Suggestion - Should we nerf the FAS?

I would be totally in favor of a proper review of all ships so that they can have their stats adjusted.

Agreed - nerfing the FAS is completely missing the point - too many ships have no Unique Selling Point (USP), and the Keelback has abs no frikking point (imho).

It is not just the keelback. I would argue that the Viper 4, Cobra 4, Imperial Courier, Asp Scout, Type 7, and Orca all deserve a review.

Agreed and seconded, the Keelback is but one example - hence "too many ships have no Unique Selling Point (USP)".

a FAS alternative perhaps with better shielding and slightly less gun power from the alliance say a mark 2 defensive unit should be considered

You'd say the same about the Vulture if that was your highest acquisition. Next up - Gunship is ok but the internals don't do it justice for size. Let us not ask to nurf/buff anything due to bias.

Why not just use a clipper? You can load up on SCBs and will have decent shields, with potentially less firepower, than a FAS.

Gunship and Dropship hull mass should be lowered to 500-540 Tons (currently 580 Tons). That will allow them to equip Class 6 shields without taking a penalty and make them slightly less of a pig in terms of pitch rate.

I agree with you there, many ships deserve tweaks and buffs to make them unique alternatives however i would still argue the FAS and to some extent FDL need to be less good. If we just buff everything we'll end up playing turrets in space. Realistic maybe but probably quite dull.

So if your kitchen is clean and the rest of the house is dirty, instead of cleaning the rest of the house to make each room more enjoyable and the house as a whole a better place to live you just crap in the kitchen so it's filthy too? Makes sense....

Hey i can actually use/answer this awful analogy now. I think FD should clean the rest of the house, its just the federal assault kitchen creates unrealistic expectations of cleanliness.

Eh? Whats wrong with the Courier?! I have one of those and love it to pieces. Its a brilliant fighter, and astoundingly tough for a small ship.

Orca will (FINALLY) have its niche when passenger transportation becomes a thing, Type 7.... IMHO the cost should be lowered somewhat... 17 million seems a little bit steep... Asp Scout is just a budget Asp Ex, and the Viper and Cobra 4 trade agility for a bit more toughness - alternate versions really.

Keelback is completely without point though. Gash in a fight and doesnt really carry enough cargo to make commodity trading worthwhile, and you can pick up a Cobra to go rare trading for a 10th of the cost...

Tl;dr I think the Type 7 is too costly and the Keelback is useless. The rest have (or will have) their niches.

I think we should nerf everything.
Nerf fuel scoops
Nerf stations
Nerf the landing gear
Nerf the forums
Nerf Marvel movies

No. And I say this as someone who doesn't fly a FAS.

Leave it alone - at the moment a well flown FAS is an absolute beast and one of the only opponents I have real difficulty dealing with in my FDL.

And that is a GOOD thing! If I see a hollow icon flying a FAS I have to have a really good think about whether I engage it or not.

I'm sure it's been said before, but...why nerf when you can buff? :x

A lot of ED's ships need a vigorous overhaul, but a few are actually very good - the FAS is one of the good ones. Instead of reducing the effectiveness (and fun) of good ships, bring all the mediocre ones up to their levels of shininess. That way we all get a delicious buffet of interesting, effective ships to pick and choose from, rather than a bland spread of sadness and shortcomings.

I just made myself hungry. >_>
