Engineer Bases look awesome!

The engineer base was the best thing in that stream and there was lots of awesome news. It looks almost as good as the asteroid bases we're still waiting for. ;) I'm looking forward to my first visit to an engineer soon!

At around 1:03 there are some letters on the tower that might be a clue to the location in the game or indicate something else or random.

But I thought it was interesting. I can make out OVS pretty clearly, can't tell if it is a K at the end, OVSK.

Anyone else can see it more clearly?

I hope they adjust the timing for the landing audio so the "engaging ship restraints" just a second before the ship locks down, rather than after. Other than that, looks awesome.

For some reason I especially like the look of that small Sidewinder docked to one of the landing pads. It somehow very effectively conveys the look of a lonely adventurer coming to some secret base to me

Nailed it, just what I was thinking.

Flying into a canyon for an in game reason would be cool all on its own. But for a hand crafted terrain melding engineer base spanning the shadowy ravine? Priceless.

I really like what they're doing with the missions too. Perhaps they're not ideal yet, but I like the faction and character interaction and narrative that goes along with them and affects the BGS.

But yeah, the Engineer's station looks pretty sweet. And yeah, I liked the voice too. It's a nice contrast from some of the others in the game. :)

Haven't played in a while, waiting for 2.1 to drop.
I noticed two points of interest, apart from the base itself:

-That's a rather dramatic lens flare there, as the CMDR lands. I like it.

-The landing pad position/approach indicator seems different. Is this new or standard on iEagle (i think its an imp eagle, at least)?

The beauty of hand crafted assets.
I'd love to see more like this in game, not necessarily more Engineers bases, but other high value content later on.
Who wouldn't like a restaurant at the end of the universe?

Yep. And together with all other gfx updates this will be a fantastic immersion boost.
Plays bloody smooth too, that vid... is that the effect of gfx optimizations we're seeing there?

+1!

Love the variety, both in the visuals, the layout and the required approach. Plus, the nice thing about it is - since the bases are so obviously hand-crafted to the location; they can't copy 'n' paste this engineer base to other locations. Each one will have to be unique, surely.

I would like the CQC assets repurposed as low orbital bases, refineries etc. in the main game.

Because they are basically finished, you'd just have to give them a docking bay or some pads or some other purpose beyond looking rad.

I'd also love to see asteroid bases, of course. The concept art for those was what lured me back into Elite. Been waiting for them since Standard Beta.

I'd also love to see huge sprawling paraterraforming cities under dozens of greenhouse domes, surrounding a central starport.

Not to mention orbital shipyards (at least one for every manufacturer) and weapons factories where you can dock and get certain equipment for a factory discount. ;)
