I have no idea what ED's plan is for Season 3, but from the rumors I've heard and based on what's coming I can come up with a pretty decent idea of what we'll see next.

Based on the fact that "Landing on Planets" was a pretty significant change in gameplay from just flying around in a ship, and given the fact that we're getting the character creator this season, It's safe (I hope) to say that On-foot exploration and combat isn't too far off.

Also, the next big step in planetary interaction is adding in atmospheric flight, although it would most likely be on lifeless worlds with atmospheres, with life-sustaining and inhabited worlds being part of the plan in the distant future.

People have also been begging for more social tools, and the ability to create a chat channel restricted to systems with Nav Beacons and filtered to be region-specific wouldn't be TOO difficult I don't think. Time consuming? Yes. But I think it would be worth it to make them game feel more alive and give players the ability to interact with one another more.

Personally I'm hoping for on-foot stuff to be added in with the launch of Season 3. Walking around inside the big plazas of stations or being able to get out and explore a planetary settlement would be very interesting. Also, being able to discover derelict outposts or capital ships and get out and explore them has been something I've always wanted to see in Elite since I picked up Dead Space again for the nostalgia a few months ago. I imagine FPS combat would be added in indirectly via the same way they did CQC. This would allow for match-based games to test out all the different combat systems, weapon types, and other mechanics Elite would have to have to support FPS combat in the main game.

If you have any other ideas or things you'd like to see, please share!

The feature i'd like to see the most is first person, it's 90% of what i want regarding Elite Dangerous.

Agreed. It would add another layer to the game and give it some much needed depth. Once we have the ability to seamlessly move from ship to SRV to foot a whole world of possibilities opens up.

Hehe, funny story about this song, was listening to Queen gretest hits on spotify while doing some trade runs, and this started playing right after I submitted to an NPC pirate ,and it messaged me "I want it all" :D

Anyway on topic, I voted atmo planets, because it seems like the next logical step. As long as I have no concrete idea what benefits we could get from space legs (aside from taking a stroll inside my ship), I think the ship part is what needs fleshing out first. Also mission sharing *puppy eyes*

do we really need another FPS?? go and play COD!!! ED must remain a space ship game, please.. add something else

It's not just FPS, it's ambulation. These ships are awesome, and I want to walk (float) around inside them. I want to run (float) down a corridor and perform a critical repair to my ship, while my friends fights the enemy. I want to stand (bounce) on the planets we land on, and walk around the outside of my ship.

And shooting people in the face, never hurt anyone either.

Well... technically the game already is an FPS in a way, just in spaceships. But yeah "walking around" isn't actually all that high on the list of what I'd like from Elite either.

Elite is a sci-fi spaceship pilot game first and foremost that focus on combat, trading, and exploration and specializes in galactic, stellar, and now world space simulation through procedural generation. So I would likewise prefer improvements and features that correspond with those aspects of the game.

This isn't Space Engineers after all. I already have that game, if I feel like playing it.

Edit: While I do think walking around on worlds and stations and going on EVAs would be cool too, I don't want to to change the gameplay style and focus of the game. I already don't care for how SRVs are refueled and "jumponium." They just seem like needless game mechanic contrivances to me.

It's not about having "another fps"

It's about the ability to do this: "You fly in from deep space and sell your scan data at a local station. Your friends you're talking to in discord are at that same station. You disembark from your ship and leave the hangar bay to go meet with them in the local bar and then one of your friends has the coordinates for a pirate base on an earth-like world in a nearby system. You all go out and get in to your combat ships and fly to that planet. As you enter the atmosphere you can see your shield glowing as it protects your hull from the heat of re-entry. You and your friends fly to the coordinates which puts the base in the shadow of a snowcapped mountain in a forest. The station has heavy anti-air defenses, so you all land in a nearby clearing and get in to your SRVs and get just out of range of the bases anti-vehicle defenses, and then get out on foot. By this time it's now raining pretty heavily. You and your friends get trudge through the rain and come right up under the bases defenses and take up a defensive position and open fire. You kill off all the guards and then head in to the base and shoot your way through to the vault. One of your friends took a lot of damage, so you use a medical device to heal him back up. You break in to the vault and find tons of credits and weapon upgrades, then you overload the bases power supply and your entire Wing now receives a decently sized bounty for taking out this base, which will be repaired and inhabited by the local authorities within a couple hours. You all then leave, get in to your SRVs and return to your ships, and then head back out in to space to return to the station where your friend picked up the mission to destroy that base so you can cash in."

I don't want "just another FPS", i want another layer to Elite. Once you add in the ability to hoof it places and have interiors for ships and stations and bases, you open up all kinds of different possibilities that only makes flying your ship around that much cooler.

Imagine being able to space walk out of a friends anaconda to an enemy ship and plant a bomb on their hull before jumping back?
Or shooting at a group of thargoids on a derelict mining outpost on the fringes of the bubble?
Or fending off borders on your own ship?

It's the ultimate game: Elite Dangerous crossed with Subnautica crossed with ark survival crossed with Rust...

Now that.. would beat SC.

Is that bad bad T-Rex causing you problems? No worries. Dumbfire missile it to hell and back with your Corvette. Over kill? I put it down to efficiency ;)

Accidentally crash your cutter on a water world?

Well:

Lets face it, most of the vessels in Subnautica look like Imperial design!!

In similar threads I mentioned that I would like to see first two options implemented by the end of Season 2/3, so I voted "Other" (a shame this wasn't a multiple choice poll). Fingers crossed for FPS and atmospheric landings! :)

I was going to do multiple choice but I decided that a "if you could only have one" poll would be more appropriate.

Walking on my ship.
Walking on planets.
Walking on stations.

Kind of a lot of walking.

Atmospheric flight.
Gas giant atmospheric flight.

Ships and stuff.

And finally more details to astronomic objects, like planetary nebula, accretion disks, Orth clouds or whatever name in different systems, gravitational distortions like the ones we do not have from black holes. Gravitational shearing on planets too close to stars, which are several, actual red giants stars that are not spherical as most red giants. Comets, large vagrant asteroids (missions with these would be great) and destroyed planets or in formation.

It is a lot, but is what I want to see in Elite.

"Rentamob" NPC wingmen to escort my unarmed Asp explorer home with the precious data. That's all. Just that.

I don't really have a problem with NPC wingmen being in the game as not everyone has people they want to and can wing up with. However, I recall hearing from a dev in one of the various videos not too long ago that this isn't likely to happen, and it seemed as though it isn't something they wanted in the game.

As for returning exploration data, just be smart about it and there is very little risk in getting it back. Besides, you can make ships that are quite capable explorers that are also quite capable at winning or avoiding combat fairly inexpensively. So, it's kind of on you for not playing the game accordingly. Just sayin'.
