[Humor] The Federal Corvette is 60x less dense than an equivalent amount of banana!

Hmm. I did some rough calculations on big real aircrafts and E: D ships, using empty weight in both cases.
Aircraft tend to end at about 20-30 kg/m³, E: D ships about 10-15 kg/m³ - looks plausible to me...

And bananas are notoriously dense and incapable of self-sustained flight.

The ships are fine. It's the banana that looks suspicious.

That tells you something right there, doesn't it? Approximately 900 million bananas in volume, but only ~15 million bananas in mass. The Federal Corvette is 60x less dense than an equivalent amount of bananas! [haha]

Just thought you guys might find that fun.

Imagine the radiation level from all those bananas: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banana_equivalent_dose

"A lethal dose of radiation is approximately 35,000,000 Banana Equivalent Doses (3500 mSv)"

And bananas are notoriously dense and incapable of self-sustained flight.

Don't tell the US Air Force that:

I am afraid the talk of substituting HRPs with bananas is a no go.
We already covered (in last week's lesson) disarming bananas. "Self-Defence Against Fresh Fruit".

Maybe we should consider using 16-ton weights instead?

Ahh, your probable mistake (without seeing the thread) was not putting :D[Humour] into the title. Hence rendering your thread as a dig at the game and instantly attracting criticism.

:D[Humour]
... phew, I think I got away with that
Yes, I will now end all my "your mum" threads with a smilie.
LOL. (Just kidding about your mum by the way. I've only ever met her once. ;-)

But seriously, criticism is instantly firebombed unless it is surrounded a foot deep in disclaimers. It's sometimes hard to hold a serious discussion.

Can't wait to mass lock other ships by large amounts of banana.

you will find that even with a T9 shaped bananas strewed randomly around your cockpit, you will still be outlocked by a single, Python shaped banana.

I hadn't thought about that!
I'll have to remember to get the lead-lined pilot's suit.

This may seem a stupid thing to say, but wouldn't the pilot's suit already be radiation resistant? It'd be a pretty lousy space suit otherwise...

Yes plx, FD make it happen!!!

Don't forget to make an additional Chiquita decal as well.

I'd rep you again if I could :D

I suppose it depends. It should be, to be honest. Although, if it's only meant as an emergency pressure suit in the event of a catastrophic loss of pressure accident, I could see them relying on the ship's radiation shielding and leaving the shielding out of the suit. It does look more wetsuit than spacesuit.

Given their relative densities, I'm eagerly anticipating an Engineer conversion to banana firing multi cannons... I pity the poor Anaconda on the receiving end... and I can already hear the howls of 'nerf the bananas'...

Space minions anyone?

It's possible. The suit is pretty slim but radiation resistance is more about density than physical size, maybe the suit has ultra-dense plates in it?

Then again, maybe banana radiation is different, and you'd need an extra layer of protection?

Meh, the powers that be are tricking you into thinking that radiation is dangerous.

Here is proof that it is not dangerous, but actually good for you.

Footnote: Does not protect against bananas though

Yes, I came to similar conclusions comparing the Anaconda's mass to a fully laden Hindenburg brings some surprising results.

The comparison the the Hindenburg got me thinking (dangerous!) that the density of ships has implications for the atmospheric landings update. The Corvette may well be neutrally buoyant in some planet's atmospheres! Won't that be weird.
