severely annoying the player.
What prompted me to write this though was why I was forced to combat log. As if all the above isn't annoying enough as it is, I had another incident in the next system where a pirate kept doing the same (only 1 this time). I managed to get within 10MM of the station, literally about to drop and he interdicts me. I submit and boost away and jump again but I somehow start about 10LS away from the station!! My plan was, since I was so close to the station I could jump and then safe disengage before he got behind me again. Anyway, this repeated for 5 times where I kept getting really close then interdicted and it would reset 10LS away again. I'd had enough and combat logged, logged back in and flew to the station. What a joke!
BTW for both these occasions I did not have any missions active, I was just doing my own trade.
So many mechanics like this that just astounds me that the DEVs never once thought "hmm, would this annoy the hell out of the players??, no"
It's a sad day when we have to resort on game exploits to counter the games stupid annoying flaws!
Combat logging against NPCs?
Seriously what is wrong with this community? Does no one want a challenge anymore?
I am regularily combat logging against Npc interdictors while I am on smuggling or trade runs - dealing with them is nothing but a waste of time. It`s the people I like to play with and for this hobby I need money, lot of it.
